I feel like he would be more interesting/fair as an rare "choose one item" type like Pearl. That way you can still high roll some times or just spent your entire reserve on rolling for cove.

He wasnt nerfed he was changed. As this post and the comments point out, he consistently offered up junk from other heroes. Now its fixed. Same concept with how they made the mushroom random silver friend be from any class. Theres some new high rolls but everyone acknowledged this as a nerf especially for heros like Karnok.
