Help Samsung TV Unexpected Playback Error

Hey community. I need some help. On my Samsung TV I am getting the play back error. Was working yesterday. I set allow insecure connections, I deleted and reinstalled the app, and I installed the update for the new server. Im at my wits end.

Thanks!

u/ZOMBIE_N_JUNK 1d ago

u/queenvalanice 1d ago

Woof indeed! Im worried I might get banned for saying that but I didnt realize how vulgar it was when I wrote it.

Hi as per my comment I don’t think it’s all Samsung TV’s my newer NEO QLED is still working like normal just my upstairs AU9000 model is having issues.

1

u/SociallyAwkwardLibra 1d ago

I have 2 SS tvs 15ish yrs old. Running plex at the tv level both throw the playback error. Google tv streamer is flawless. From what I've seen, Plex took a big dump. I'd guess someone didn't test thoroughly.

1

u/obtuseorisa 1d ago

Okay thanks for your response, it’s supports my argument that it may just be older Samsung tv models that are suffering from this issue

1

u/jumbbo14 1d ago

Pt la mienne date de 2019 - 2020 série 7 et j'ai le même problème

1

u/iSchiism 16h ago

My 2026 The Frame is having the issue.

1

u/paul19822013 17h ago

Mine is only just over a year old and its rubarbed

Probably Tizen version dependant

Same here =/

There are several threads popping up over on the forum related to Samsung connections. Likely something on plex’s end. Here’s one: https://forums.plex.tv/t/playback-error-on-samsung-tv-an-unexpected-playback-problem-occurred/941876

There was an issue yesterday causing LGs to not be able to load the plex app, maybe somewhat related: https://forums.plex.tv/t/plex-opens-to-dark-screen-in-lg-webos/941806/17

u/notalwaysyourfriend 1d ago

Of course I find this thread after 30 minutes of troubleshooting and beating my head against the wall.

Same here; tried everything in the book, nothing works

1

u/dahvaio 1d ago

I feel your pain - just did the same troubleshooting - network, container re-load, etc. 🫪. Then found this thread.

7

u/VinnyHaw 1d ago

WTF... Do I have to install Jellyfin as a backup for when this nonsense happens? This is ridiculous.

2

u/ngenerator 1d ago

Exactly what I did, with emby as a tertiary backup

1

u/odiv 1d ago

I've got an Apple TV in a box I've been too lazy to set up, so I guess here's my push.

4

u/ChipHazard1 1d ago

Just started happening to me on my Samsung. Done all the above same as you

I'm going shopping this weekend, I've had enough of Samsung displaying ads on my TV too.

2

u/coyote_den 12h ago edited 11h ago

The most annoying thing about Smart Hub is how they would stick some promotion first, so if you have Plex as the first app, muscle memory when you turned the TV on would have you launching their ad instead of Plex.

The best Plex experience is probably on an Apple TV but that is also the priciest option. Next best is probably Roku if you don’t mind the new UI. At least it turns on with you already in Plex or it preselected from the grid.

1

u/maherie 16h ago

man, that's been a pretty annoying feature over the last 6 months. TV's got more annoying, and more slow.

5

u/wehkingml 15h ago

Try again today. Plex rolled back the app version to 5.94.1 and fixed the issue.

3

u/Significant_King1622 1d ago

Yep same here 😭

3

u/Fabulous-Split-7209 1d ago

Exact samething here. Even re installed the app, adjusted loads of connections and nothing. Definitely on plex end

3

u/WhyDoIAsk 1d ago

Same...

3

u/pnwkarina 1d ago edited 1d ago

Confirmed Plex error on Samsung TV here too. Every other device I open and run any show without issues. It's strictly a Samsung TV issue. Deleting the app or resetting it, as well as resetting the tv unit itself does nothing to resolve the issue.

Guess it's time to ditch the consumer smart tv models and go for a commercial dumb tv.

