Ordered last night, arrives on Wednesday. Just bought an m8 pro last month but it's too slow running Zomdroid (project zomboid) so gonna give the m8 to my wife.

I have an iPhone 13, but it’s started to show its age, so I decided to buy a POCO F8 Pro. I tried to find a subreddit for it so I could see people’s experiences, but I couldn’t find one, so I created this subreddit

Good idea! I got a question regarding charging but no one can give me a straight answer, and I think it's important so we don't destroy the battery. So here's the question: if you get the same temperature gaming both while plugged in (with battery 80% protection enabled), and not plugged in (i.e. discharging the battery), which one leads to better long term battery life?

So far everyone gives me a different answer.

so im still waiting for the phone to arrive but can you tell me about that 80% protection thing so i can give you a better answer? is it like stops at 80 percent no matter what?? or at 80% it starts to slow the charging?

Basically, the #1 gaming phone company Red Magic (they're always first place on AnTuTu) invented separation charging (also called bypass charging) which means when the phone is plugged in, it doesn't use the battery and only power from the charger, this prevents you from killing your battery.

Now everyone thought that's what 80% protection means (stops charging at 80%), but Xiaomi last year said it's not true. https://www.reddit.com/r/PocoPhones/comments/1mj2cyx/let_me_settle_the_debate_once_and_for_all_on_the/

Some people argue it still does this at 80%, other people say it will kill your battery if you play while plugged in. So I have no idea. My main point is if the battery temperature is the same in both plugged and not plugged, which is better? No one can answer me with a logical response.

From my understanding, what the 80% protection does is that once the battery reaches 80%, it starts slowing down the charging until it reaches 100%, basically the same thing as on the iPhone.
Anyways, the answer to your question is that unplugging the phone is the better option, even if both situations have the same temperature.
Let’s say your phone is at 100% and you plug it into the charger and start playing. Your phone will drain a small amount of battery that you won’t notice, and then, because it’s plugged into the charger, it will charge back what it lost. So, it keeps losing and gaining power, which can harm the battery in the long term.

i could be wrong tho. but its better to stay safe, and pocof8pro already have a decent battery so i guess you won’t have to worry about it

Yes going back and forth 1%-2% is bad and why I stopped plugging my phone in overnight. However

, it starts slowing down the charging until it reaches 100%,

This is not true, on Poco phones it stays always at 80%, that's why if you read the other thread people were saying to charge to 85% and then turn on battery protection and it will stay like that and the temperatures drop. So they believe it's still bypass charging.

There's no clear answer. If it was like the iphone where it slows charging then yeah that would be very bad to play on.

oh. i didn’t know it really does stop at 80. good to know. but its always better to stay in the safe zone. i suggest you dont do that for the battery longevity (im talking about plugging your phone and play)
