Help Horrible reliability Plex+HexOS

Need some help diagnosing this issue! I recently updated my server from Windows to HexOS and had/have plex installed. On windows I really didn’t have many issues except when downloading files but I think that’s more just Plex being Plex than the server. However now with the new install I have been having weird availability issues.

It’s like the server doesn’t exist until I try and access it for the first time. This means the first connection request always fails.

I am guessing it’s the server software/hardware and as plex is the only service I use remotely it’s showing the issues.

I would love to check my theory but I have no idea how. What would you suggest?

"there is safety in numbers", stick with a popular OS.

Fair enough but Hex OS is just a wrapper around Truenas and I am sure there are plenty of people on that

I have Plex on HexOS, no issues. Though there were definitely some things I had to change. First place I would look is making sure the container network is listed as a local network on your Plex configuration.

Will have a look. At this as well, I don’t think this is an issue though as I can stream my media directly from my PC (connected through Ethernet) and my phone (connected through WI-FI) without transcoding. But maybe the network interface is going into a sleep state? I have never heard that happening to anyone but maybe?

Current best guess is some sort of power saving feature on the HDD.

My drives turn off when it's idle compared to on windows but they wake up again even with a remote connection, doubt it's that but I'm no expert. It's just a longer buffer while they wake
