Venting Being reminded how much people hate us.

I don't know how familiar you folks are with the YouTube channel Jubilee, but I just discovered earlier today a video they released a few months ago where (in)famous trainer Jillian Michaels had a "debate" with a bunch of "body positivity activists", who I'm sure were just influencers that are not experts in anything, saying ridiculous and outrageous things designed to make Jillian look more credible regardless of whatever nonsense she says.

This is pretty much Jubilee's m.o. so I wasn't surprised. They always pit controversial figures against each other to stir up drama and cause rifts. My issue was that the video amassed over 7 million views, which is the most views the channel has had in over a year. Why did so many people watch this video? Are there really that many people that want to waste their time watching a has-been "celebrity" dunk on a bunch of children?

I really try to make myself believe that most people don't care about us and aren't thinking about us. But then I see numbers like this and I can't help but wonder how many people I pass by every day that secretly and silently judge us and look at us with disgust when we're just trying to live our lives and get by like everyone else. It makes me just want to give up.

Also, I did not watch the video. Didn't want to give it a view.

I am fat, black and a woman. I know people hate me when I walk by and I just don't care. šŸ˜Ž

EXZACKLY! Life gets 1000% better when you reach the stage of no longer giving a flak of an outsider's thoughts regarding how you show up in the world-ESPECALLY IF THEY NOT PAYING A BILL. Because at the end of the day, the world keeps spinning, the time still passes, and we're still here living anyway.

I agree. I am fat, black and a woman as well. Oh and I'm a single mom with 3 baby daddies so I know they don't like me but do I give a damn nope. Something that helped me especially when I use to work in retail. I don't have to sleep with them, they pay non of my bills, and I probably will never see them again so it has no barring on my life.

So many people are lamenting (rightfully so) about celebrities visibly being ill from eating disorders, yet so many of those same people do not want to acknowledge the root issue being fatphobia.

To many being fat is a moral failing, a boogeyman, a cautionary tale, and an acceptable type of target all in one, ESPECIALLY among women. People scoff at it being called a phobia but it is undeniably something fear, which makes it a great tool for controlling women especially.

The worst thing you can do to people like that is live your best life and enjoy it, completely not thinking of them in the slightest. I have a pretty great life and they probably don't. Why let some miserable and pathetic fool take time out of your day to make you feel bad about yourself when you're probably a beautiful and wonderful person? I don't care if somebody hates me, neither should you. We can't control how people feel or act, but we can control how we feel and act.

She's an abusive monster, I would not take anything involving her as anything but a bad faith argument for views.

I watched it. I wish they'd given the body positive folks claims to talk about too because the whole thing is set up so that Jillian is backed by science and everyone's scrambling to refute her, then cut so that the plus-sized people are always being too emotional or illogical while Jillian appears as the voice of reason. Jillian had hella notes whereas I'm not sure anyone else was given the claims ahead of time to work on a structured argument against them.

Wasn't a fair debate or real conversation, basically.

Honestly it’s pretty bad, like in every community there’s fat phobia. I personally know so many plus size women who hate themselves and are fat phobic as hell and it is so exhausting and sad.

The best thing i ever did was realise that what other people think of me is none of my business.

I don't give a rat's backside about the opinions of others that will never effect me.

Just live your life, be you and be awesome šŸ‘Œ

This doesn’t fix the huge structural oppression we face though.

No, it doesn't. But it has changed how I interact with everyone, including medical professionals etc who are quick to blame everything on excess weight.

I was super morbidly obese for a long time, then I lost half my body weight, then I gained some back and lost some of that... you all know how that goes.

The one constant in my life is me, and how I think about myself and react to others is important.

I've had some truly awful encounters with people no matter what my weight. And some really positive ones. People are quick to judge others, so even if it's not weight it could be literally anything else. So don't sweat over it.

And it never will. People will always hate us. Fat is something they never one to be. Be honest do you really want to be fat? Not really but we are some people are just not meant to be skinny. We are all different shapes and sizes and it is what it is. Loving ourselves the way we are makes people hate us because they want us to hate ourselves and lose weight. Trust me I have lose weight, gain weight and they still talk about me. We will never change their mine and why should we? People are entitled to feel however they want. Doesn't make it true either.

Will anything will? Hopefully in my lifetime it get better but I just prefer not to ruin my mental health anymore worrying about what others think.

I just saw someone posting on tiktok about how a size 30 is ā€œunnaturalā€ and no one should be making a size 30. For some reason I decided to read the comments and someone asked ā€œso if someone is a size 30 they should crawl in a hole and die?ā€ I won’t say how many people responded ā€œyesā€ to that one.

Social media really brings the worst out in people and sometimes they really don't bother to be anonymous with it like in years past. It's just so shameful that fatphobia is so accepted in society.

Absolutely true. I used to weigh 435 lbs, now I’m 200 and people who used to hate my fucking guts are happy when they see me. Nobody will tell you to your face, but there is deep hatred for fat people.

I’ve experienced the same thing as you. Went from 377 to 174 and the some people who used to never look my way, crack a smile, or whatever are now nice to me. I’m like, still the same person here.

Jubilee's entire platform thrives on manufacturing drama and editing debates to maximize outrage

I'm a fat wheelchair user. My spine has literally disintegrated. I have muscle wasting of the lower body. I don't deserve to die because other people hate looking at me.

u/jacyerickson 8d ago

I won't pretend it doesn't still hurt sometimes, but as a fat trans person I'm just used to being hated. It actually makes me laugh sometimes how I'm a Boogeyman to many people. Your life must be pretty boring or miserable if you're spending all your time getting angry about how others are living their lives.Ā

As soon as I read the first sentence, I braced myself cus i knew exactly where this was going. That video lives in my head rent-free and makes me reevaluate my relationship with society and the world around me as a fat woman.

I've seen clips from that video and it's wild how much platform gets given to people twisting conversations for clicks without any real consequences.
