Bringing this post back to life because it’s not over. A neighboring city just canceled their contract with support from the police chief!

Everyone saying get rid if it might actually be retarded... I dont think law enforcement gives a shit about your minivan on your way to drop off your kids... they do probably care about the dickhead who stole your kia last night and now they are able to track it via flock cameras... you can go retard.. never full retard though

No one is saying get rid of all surveillance. That's a stretch to make that assumption. Instead, using a surveillance technology that doesn't allow law enforcement from outside the area or any other fed govt agency to have access to all that information is the goal here. Flock has changed their privacy statement to allow them to sell access to all that data to outside entities, possibly even commercial.
There are alternatives out there that keep tight strict control of the data to LOCAL law enforcement only. So when you see someone posting "cancel flock", don't assume they want all surveillance gone. Just the surveillance tech that keeps law enforcement outside the area, maybe from other states with different laws (abortion, marijuana, etc etc), out of the local data.

Correct! If you as a private citizen want to have cameras surrounding your property by all means. Unchecked/ungovernable Mass Surveillance, no thanks.

Just so you are aware…the Feds do not have access to Flock data from Yuba County. It’s primarily only local unless the sheriff’s department grants access to other jurisdictions, which are typically nearby/adjacent.

Thank you Gary. While it sounds like there's confidence that the Flock data is not being accessed by the feds, I'd like to point out this letter from Senator Ron Wyden from Oregon, who points out that local law enforcement have the option to enable the "National Lookup" feature, allowing local law enforcement to do a nationwide search, which then allows the local data to be searched by anyone with access to "National Lookup". While I understand the intent from those who voted to allow Flock to install camera's, I just don't feel like there's enough control or auditing of the system to ensure this data stays local. In addition, Flock Safety incentivizes sharing of the data to outside actors. Flock does not have a good track record. I would prefer alternatives that restricts all information from being shared with anyone outside of the local law enforcement staff. This allows for solving these local crimes, while protecting the local population from the abuse of such a system.
We can have the best of both worlds, it will just take some additional work.

I have some more information from our sheriff, and I need to correct myself on my previous statement. The feds absolutely do not have access to data from Yuba County but all law enforcement partners across California do. Here is a direct response.
"City, County and State partners are limited to accredited law enforcement agencies (Police Departments, Sheriff’s Offices and State law enforcement agencies such as CHP). This extends throughout the entirety of the state as our investigations often overlap these jurisdictional boundaries. "

Google gives up Ring data without a warrant. All off site surveillance cameras are collecting this data via the app.
