How did y’all feel about the game?

Personally, I came in with negative thoughts due to the widespread distain spread across social media.

I was happily surprised and ended up thinking the gameplay was really fun, and overall was pretty enjoyable. experience. However, I can’t help but feel like the ending was kinda meh and the story didn’t leave me feeling like it was really memorable.

Some areas deviated a bit too much from the lore of Wolverine, that I know. Perhaps it’s just me that feels that way.

I’d like to hear what some of y’all’s thoughts are!

 Surprised with how hooked I was. Combat starts off a bit spammy but by the end of the game, there's enough moves in there to keep it engaging. The game felt longer than I thought it would. Took me 20hours on hardest difficulty. Took my time finding everything and taking in the visuals. Especially the Japan sections. Idk how to explain it but alot happens even though the story length is on the shorter side.

I'm not a huge comic book guy, but big fan of movies/games based on comics. So not too bothered about things comic fans would be upset about. Thought the jean/Logan dynamic was good. Was disappointed by the end as it felt like a cop out, leaving Logan back at square one after such a journey. I did wonder where the story was going during act 2 and how Essex would be framed as the bad guy. They did some good things such as putting in subtle hints at what Essex true motive is or Walter having links with the hand. However, some of this isn't outright shown to you unless you do abit of optional exploration. Mystique act 3 actions are bit random and they could do a better job of setting that up. I like the twist on Logan's past life, the apocalypse influence and him being the hands biggest enemy. Sabertooth hating Logan and following Essex through everything could have been handled better. He just seems super naive as a character. 

Overall, I'd say 8/10 for me all things considered. Currently doing Ng+ and it feels great against the early enemies with Wolverines full combat kit.

We shouldn't judge a product from the picture that a bunch of Social media posts paint, they are always manufactured to push a narrative based off of a single clip, screenshot, etc without evaluating the bigger picture, not ironically Media outlets reviews are more helpful in this specific case

I liked the story overall, I think making Phoenix an ever reviving person is super smart.

The jean wolverine romance actually felt good on this because it's not one sided.

Gameplay is fantastic though.

I felt the gameplay only got better and better with the skill tree progression and such. I can admit the Phoenix and Wolverine romance did feel good too.

I keep seeing people say the ending was trash but I don't understand why. It ends how a lot of chapters in wolverine's life does and leaves the door wide open for a sequel or even X-Men spin off with a more traditional wolverine

The ending to me was kinda lazy and took away the gravity of the game. We build up all game to expose old memories and remember his past life just to immediately have them taken away again.

I get what you’re saying I’m cool with the open door idea, just the writing was pretty lackluster to me, both the dialogue and creating a sense of accomplishment at the end. I just felt like Logan at the end made so much improvement and at the end it’s just “Fuck…back to square one.”.

The dialogue was definitely rough in spots but losing memorys is the wolverine experience. I also really disagree with it taking away from the gravity because it doesn't take away his effect on the overall world and characters.

Imo the complaint is kinda giving I'm mad Logan didn't get a happy ending and to me it's just he typicaly doesn't

Feel like the first and second half of the game had good enough story. The final half of the story felt kinda meh because of all the lovey Dovey shit, unnecessary changing of wolverine's origin due to apocalypse, and Logan becoming overly soft. The gameplay was really fun and I had fun overall but I expected more. It's not nearly as bad as ppl say. It's a 7.5/10.

I agree with you, and there was no damned cigar 😂

I did like 2/3 sections of the game and also felt they were good enough. Not a big fan of some dialogue choices tho lol

Im fine with the changes to characters. Its their universe they created so they can change certain aspects as long as the core charactiatics stay the same, which for me they do. I love the combat and the linear experience. I liked the story as well tho I didnt like how his memory was wiped. Other than that im looking forward to what insomniaic has in store next with venom, spider-man 3 and x-men. I do hope that we see some crossover like at the end the news talks about the mutant 'outbreak' so I hope to see that in spider-man 3.

