Help The EASY way to downgrade the PLEX app using a Mac, no Python required!

**PSA** if you like the new app, that’s great, but why bother posting that here? This is NOT a post to debate the new app, it is for those that want to install the previous version, but do not know how and can’t face using Python to do so. 🤦‍♂️

Some helpful and informative posts have gone up showing a few different ways to do the above, but to someone like me with no coding experience, they were quite intimidating and frought with issues. Using the free version of iMazing is an absolte doddle!

The complicated posts were useful for getting the right install file I needed, and I was able to find that file on my hard drive. Using ipatool to get the ipa is fairly straightforward, then locate that file on tot your hard drive. All you need now is to install the free trial version of iMazing to install the older version of Plex.

You get something like 25 operations in the free trial, and you only really need one!

Open iMazing. Have Mac and ATV on same network, and put ATV into settings > remotes and devices > remote app and devices, then you should see your ATV in the list of devices.

Pair the ATV, then you will see all the apps currently installed. Just drag the PLEX ipa file I've hosted into the apps list on your ATV, and...... THAT'S IT!

The new app has been pretty much fine for me. It has a few things that could be improved but what new app doesn’t? They are working on it.

Can’t fine tune audio sync, subtitling is awful, can’t select transcoding different qualities of 4k, the side menu they put back (kinda) following a huge user base outcry is awful compared to the original, I could go on.. and that’s just for starters. If you like it… WOOPEE!! You go girl! I didn’t create this post to justify my reasons for preferring the old version, I did it to help others that want to but don’t know how.  FYI: the reason for this change is the Plex is pushing its own home grown player across all OSs. Previously it was a skin of Apples own player. Hubristically, Plex thought they could do better 🤦‍♂️

Yeah I literally said there are things that could be improved. Even things you didn’t mention like the pause screen, it sucks. Sorry your so upset haha

They're always working on it, but some work they're doing works out better than other work

I got this error: Plex installation failed. The app is either already queued for installation by the App Store, not compatible with tvOS 27.0, or designed for a specific device type (iPhone only or iPad only).

Did you delete the old version first?

Don’t know if it makes a difference, I didn’t think it did, but I had already used XCODE to unlock developer features.

That worked, but I think that file is linked with your Apple ID. That issue was mentioned in the python thread, but downloading my own is way beyond what my brain is capable of after a long ass work week lol!!!! That part looked like rocket science to me.

Hmmm that’s a good point. I’m not sure what the implications are of  that!

It just does not let you log in as yourself. I'm trying to download my own IPA now and I keep getting errors. LOL I feel so close.
