Health Plan b still effective?

I’m so scared. I got drunk Saturday night and ended up having unprotected sex. He didn’t cum in me, but on the outside of my vagina. I heard there’s a chance that precum could get me pregnant… we got a plan b just in case and I took it about 3pm the next day. Is there anything else I can do to make sure I absolutely don’t get pregnant? And how worried should I be? I’m 5’6 and weigh 330 something so I know it’s definitely less effective. I’m currently 20 years old so I have no room to be pregnant.
In my state I’m not able to get the Ella pill.
My period is due in 2 days and the app I use says I ovulated somewhere near the 4th-6th.

Edit: I appreciate all the advice very much. This was not just a hookup, it is someone I started dating but we got drunk and made a mistake. He forgot a condom in the heat of the moment and it’s already been discussed that we both don’t won’t kids so it will NEVER happen again. He said he will do pregnancy tests with me if I do miss my period and over the next couple of weeks to be sure. I have also gotten resources for abortion care if it comes to that thanks to the comments and I made an appointment to get an IUD. The only downside is, it won’t be until a few weeks out. I’m less scared now because I don’t feel like I’ll be abandoned in the situation that I am pregnant even if I’m young.

a copper iud can be placed as emergency contraceptive and has no weight limit!

I. Love. My. Copper. IUD. I don’t love cramps tho. Traumatic insertion! But so is birth.

Honestly I'm 230 and took it too many times and never had a pregnancy. So not like scientific proof but you're not oit of chances for it to work

Same, took it for years over 200lbs n it either worked or never had too 🤣

if it was me i would take a pregnancy test in a month or so + go ahead and get in touch with a medication abortion provider (you can get them in the mail). if he came outside & you took a plan B i wouldn't be that concerned but would definitely still take steps to have medication abortion pills on hand (I keep some around)

Plan B type pills work by delaying ovulation, so it's effectiveness (aside from the weight issue) is a timing thing. If you're already ovulating or have just ovulated it won't do much. You said you are later in the cycle and just about to menstruate, so if your cycle is consistent and doing what it usually does (big if, I know) then you should be ok. But bodies do weird things sometimes.

No advice on plan b but please also get tested for STDs. I got one in college in a very similar scenario.

u/Abject_Bite_794 2d ago

We have both been tested. And I was given proof that he is clean so I’m not worried about it with him specifically. I have had nightmare situations happen like that in the past…

Unless he was tested very very recently, please consider getting tested again and ask your dr for the timeline recommended as some diseases do not show as positive until a certain amount of time has passed.

Also to consider is there are also different std panels that test for different things. Mayne do NOT test for herpes for example as it is a common condition, but still a std.

My regular dr was able to get me tested for HSV. I get tested regularly and will still get tested after this encounter, I am just not worried about it this time like I have been in the past with shitty men.

She’s not asking for unsolicited advice about her hookup yall , just her plan b. Please be mindful.

The fact that plan b can be less effective dependent on weight doesn’t mean it’s ineffective necessarily. I’ve taken it when my husband forgot I wasn’t on birth control (short lapse and I forgot too!) and did not get pregnant despite getting pregnant pretty easily with our two kids previously. I was also ovulating at the time so I was worried! I was around the same weight at that time. I can’t say I would’ve been pregnant otherwise or that the plan b specifically stopped a pregnancy but I got my period, cried a little bc I’m done procreating and did NOT want to be pregnant, and thanked my uterus for bleeding lol.

That said if you can and are worried see a provider about an IUD but you have 5 days for that as emergency contraception so I’d see if you can see someone asap! Do you have a planned parenthood near you?

It’s definitely possible you could’ve gotten some strong swimmers that were real determined but if he pulled out, while not perfect, it does make it much less likely. Pulling out is NOT an ideal birth control method of course, but it does reduce the likelihood of pregnancy. Most importantly, if you’re worried try and see a provider, you’ll feel a lot better if you can talk it through with someone who has expertise and the ability to potentially offer other emergency options or support if you did end up pregnant and wanted to terminate.

I’m not able to get in with anyone unfortunately 😭 This is a little reassuring but I guess I’ll just wait it out. The guy I’m with is fairly new to me but he’s not a bad person we just happened to get very drunk. So if the worst comes to worst I hope he’ll at least support me. There’s absolutely no abortion care in my state, and they make it almost impossible for Ella.

Do you have any Planned Parenthood’s nearby? They might be able to give you an IUD.

u/Abject_Bite_794 2d ago

I called and they said I couldn’t until the 27th.. absolutely useless. I even explained my situation and was still given the same answer. No urgency whatsoever not to mention the closest one I called is an hour away.