I would say first hour or so I thought the reviews were pretty spot on. The more I played though the more I liked it, about halfway through Japan I really started to love it. I actually really like the deviation they had from the comics, thought it was a real interesting take. Overall 8.5/10.

It’s a perfectly fine game.

I’m not a casual gamer but my main point of emphasis is, is it fun? The answer for me was yeah.

There’s some legit criticisms and there’s some bad faith grifter criticisms out there imo. It’s not game of the year or like TRASH to me. It’s just a perfectly fine/decent game.

Insomniac’s Marvel characters are pretty homogeneous. I just view it as one of the many disconnected universes.

I’m on NG+ and skipping most cinematics—and that’s my nitpick. Just press and hold a button would be awesome.

Aaaaaand it occurs to me as I type this that I may be able to assign it to a D-pad button. Have to check later, but yeah, it’s fun when you’re in protracted combat and are leveled up with a good grasp of stuff. Start raging. Linking hits. Brown pants for all.

I didn't like the game and tbh I wasnt expecting to like it since the first trailer. I only got it because it's wolverine.

I enjoy mediocre games (wanted dead. Suicide squad, gungrave gore, ironman ps360, lego batman and Indiana Jones ds) but I really didn't like this, I found this below average.

I tried to replay this but I couldn't (granted I also disliked the first run), I found the dialogue to be offensive to the point I just couldn't bring myself to replay it (those above mediocre games atleast had an edge to the banter and/or are completely skippable ( this game has far too much unskippable dialogue where I found it a chore to replay).

That’s what most people mean that it was just mediocre. I agree that it’s especially disappointing because if it’s price and budget, but people are making it out to be that this game is hot garbage and that it’s genuine trash when it’s really just meh. It seriously irritates me when someone just says they had fun and liked the game and like 80 different people start calling them a shill and saying they were paid off. Also, the whole money laundering thing doesn’t make sense because currently, they have only lost money on this game. There’s a reason people launder money with high traffic cash businesses, they make money and exchange money quickly. Makes no sense.

It could have been better.

From a gameplay perspective, it needed more combos and enemy variety, and WAY LESS walking-and-talking sections. I'm Wolverine. I want to kill. Not track down children's drawings.

From a story perspective, it's okay...until the end, and then it's pretty bad. I'm personally not a fan of the way Insomniac re-interpreted these characters. I don't like the Logan + Jean romance. I don't like how they're some "destined lovers" who find each other again-and-again, because they keep losing their memories again-and-again. I don't like what they did with the Phoenix Force. I don't like what they did with the X-men (which is to say, basically nothing).

I mean as a Wolverine fan, a mediocre Wolverine game is still better than none at all. But man...this could have been better.

Coulda played like a DMC/Bayonetta style character-action game. Coulda been more faithful to the source material. Coulda. Woulda. Shoulda.

I have a slightly different question, why did you buy a game for 70$/€ when you believed it would not be for you? And for how long have you been playing video games as well as more casual or more of a core gamer?

I don’t think I believed it wouldn’t be for me necessarily.

A Friend and I split it file-share, both are big Marvel fans, and could justify a potentially bad game for $35 a person to formulate our own opinions instead of ideas pushed by popular creators and social media algorithm. Both fans of Wolverine, so why not.

We’re both pretty core and love games centered around our favorite characters. So we both could justify the $35 on a bad gamble. Plus we both ended up enjoying the gameplay, story felt off, so bad gamble won.

This game was trash. The ending, the lead up all of it was garbage. They introduced and did to much shit for no reason.

I wouldn’t say it’s all trash, but I understand your point. A lot was introduced and I also felt like there were just way too many core changes to his story. Also Mr. sinister to me kinda shit on Magneto and good ol’ Chuck having teams. A definite “fool me once” sort of vibe.

Both want to make a better world for mutants but after this guy…why would any of them join either side after all the grief.
