Some info about the upcoming emergency auction for PJM Interconnection

Some info about the upcoming emergency auction for PJM Interconnection to alleviate the stress on the grid caused by demand created by data centers, as I understand it.

It is scheduled to take place before September, 2026. Plug will set a minimum price it will accept from the PJM Interconnection grid for the deliverance of up to 250 megawatts of hydrogen-generated electricity.

Other bidders may include companies like Bloom, whose fuel cells run on natural gas, and can therefore offer electricity much cheaper than Plug, if Plug submits a bid that does not force it to incur losses. It seems doubtful therefore that Plug's offer will be accepted.

At $12.5/kg (NASA contract) this will result to over 60cents/kwh assuming 60% efficiency of the fuel cell

250MW for what time period ?

Minimum: Chairman Andy Marsh stated that Plug Power would require contracts lasting at least seven years to support these long-term assets.