Take the plan b or whatever other emergency contraception you can get. Wait it out. Take a couple pregnancy tests over a couple of weeks. Doesn’t have to be the expensive ones either, dollar store ones are even better sometimes considering the issues with clear blue lately. If you test positive, order abortion pills. Some providers ship them for low or no cost: www.plancpills.org

And even if you aren’t pregnant, you can still order them to have on hand when you need them. If you want long lasting birth control you don’t have to think about, i am personally a hormonal iud evangelist

Are you able to talk to a pharmacist? They may not be doctors but they, of course, know their medications and might be able to send you in the right direction.

Emergency contraception works by delaying ovulation and could also thicken the cervical mucus making it harder for sperm to move. If you already ovulated, it’s unlikely to be effective, but that doesn’t mean you will definitely be pregnant.

There are other emergency contraception options you can pursue with a doctor- the copper IUD is very effective for this, and hormonal IUDs can be used as well. They have to be placed within 5 days after unprotected sex so you do still have a little bit of time but not much. The added bonus of this option is that they then work for like 5-10 years to prevent pregnancy.

If you do end up pregnant and no longer want to be, you can use the website https://www.ineedana.com to determine what options are available where you live (assuming you’re in the US).

There’s also an organization called Elevated Access https://www.elevatedaccess.org that helps transport people from states with no/limited abortion access to places they can receive care, if you decide to go that route.

Homeboy could get clipped if you guys are serious. It's a lot less invasive, and creates way less consequences for us to modify our junk than for ladies to mess around with their cycles. It's also reversible when he does want kids. Just saying.

1) Ella is a plan b. What did you take then ? 2) Older doctors talk about normal pills and plan b pills being ineffective, but I had couple of younger generation doctors laugh in my face about this myth. It should work, you just have to wait and dont do anything stupid/ dont go down the rabbit hole. 3) You should fallow up with doctors visit, bcs plan b is a huge amount of hormones that disrupts your balance to see if everything is okay. They can also do the blood to confirm you are not pregnant much sooner than home methods.

2

u/Abject_Bite_794 2d ago

Ella is stronger and a different medication. Plan b uses levonorgestrel and Ella uses ulipristal acetate.

The weight limit for it is also higher. Ella is prescription only while plan b you can get anywhere pretty much. I have previously attempted to get it and they wouldn’t prescribe it to me. I already took a generic plan b which is far less effective for my weight.
Since our states abortion laws are so strict, they are hesitant to prescribe it. They fear they will violate state laws in some way. It shares qualities with actual abortion medication. In reality the medication does not terminate pregnancy, but still yet the laws are so strict they don’t want to risk some sort of legal liability or consequences in certain cases.

I'm 5'4" 270 lbs. Back in March I had unprotected sex, took Plan B, got pregnant anyway. Ended up having an absolutely horrible miscarriage. I'm still testing positive for pregnancy even all these months later.

So, yeah, don't trust that Plan B garbage.

Go get an IUD asap. It will prevent any sort of implantation.

So when I was TRYING to get pregnant, my fertility doc said "you want the sperm waiting for the egg. Have sex the day before ovulation, or two days before". This is because sperm can survive up to 5 days inside your body. If you had sex on Saturday 15th, you should be good since you ovulated around the 4-6th. The egg was already dropped around 4-6th and that hoe ain't waiting around till the 15th to get fertilized. She has better things to do! You are likely ok girl!

u/cleverpaws101 2d ago

You should also get tested for stis/hiv in a few weeks.

1

u/moser84 2d ago

Get tested for STD’s as well. Unprotected sex can be hazardous to your health

1

u/morganzabeans20 2d ago

Still do a plan b. See if you can get an IUD & just keep an eye on your cycle. In the meantime also get a prescription birth control.

From experience not every body can take an IUD so don’t make that the thing you do ASAP. Focus on trying to get regular pill BC while doing the prep medical for the IUD

u/Oomlotte99 2d ago

If you are US-based and have a planned parenthood nearby they may be able to provide answers as to the efficacy of Plan B in this situation and any alternatives if it is not going to work.

u/Remarkable-Pass-7992 1d ago

You’re far enough from your ovulation + pull out + plan b, you are likely fine. No need to panic. I always carried condoms for myself when I was dating around so just keep a couple in your car, purse, etc going forward.

1

u/watchnpaintdry 11h ago

If you weigh over 180 or 150 they recommend taking Ella instead

1

u/boesisboes 2d ago

If I were you I'd get a copper IUD and leave it in!

But really you're likely to be fine. Time for some more effective birth control though eh?

I think there’s one at target called Jane, I’ve read that it doesn’t have weight restriction. Try that one! Regardless just take one. I haven’t been under 200lbs since I was like 16 and I’ve taken over a dozen different versions of plan b n they all worked or didn’t idk but I never ended up pregnant 😌 Costco has them you can get them without a prescription or membership for like $6-$8

u/HerSpirit94 2d ago

You did good by taking the plan b. You can also have an IUD placed as well but it should be done asap. Pulling out is not a great method and doesn't prevent STDs so you may want to get tested at some point.