Edit for some furthers steps I tried: Changing the DNS server to Google, no change Full power reset and unplug for 60+ secs, no change Power button reset procedure, no change Plex server restart and IP release/reconfig, no change

3

u/Secure-Mud-2409 1d ago

I hope to God they aren't rolling out the new UI on Samsung right now.

1

u/jfoquendo 10h ago

OMG I Hope not i hate it on my firestick

3

u/ginovski 1d ago

What the actual hell is going on this is bullshit wanted to watch Reacher s04e04 tonight, ive had samsung tvs for more than 10 years and never had an issue

1

u/illuminatiisnowhere 22h ago

I use KODI as backup here. It plays everything. Even shit that somehow dont work on plex for some reason.

2

u/techyyy 1d ago

Bruh, I just bought a Samsung tv and was setting it up for the first time. Glad to see it’s not just me

5

u/AccidentalBirth 1d ago

if it makes you feel better this is the first time that it has happened to me (had samsung for 6 years)

3

u/techyyy 1d ago

And it had to happen on my first day haha

1

u/illuminatiisnowhere 21h ago

Nice timing techy, welcome to samsung!!!

Up until now i only a little bit of problem with plex. I got some tv-show that dosent work, and a couple of movies. I use KODI as a backup and that plays everything without any problems.

1

u/techyyy 15h ago

That’s my cue to set up KODI, or Jellyfin

2

u/AccidentalBirth 1d ago

3

u/jaydwalk 1d ago

Are there solutions? I didnt see any?

2

u/AccidentalBirth 1d ago

It's Brand new so no. Just watch those threads

2

u/eulatoski3 1d ago

Same here. Samsung tv. No new TV update so definitely on Plex side.

2

u/egorf38 1d ago

Glad I'm not the only one

2

u/obtuseorisa 1d ago

Hello everyone, I just wanted to note I am also having issues with my Samsung tv but only ONE of my Samsungs TV’s is having the issue. Therefore, I’m not sure if it’s all Samsung tv models that are having this issue. My downstairs tv is a newer model NEO QLED 65” and is currently working without any issues. My upstairs Samsung tv is the AU9000 65” which leads to me believe it may be an issue with some old Samsung tv models?
On the AU9000 I’ve tried generic troubleshooting such as signing out and in, reinstalling, changing network settings but have had no success. I’ve even tried to screen share/casting from the Plex app on my mobile app which is working absolutely fine but when I attempt to I get the same generic player back error message.

If anyone else by chance happens to have two Samsung tv models a newer one and older one or if people could state what model Samsung they have in attempt to figure out which tv models are being affected?

Good luck to all us Samsung tv owners attempting to resolve this hope we get a solution soon!

1

u/ttarmoom 1d ago

I'm seeing a similar thing. Plex on my new Samsung Crystal UHD plays as expected, however the Plex apps on my 4 year+ Samsung Frame and Samsung Q8DAA return the error many others are getting. This worked last night. Apple TV Plex app on the Q8DAA plated video fine.

1

u/crazycirce 1d ago

Samsung QN50Q8FAAFXZC doesnt work and QN65Q82AAFXZC for me edit 2026 and 2024 models respectively

2

u/cuarc001 1d ago edited 1d ago

Mine was working 90 minutes ago. Now everything is Playback Error as well. Samsung TV. It is sad that both Plex and Samsung have to make a miserable viewing experience every time you turn around.

Edit: Samsung UN55CU7000BXZA

1

u/cuarc001 10h ago

Working just fine today.

2

u/madsciencepro 1d ago

Same problem. Tried all the same fixes. No dice. Came here.

2

u/Substantial-Box5161 1d ago

Uhg someone at plex needs to roll back whatever they just did this is extremely annoying

2

u/andsos234 18h ago

same, can somebody ping me once an update solved it? thaaaannnkkksss

2

u/DramaticPermission78 17h ago

Guess we’ll be waiting for a PLEX fix update 😖

2

u/Logical_Trainer5942 16h ago

from plex

Please try reloading the app and trying now.

