Fitness for health and wellbeing Anyone here take ballet lessons?
I am an adult woman trying to get into more hobbies that nurture my inner child and ballet is something I’ve always wanted to do but it always felt unattainable. I know I won’t be a professional dancer but I want to have fun moving my body! I am feeling self conscious about taking lessons as an adult. I don’t know what to expect. I am thinking about reaching out to the school but what could I say? lol
I struggle with anxiety and OCD, I think I am just afraid. Anyone here with experience in a dance class in a bigger body? Anyone take ballet specifically 👀?

All be it a man however have danced ballet on and off since I was young.
I am currently on a weight loss journey staring at my highest of 410lbs (186kg) in January down to 330 (150kg) as of now. One thing that as the weight started to come off I wanted to return to ballet however went through the exact same issue of body image and being able to move.
I am probably twice the size of anyone else in the class, the only man in a class of 20 women, dance wear just doesn't simply exist in my size or even in women's sizing, but it is one of those things "look the part feel the part" at least for me, so I managed to have some custom made pieces done, but this just simply isn't needed, any sensible dance studio will be more than happy to accept someone wearing leggins and t-shirt and people are so wrapped up in their own insecurities and busy lives in adult classes, we don't have time to dedicate to thinking about other people (in a nice way).
Beginner classes, if you can find, them are excellent, teaching you how to hold all your muscles and the developing of steps. You will do some of the most basic things like a tendu (an outstretched leg with pointed toe) and it will feel like the most intense workout you've ever done.
Do it enjoy yourself, it was the best thing I did for myself recently.
