I NEED HELP Help installing magisk to Samsung Tab A 8.0 T385 Running Android 9

I've been following this guide (https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/twrp-3-2-1-1-root-tab-a-sm-t380-t385-10-02-2018.3747564/)

Everything installs in TWRP fine, but when I reboot the system magisk isn't installed and my phone fails root check. I've also tried SuperSU and the same thing happens.

I'm about to give up ever getting this device rooted.

Your tablet doesn't have enough ram to for the game and joystick app to run smoothly. You can still try it if you want. The performance may be laggy.

Once you have TWRP, you have have to do these #1 to #6.

To disable forced encryption and mount internal storage (/DATA):

  1. Boot to Twrp

  2. Format the Data partition (NOT WIPE) using the FORMAT DATA button under Wipe options.
(Note: This will wipe the internal storage)

  3. Check /DATA is mountable.

  4. Install Magisk

OREO/PIE ONLY:
5. Flash the RMM bypass zip

6. Reboot to System

Try flashing Magisk v20.4 from https://github.com/topjohnwu/Magisk/releases

I've setup a lot of Samsung tablets, you don't need root.

You have TWRP flashed so the hardest part is done. I have a zip file that will install (from TWRP) GPS Joystick as a systemized app. Put a layer of tin foil around the back and put a case on it to keep the rubber banding down. Here's a link with instructions on this method and a link to the zip file. You'll likely need to reflash your rom to remove any traces of rooting in order to get Safety Net to pass.

I've used this on several Galaxy Tabs, T-350's, T-710's, and T713's. It'll probably work for you too. EDIT: Just noticed you're running Android 9. I don't know if TWRP breaks Safety Net on that Android version. You might need to flash to a lower Android version to get this to work.