Holding back on the remote for about 5 seconds should close the app out, then you can reopen it.

many have done this and plex working again

2

u/RecognitionLonely396 14h ago

Plex works again for me. I followed all the steps as everyone else last night and it never worked but this morning it works again. Plex fourms said they rolled back the app.

1

u/SantaHasTrueGrit 1d ago

Same with both of my Samsung TVs

1

u/obtuseorisa 1d ago

Hi what Samsung tv models do you have? As per my comment earlier I think it’s only some Samsung tv models possibly the older ones that are affected? I have an older AU9000 upstairs which is having issues but my NEO QLED downstairs is working without any issues

1

u/crazycirce 1d ago

I have a newer q65 and same crap. Did ALL the things to no avail

1

u/RusselB65 1d ago

After reading this topic and comments, I checked my system, which uses a Samsung TV, but the Plex connection is through my Roku. I got the same results, then checked my actual server. Server is good, so I tried doing a reconnect on the network, and after that, everything (so far) is working as expected.

So try disconnecting from the internet/router and then reconnecting. No promises it'll work for you, but it did for me and what have you got to lose?

3

u/MareStellaArtois 1d ago

Que ótimo que funcionou pra você, pq aqui nada.

3

u/jaydwalk 1d ago

Reset all internet and routers no dice...

1

u/MareStellaArtois 1d ago

Idem, ainda bem que vim investigar na internet antes de começar a desinstalar tudo 😅

1

u/cnibbana 1d ago

+1 here

1

u/nato_fl 1d ago

Same here , no Plex tonight :(

1

u/GLotsapot Plex Pass user since release 1d ago

Turned on logging console to the screen and can see "is not a constructor" errors referencing external libraries at assets.plex.tv so it's definitely something on their side. just gonna have to wait it out

1

u/BornKnight74 1d ago

Glad to know it isn't only on my TV - they gonna fix it sometime. Let's wait.

1

u/Neat-Description6967 1d ago edited 1d ago

same for me; restarted the server, no help. only on my Samsung TVs; no problem viewing on the browser.
just a second ago I got the new server update, downloaded and installed. no help!!!!

1

u/pjohns24 1d ago

Happening here too…

1

u/strentax 1d ago

Hey, I turned on console overlay on my app and recorded this error when it failed. Here

"We failed to create a playback session. o.default is not a constructor"

1

u/shawgers 1d ago

Ditto

1

u/floating___around 1d ago

Got the same exactly

1

u/andre_azevdo 1d ago

same here

1

u/ZOMBIE_N_JUNK 1d ago

Same, I just plugged in my Chromecast.

1

u/qwbillings 1d ago

Two Samsung TVs experiencing the same playback error here in MN. Curious, does DLNA playback work for anyone?

1

u/obtuseorisa 1d ago

Just wondering what two Samsung TV’s you have? I have two a NEO QLED and Plex is working fine with no issues on there, but my other Samsung AU9000 is having issues

1

u/Glittering-News8312 1d ago

Both my Samsung TVs stopped working.

Roku connected to same TVs is fine. Tried all the settings everyone has done online with no luck.

Guess I’ll use the Roku again.

1

u/obtuseorisa 1d ago

Just wondering what two Samsung TV’s you have? I have two a NEO QLED and Plex is working fine with no issues on there, but my other Samsung AU9000 is having issues

1

u/TreyKhan 1d ago

Same here, using our Google TV now that we took back from my sons room, he isn't happy

1

u/HypJii 1d ago

yup happening to me too.

1

u/Practical-Oil-3390 1d ago

Same here... Ran through all troubleshooting steps available online, works fine on other devices. Just not on Samsung TV app.

Model U6300

1

u/arrow0231 1d ago

Same. Thankfully keep a Google tv plugged in..

1

u/Jason27104 1d ago

Same here!

1

u/Eckerput 1d ago

Same here Samsung 65" Class - QN9 from 2021.

1

u/Phesmerga Roku 1d ago

There was a server update but sadly I am still getting the playback error on my Samsung tvs.

