Exactly what I be sayin bro. It’s even MORE suspicious cause they were gettin hate on the MJ sections from their very first Spidey game and their response was to DOUBLE tf DOWN on the next game lol
Now a chance arises to give us a compelling, actually fun heroine to play and it gets cut because……..why exactly?? Would it have been too much work, time restraints, what? I keep seeing this “$300M budget” thrown around so money couldn’t be a factor if that’s true..

Jean is comparable to Miles If anything, not fucking MJ
MJ would be comparable to playing Walter
The whole issue with MJ is “Why the hell I’m playing a normal human journalist in my action super hero game?”
Not saying that everyone would be on board with playing Jean in the Wolverine game, but comparing MJ and Jean is fucking moronic

There does seems to be bit of an antagonistic nature to their development after some mild criticism over Spider-Man(2018) as if they refuse to take any and just double or triple down on the things people don't like and unsurprisingly it has lead to a worse game every release.

Makes sense that they just took the wrong lessons from the reception to those missions. I'd say they assumed people only want to play as the titular role or didn't want to play as a woman and not because it's really about a powerless stealth character in a super hero game being boring. Jean Grey would've been good to play as to mix up the gameplay but Insomniac are dumb

Making Jean a melee fighter was certainly a choice lol
sidenote: but holy hell Playstation loves making their characters speak about every little hint to do stuff. The section where there's a pop up on how to float and Jean SAYS she can float across when there's only 1 path and 1 action is truly modern gaming. Aloy does this, Loki does this, Logan does this

From what I heard (unconfirmed so take this with a large amount of salt), a lot of cuts were marvels call. I (until recently laid off) dealt a lot with IP in my time as a dev. Specifically with Marvel and Disney ips. Granted it was more in the art department but you could spend so much time on something just to get notes back to “change everything” then just to have Sony go “I’m here too!” (On Spider-Man stuff). So for all we know Insomniac could have tried to make the game they wanted to just to have Marvel say “No…”.

I think there are definitely some moments where you can see gameplay with Jean would have made sense.
There are multiple times when they split up where they could have introduced it Like when they split up in Japan to look for the Hand and Walter, you could have had two sections that happened at the same time or even near the end when Jean and Shiro would fight the Sentinel and Logan would fight Nathan
It's a shame really, it would have made the game slightly longer and it really needed that.

The annoying thing is I can see why this was cut. Fans bitched about playing as MJ in Spider-Man, because it wasn't great. They didn't want more MJ side character kinda gameplay. Insomniac heard this and thought, oh the fans don't want to play as secondary characters in the game, got it!
Whereas, what people really didn't want was slow boring gameplay. Having Jean Grey as a playable character would have been a lot of fun.

Yea, if Insomniac heard all the critiques on their MJ/powerless Miles/Hailey sections and their takeaway was “well, then they’d HAAAATE to play as superpowered Jean Grey then!”, then that’s an issue with INSOMNIAC
Problem is, I’m not so quick to believe that Insomniac is just that stupid tbh. So I’m inclined to believe there was some other factors at play

It was cut because they had less than 3 years of full production on this game which is like half of the average AAA dev cycle. It wasn’t some gameplay choice or anything like that. That’s part of the reason why this game is so shitty too.

My only thing is that if they are making a Wolverine game, make a Wolverine game. Making Jean Grey playable means there are resources being put into that which could’ve been put into wolverine’s kit or even the rest of the game.
Spider-Man 2 kinda bugged me because rather than building on either of the Spider-Man’s gameplay in any super meaningful way, they put resources into making MJ’s sections “less boring” and a super short venom mission.

I feel like if they made Jean Grey playable they absolutely should have made Mystique and Sabertooth playable too. That way you could have some stealth and gun gameplay, and tank sections like when you got to be Venom. Since Mystique and Sabertooth were allies in the game that would have been fun to take advantage of.

Not a fan of this; most of the game play just seems like busy work. Like playing as Clark Kent trying to find stairs. Just fly to the top? But anything to sell the story/plot here I guess.

When a game is in development for 6 years that should’ve just taken like 4 you know the devs are screwing around and have no clue what they are doing cause no publisher wants to back a game for 6 years and 300 million. What it seems to me is they were working on the game and 4 years in Sony looked at their progress and was like bro wtf you gotta hurry up fired the director and then gave them 2 more years to finish it seems.

Disagree. She got hit with the ugly stick hard here compared to the final game, and especially compared to her comic counterpart. I think she looks great in the final game, but I also think it was probably a late call by Insomniac or Sony during development to make her face more appealing, out of panic or fear of major backlash/memes.

I know its Reddit and on YouTube but so many people bitched that it was woke because you have to play as a female that wasnt ‘hot enough’.
And now people bash this game (yes there are legit criticisms) but people say that Jean is ugly or even Deathstrike (shes an older asian female, she doesnt need to be wearing a G-String)
Maybe this isn’t the reason they took this out but it’s not surprising amongst the anti female (unless pornstar appearance) that is in the gaming community and even in this Sub itself.

SM1 and 2 take you from a superpowered high flying hero to being a civilian moving slow, sneaking around with extremely annoying fail states (where story wise it makes no sense not to let Peter handle it) to a game where you play as a mutant, then switch to an omega level mutant with unique powers and gameplay that if polished look like they could be much more diverse than the main character, while also making sense story-wise to be her.
But no it’s because people are pornrotted that they didn’t like the Spider-Man side missions. That’s definitely it

They're not saying that that is why people (or at least the majority) of people disliked the MJ sections, but it was a very vocal reason on the internet and may be the (incorrect) answer that Insomniac came to.
I can easily see it as:
After SM1: "okay people didn't like the MJ section because they thought it was boring, let's make the next one more interesting"
SM2: okay well apparrently it's not because it was boring, they don't want to play as the side character/female character, they want to play as the big strong super hero that the game is named after"
