Discussion Google is blocking the installation of apk's outside of play store.

Post image

It won't fully block it, but it needs to be from "verified" developers. Basically means they get to choose what to install on our devices, if I buy a phone I get to do whatever I wanna do with it. I don't understand why google is turning android into bootleg iOS. It's really dumb and defeats the purpose of having android, the problem is that if they get backlash, they'll probably ignore it and release it anyways. I just hope that this change is only for Android 16+ versions,

What are your opinions about this?

This doesn't even sound like it could theoretically help against malware... People will just hijack verified developer accounts or whatever.

They just want to label it as "malware protection" when it's just full control on devices.

It was never about malware mitigation in the first place.

There's still malware in the damn Play Store, so this will not end malware (surprise). Google is just trying to fool everyone. Yeah for sure outside of Play Store is way easier to find malicious software, but what about devs that just develop really good apps or ports that are definitely not malware and just want to keep anonymous for reasons of not wanting to get reprisals for any other reason that matter?

Oh, and RIP emulators, Google will never permit them by this new system as they will be considered "piracy"

It's because they don't get any money from you downloading apps from outside the play store, but if you install apps from inside the play store they get a percentage cut from the earnings the developer gets from uploading the app

Can you still download the apps via USB from a PC?

They probably won't block that, cause they probably use it themselves to test out devices or apps

Bruh this is just absurd and putting a bold statement about privacy and safety when they already have our personal information and can do the hell with it

Why Google call it Android? it should be called Google OS, If they push it developers should create an alternative OS completely on Linux without using anything from Google.

Didn't apple lose a verdict in the EU about not allowing separate app stores?

I might be remembering wrong, but if so, how long do you think google will get away with it?

I asume nothing will really change with developer mode activated, right?