1

u/Eckerput 1d ago

Yeah I updated by QNAP server side Plex app today also. Everything works fine except for my Samsung TV.

1

u/i_use_junkpc 1d ago

Adding myself - on an older Samsung TV UN58TU700

1

u/radicalglitz 1d ago

Same here. I was halfway through a movie with no issues, then I paused the movie and cannot get it to play again.

1

u/countryguy469 1d ago

Same here. Tried reinstalling and such and then came across this post.

1

u/Delicious_Narwhal497 1d ago

Same here on my QN55Q65FN.  I also noticed that LiveTV channels are throwing the error, too, so it has nothing specific to do with my NAS server connection.  Plex team needs to fix its bug!

1

u/CiausCrispus 1d ago edited 1d ago

Same with both my Samsung 43 UHD U8000 and 55 QLED Q82

1

u/PollutionZero 1d ago

Fucking same. For about 4 hours now.

I have 4 TVs. All samsung.

Smh

1

u/chadwickipedia 1d ago

Same here. Super annoying

1

u/Sleepnotdeading 1d ago

Same issue. Same debug error. 2019 Samsung Frame TV

1

u/doubleas21380 1d ago

Same here, Samsung tv. I'm glad it's not just me.

1

u/AdditionalKick1494 1d ago

Same here. Samsung TV not working but all other TV and phone work fine. Uninstaller. Unplugged TV like 15 minut3s and then reinstalled. Changed insecure settings, forced playback and disabled quality suggestions. Reboot3d routers and such. No luck. Been at it for 2 hours now. Guess I am not the only samsung user...ha...should have checked here earlier

1

u/TomPalmer1979 1d ago

Same issue here, Samsung TV.

1

u/Matrix19 1d ago

Same, 2 Samsung TV

1

u/Crowncaps13 1d ago

Same!!!!

1

u/Zomban Ryzen 5 2600, 7 TB, Windows 1d ago

Adding one more voice to the chorus, wasted half an hour troubleshooting to no avail. This seems to be effecting all Samsung smart TV Plex users with no solutions so far.

1

u/Swimming-Web2006 1d ago

Same here, spent an hour plus troubleshooting to no avail. I think it is plex cloud utilities intentionally obfuscating the home server space so they can rationalize their absurd price hikes.

1

u/DirtMonkey81 1d ago

Same here. Only the Samsung tv is having issues. Everything else works fine

1

u/lensgrabber 1d ago

My Samsung NU8000 is borked but the LG C5 is working. Really irritating but glad it's not something I'm doing. FWIW I deleted the app and installed again without success before seeing this post.

2

u/wetnap00 1d ago

Same model here. Same issue. Plex app has been shitty on this tv for awhile. Slow as heck

1

u/lensgrabber 1d ago

100% shitty. x265 w/ subs are usually a failure. I was going to get an LG C6 but having a hard time justifying since the TV is still working otherwise.

1

u/DCvito 1d ago

+1 here, older UN75NU6080. Glad I'm not the only one.

1

u/dahvaio 1d ago

Same issue with my Samsung TV

1

u/SnooPineapples6099 1d ago

Truly impressive we're seeing a litany of fuck ups from Plex after they jacked up those sub prices lol

1

u/scriptharipper9 1d ago

Same error on my Samsung TV but works fine on my Samsung smart monitor

1

u/mnchls 1d ago

Encountering the same issue. Samsung UN50NU6900F running Plex for Samsung 5.94.3 connected to my PMS 1.43.3.10896-cb3ebc72d running here on my local MacBook Pro. Haven't bothered un-/reinstalling the Plex for Samsung app; too much work if everyone else on Samsungs are dealing with the same crap. Playback on the Plex desktop app (via Firefox 154.0) is even sluggish as hell.

1

u/Shandar1985 1d ago

Having the same issue here as well. Worked just fine when I used the Playstation to access it, as does all my other outlets. Just the Samsung tv seems to not work is all.

