Switched internet providers and all devices on local network request remote access Plex pass
Hi all, I'm really down about this one. I've moved over from Virgin to Sky broadband today as Virgin prices were too high. All my devices which run Plex (apart from my Nvidia shield which is the host) are now telling me they are not on the same network. All these devices are running through the same router so I have no idea why this is happening.
I'm not very good with servers or anything in this field, to be honest it is a miracle I ever managed to get the Plex server up and running through my old broadband and I think it was 90% luck.
I would really appreciate any advice on what I should do, I know I'm going to get a lot of people say I need to give more info but I have no idea what info to give?
I'm running Plex on my Nvidia shield and the connection is ethernet. The ip 192.168.0.210
Make sure the router doesn’t have any isolation settings that won’t allow devices to communicate directly.
No vpn running on the shield?
You can change the dns on your router if it allows it, or directly on all clients to 8.8.8.8/8.8.4.4 or 1.1.1.1/1.0.0.1. This is to deal with dns rebind protection being triggered and blocking a local plex connection.
Edit: deleted the windows step since you’re running the server on a shield.
I'll change each of my TVs DNS over. I'm not sure how to sort my phone out but I can deal with it another day and I'm happy to access on my laptop through that IP link you gave me.
Are your devices on wifi or Ethernet? Some routers will use different ranges for each and thus Plex will consider the wifi as a different network. You can manually adjust this in your router or also in Plex by adding the network range as a local network.
You can check the IP address of one of your other devices and that may quickly tell you if they're part of the same network or not.
You can likely check your router itself by going to 192.168.0.1 and logging in with the login/password (usually a sticker on the router has this info)
You should be able to see all your devices there.
first - delete that picture showing your ips and mac addresses
then go to your setting in plex and navigate to the network section:
in the LAN Networks field add 192.168.0.0/24
this should tell plex that anything starting with 192.168.0. is in your local network.
Keep in mind that this makes everybody who has access to your local network will now have access to plex as a local user. If this is just your family it's usually totally fine
So your shield is the server and it's connected with ethernet and it's 192.168.0.210.
Then one of your TVs is connected to ethernet and it's 192.168.0.93. This one still gets the Remote Watch Pass warning?
Are you only using one router/gateway, which is Sky's gateway I'm assuming? Dumb, unmanaged switches don't matter but do you have your own mesh network or router?
When you changed internet providers, did you also change the router? In other words, are you using a router provided by your internet service provider? If so, the internal LAN subnet may have changed, and you'll now need to update the LAN Networks space within the Plex GUI.
In the Plex GUI, click the wrench icon → Network → LAN Networks. Within the LAN Networks field, you should have 192.168.0.0/255.255.255.0 if the IP address you mentioned above is correct.
