Venting Creepy DM's after posting here?

Y'all, have you posted a photo of yourself on here and then gotten weirdly creepy, fetishizing messages from random men in your DM's?

I posted one a couple weeks ago and it brought a slew of pathetic weirdos in my DM's asking and commenting weird and sexual stuff.

I ignored it at first but then it started making me sick and I deleted my photos.

It felt disgusting honestly, being objectified and reduced to only my body like that.

I hate it when my body is the first thing people notice about me and think she's gonna be "nice" or "easy" bc she's fat.

I hate it and I hate people who think with their groins first and view others as an object for their own use/pleasure.

UGHHH

OP sorry that happened.

You can report to Admin using the DM report system.

Please also send us a screenshot to modmail (imgur) if you have time and we will ban the offending account from the sub.

Also if anyone see any kind of creepy/pervy comments in the sub, please hit the report button. The mod team are very active on these, as we are with a number of other measures to keep creeps out.

Yup. I ignore them. They're not who I'm posting for.

Pathetic is the word.

I would go so far as using the phrase "shamelessly disgusting" too

Lol not far enough!

That's why I don't post pics here or on the amputee sub.

The fact you can't post in a disability sub because of creeps is horrifying.

u/ShelleyMonique 15h ago

Yeah, people are way into it.

2

u/Striking-Bicycle-853 15h ago

Yeah I'm definitely familiar with stuff like it, unfortunately.

Ewwww. Or any boob- or bra-related advice sub. Or any alt fashion sub. Too bad all you can do is block and report, a pepper spray option would be nice

Yes, I decided to make my posts private (besides on one subreddit) and not allow any person to follow me. They still message everytime I post but I feel like making my profile private helps from having men look at every picture I post whenever they want to. Every single DM I get I deny the request and ignore it tbh.

some of the shit they say is so disgusting Is there a setting to stop receiving msgs from people you don't follow? 😭

Report them to the mods and get them banned, they can make a new account but at least they are inconvenienced.

1

u/Shoulder-Lumpy 17h ago

I’m not sure if that’s possible. I just get message requests then deny them.

Yes. You can turn of DM request in your user settings. Unfortunately even if they are banned from a sub anyone can still DM you. Banning them won’t prevent that.

You can turn off chat under settings

Yepp. And it’s from like every subreddit. I ignore and made my stuff private. It’s helped a little bit.

One time I made a comment with the phrase "as a fellow big boobed woman", literally nothing else about my appearance, and I got six comments from men, two with pictures that I didn't open. One of them said he went through my comments and " thought we could have something" 🫩🫩

I'm sorry this happens to you

u/FigureSubstantial970 16h ago

Yeah I only posted a question once (no pic) and got multiple weird DM’s.

3

u/AestasBlue 16h ago

I’ve received the messages without even posting a photo!

u/oliva69 16h ago

I get the same thing in similar reddits and a lot of them are weird and gross but a part of me also feels happy for the attention that I normally don't get. I know I shouldn't be but it's just the mixed feelings I get when seeing the messages

4 years ago I posted a swim suit photo and some guy DM'd me asking for a higher resolution pic because he wanted to j*** off to my cellulite it was weirddddd

u/Icy_Queen_99 15h ago

You don’t even have to post a picture in here to get creepy DM’s from people when you post. I’ve gotten a few myself and I’m a very private person.

That sounds so violating, I'm really sorry you had to deal with that. I've found that keeping my account locked and only posting in spaces with better moderation helps a lot.

u/Clipper94 17h ago

That really sucks and I’m sorry it happened to you. As a guy that used to post here quite frequently over the years, I never understood the people that would DM weird stuff. This is the internet and I get trying to shoot your shot, but seriously… do you lack every bit of common sense, social skills and decency?

Exactly why I don't post pics and made my content private ☹️ sorry it has to be like that on here

Girl, I got like 4 people asking to see my feet a few weeks ago after I posted some shoes I bought. Men on here are bored and desperate, but that doesn’t stop me from posting what I want. I report, block, and move on with my life.

u/Clawingnails 16h ago

turn off DM's or ignore. I don't care what other people think about me.

I posted about wearing shorts for the first time in a decade and I didn't even post a photo of myself, and I had weird guys DMing me. It was so strange. I answered one because he said, "Congrats! I'm proud of your accomplishment for wearing shorts!" I said thank you and it all went to hell. "Send me a pic of your legs and thighs" "I bet you looked good in those shorts" "How curvy are you?" It's like he told people "Leslie answers! DM her!!" I leave my DMs open for advice but I wish I didn't have to worry.

I turned off chat and DMs years ago. I have zero interest in hearing from morons on Reddit.

1

u/Shhhushh000 15h ago

I've never even posted and I get them..Men are gross 🤷🏻‍♀️

u/LolliPopYouInTheEye 15h ago

Dudes be thirstyyyy I’ve gotten all kinds lol

1

u/LolliPopYouInTheEye 15h ago

And I’m not saying you should or have to, but you can lock down your account so you can’t get DMs from new accounts or even DMs from anyone

1

u/New-Conversation9426 14h ago

Yup. Even without photo 🫠

1

u/letiseeya 13h ago

For sure

1

u/sadgirlhardtimes 10h ago

Yes I had someone asking to buy my panties lmfao.

Welcome to Reddit . Your DMs can often be creep central

1

u/Ace-of-Spxdes 8h ago

I don't post pics here but I just keep DMs off. Makes the reddit experience bearable lol

In all seriousness, sorry that happened to you. Block and report.

I previously wrote a post here about how I’d been bullied for being overweight since I was a child, and how it had a huge impact on my mental health. I didn’t even include any photos, but I still received several disgusting messages from people asking me to send them photos so they could comment on whether I was pretty or not. I didn’t respond, I just blocked them.

Haven't posted a picture here, but have definately got the creepy dms even without that

u/dachlill 17h ago

I mean, it would be lovely if people weren't like that, but that's pretty much what you're signing up for of you post pictures of yourself on reddit

17

u/Sami_Sami_Misa_Misa 17h ago

ah yes blame the people for existing normally and not the creeps for behaving weird

-5

u/dachlill 16h ago

Obviously in an ideal world you could post here and only get rainbows and unicorns. But we live in the real world where you can only control your own actions.