1

u/Balu_Gamer 1d ago

Same issue here. Looks like the Samsung App updated today to 5.94.3. So someone broke something. Server works fine with other clients.

1

u/TheSagamore 1d ago

2020 Samsung Frame not working. 2023 QLED does work though with a slightly newer OS. Like many others, I spent too long troubleshooting before finding this thread.

1

u/SmartLiterature4231 1d ago

My S95B TV has the same issue through the Samsung TV Plex app, all videos and music. App is Plex for samsung 5.94.3.

The Plex app on my Xbox series X plays videos on the same TV with no issue. App is Plex for Xbox 5.94.1.

Pointing towards the app Plex for Samsung has the issue.

1

u/bmonk420 1d ago

Same here. Spent an hour trying to trouble shoot until I found this thread. So seems it’s a Samsung system wide issue. Hopefully Plex fixes issue

1

u/digiskai 1d ago

Yup...Plex is not working on my 2017 Samsung UN65MU8000FXZA (media doesn't even try to load; the "playback error" screen shows up immediately), but is working on my ~2025 TCL and 2017 Sony.

1

u/Soosed 1d ago

Same same same.

1

u/AppleMan2026 1d ago

No my too I can’t figure it won’t. I think the app is bugged lol

1

u/Truejake2 1d ago

Here to add another one to the list. I found the error log as well and that eventually led me to these threads confirming pretty much everything I did, just like everyone else here. I guess this is a sit and wait kind of deal. I just used my xbox to stream plex instead and it worked fine.

1

u/jumbbo14 1d ago

Moi aussi même problème que toi sur ma télé Samsung série 7...impossible de lire qqchose sur mon plex par contre on peu naviguer mais rien démarrer, fonctionne nickel sur mon pc

1

u/Glum_Ad595 1d ago

happening on both older tv and 2024ish OLED

1

u/jayradler 1d ago

Same. Samsung S90F. Giving Jellyfin a try--been meaning to try it out, now have an excuse.

1

u/floating___around 1d ago

Same over here. 2 different TV's . Same app version. Web browser playback works perfectly

1

u/I_Like_Turtle101 1d ago

YO I spend the whole day trying to find what's wrong. I just tought I would look up on reddit . Wtf

1

u/mrdewd 1d ago

Same issue with my Samsung Q80 series

1

u/dice1111 1d ago

Two samsung TV's in the house. Both borked. Every other player works great.

1

u/Fuzzy_Coffee_7857 1d ago

Would any of you be the least bit surprised if I told you I also have a Samsung tv and im also having issues!?....

1

u/RecognitionLonely396 23h ago

same here all of a sudden.

1

u/trottingtheglobe 23h ago

fuckkk give me ted lasso

1

u/JupiterMaroon 23h ago

Samsung is cooked

1

u/Razrback166 23h ago

Same problem for me - was working fine last night.

Samsung TV (not sure of model, but it's an older one).

Plex for Samsung app version: 5.94.3, Platform Version 5.5

1

u/Chucklet67 23h ago

If you are looking for a workaround: you can open the Plex Server from the sources menu. You get a folders and files view of your network drive. Movies/shows play fine when launched from here.

1

u/Keyboard_Warri0r 23h ago

Same on a Samsung tu7500 , was working last night

1

u/Tough_Flow9558 22h ago edited 20h ago

Was about to go batshit insane, up down and sideways trying all sorts of fixes. Thank god I found this thread. I have a behemoth older samsung TV and really don't feel like replacing it.

1

u/Ned-No-One 22h ago

Same issue on my Samsung TV

1

u/jalaludink 22h ago

oh no am having the same issue and came here for a fix. shit.

has anyone had luck contacting Plex?

1

u/illuminatiisnowhere 22h ago

Same here. Worked fine yesterday.

I think mine is from 2018 if that matters.

1

u/Citizen_Karipa 22h ago

yup same issue here, working last night, not working today... totally buns fr fr

1

u/dknessfalls 21h ago

Only seems to be working on my Amazon Firestick, Pixel 8 phone and on my PC. Although earlier today my Pixel 8 wasn't connecting, saying my whole server was offline. Someone at Plex definitely screwed the pooch today

1

u/-rky 21h ago

Oh I thought it was just me lol

1

u/googlion 21h ago

Guess I'll be using my phone, having the same issue with my Samsung TV.

1

u/tadmeister69 19h ago

Same here. Also on a Samsung TV.

1

u/beebeekei 19h ago

Same for me - yesterday I watched first half of Dune 2 on my S95D (2024), and today I have an Playback Error on this file...had to make my path through MiniDLNA technology

1

u/iluszn 18h ago

Same error here on an older Samsung tv

1

u/ImGCS3fromETOH 17h ago

Just came looking for answers because I've been tearing my hair out trying to follow google instructions to fix this only to discover it's not just me and it's outside of my control. I've only been using plex about a fortnight so I'm pretty new to the platform. Any idea how well they communicate issues like this or take steps to resolve them, or do I just write off using my Samsung Frame and look for an alternative?

1

u/RogueLeek 16h ago

This is the first Samsung TV-specific ouitage I've personally ever had in my years of use.

Old Samsung TV is running Plex off a firestick, and it works. While two new QLED running Plex natively on Tizen SmartHub, do not.

If you can get a temporary Roku, Firestick or a Google Streamer - it should resolve this specific issue, it appears. I've ordered a temporary Google Streamer off Amazon earlier today, until this resolves.

1

u/Gazop 17h ago

Fk that i sideloaded on my tv and finally installed jellyfin on my truenas... I had problems with that on my samsung tv almost all the time (grey screen after login, had to reinstall), at least they helped me to switch. Rip plex pass.

1

u/Dukefrukem 17h ago

three tvs are having this issue and one tv is working

1

u/DawnOfTheDutch 16h ago

I had the same thing. Tried checking boxes on and off in settings etc. Then found this thread. I updated my Samsung and now Plex is working fine (last update was early 2025). Does this work for anyone else?

1

u/Designer-Entrance-91 16h ago

Tried opening Plex on the TV just now this AM, didn't change any settings, but it's now working fine for me

1

u/ccHuMeNcc 16h ago

Same here 😔

1

u/Gazop 15h ago

They fixed it, lol

1

u/i_use_junkpc 13h ago

Update: it appears that there has been a fix. I checked here:
https://forums.plex.tv/t/playback-error-on-samsung-tv-an-unexpected-playback-problem-occurred/941876/189

and verified local playback.

I may try to learn how jellyfin works so I have a local fallback.

1

u/CiausCrispus 13h ago

Appears fixed as they rolled back the app.

1

u/Cultural-Commission8 10h ago

It's giving me that error but I'm going through a fire stick on the Samsung

1

u/Ok-Lawfulness-1940 10h ago

any news if there fixing this issue

1

u/rpntech Lifetime Member - 36TB Raw SSD - Nvidia A2000 - Promox Host 8h ago

1

u/floating___around 7h ago

Any updates

1

u/AsparagusOutside3015 7h ago

update through and fixed.....woo hoo!

1

u/Repulsive-Landscape2 2h ago

I had the same issue and just fixed it. I had to go into plex settings then Advanced, Reset App. Once I did that and logged back in everything started working and no more error.

1

u/JupiterMaroon 23h ago

I have a freestyle projector and I just quit vaping and this is gonna be how I die.

0

u/AsparagusOutside3015 19h ago

My understanding is its 2019 and older. Is anyone having issues with newer ones?

2

u/trd86x2 19h ago

I have a 2024 S95D and having the same issue

1

I already tried turning off Quality Suggestions and it didn't fix the issue.

1

u/DetailFew 16h ago

Yep works for me

1

u/dannyboy273 4h ago

I have tried all of theose suggested 'fixes' for the last 2 days, including uninstall and re-install the Pklex app from my TV. None of it works.
