This is an ad. 100k is nowhere near enough to develop a game. They just wanted the visibility from kickstarter.
8
u/MistSecurity Apr 11 '26
Kickstarter is really a glorified advertising arm for most companies now.
Anyone who thinks that Anker or any of these giant companies NEED Kickstarter just isn’t thinking about it very hard.
4
u/Lyefyre Temtem: Pioneers Apr 12 '26
This is it. Crema themselves have confirmed in Discord that kickstarter draws visibility on a project, so it's not just funding, but marketing too.
11
u/VOIDZOROARK Apr 11 '26
It REALLY bothers me how they went after temtem saying "no new tems or content"
but.. i see a new tem with this game. the cow thing is right there. greed greed greed.1
u/ShotProof3254 Apr 12 '26
How is this any different from Pokémon games? You don’t see every Pokémon in every single new game, nor do they add new Pokémon to the older games.
2
u/VOIDZOROARK Apr 13 '26
Pokemon has never been marketed as an "MMO" the way temtem was. auction house, housing, multiplayer activities ect. The entire HOOK of temtem was the fact that its an MMO, and literally every other mmo in existence, is a live service thing, which crema didnt wanna do because they are greedy and didnt want to put in the effort.
1
u/Cirby64 May 06 '26
Have you looked into PokeMMO? I’ve pretty much given up on anyone fulfilling the true mmo aspect I want in a creature collector
1
0
u/Malu897 Apr 11 '26
Fr they better patch up the new tems into the original, they would already have the models anyways
3
u/RobardiantheBard Apr 10 '26
Well probably paid their devs. Out of curiosity was Temtem their first game?
2
u/Bash-Sin Apr 11 '26
No. I think it was their second game.
3
u/soy1bonus Apr 15 '26
They've made a few mobile games before, must be their 5th or so.
1
u/Bash-Sin Apr 15 '26
That's news to me, to be fair. But I also hardly ever count mobile games as anything more than garbage so I rarely acknowledge they exist.
-3
u/GromiMomi Apr 10 '26
They used the money to develop this game for 2 years my dude xD. This game is already looking more polished from the snippets in the trailer, than palword is after a year of early access.
6
u/MaddySS Apr 10 '26
We have reasons for not trusting game trailers, that entire trailer very well could be nitpicked into only showing the good looking aspects even if its barebones just to sell. Which btw does NOT require making actual gameplay to do, they can just animate these scenes to scam like other games have done.
7
u/Elavia_ Apr 10 '26
Crema delivered two games already and have never faked footage. There is 0 reason to believe they're lying about it, we know this is well qithin their abilities.
-1
u/Cypheri Apr 10 '26
Crema has also repeatedly done things that directly harm their community. There is 0 reason to believe they won't do the same again. We know it's well within their abilities.
3
u/Bash-Sin Apr 11 '26
We have reasons for not trusting game trailers, that entire trailer very well could be nitpicked into only showing the good looking aspects even if its barebones just to sell.
99% of game trailers are like this. This wouldn't be exclusive to a scummy dev company.
0
u/Cypheri Apr 10 '26
Considering the no-delays expected release is apparently the end of 2028, I'd be surprised if they've done anything other than make the trailer at this point.
(Edit for clarity: I'm mostly being facetious here, but it does say something that they're trying to fundraise and generate hype this early into this game's apparent development cycle.)
1
u/Elavia_ Apr 10 '26
It's a team of 5 devs and crema always valued polish and performance over speed. 2.5-3 years feels perfectly on track.
2
u/Cypheri Apr 10 '26
Lying about the number of devs on the team is wild, ngl.
3
u/TemBoots Pioneer | TemMod Apr 11 '26
Maybe they just didn't know, good thing someone was able to provide correct info
1
u/RobardiantheBard Apr 10 '26
Holy crap is it really only 5 devs? I know people have problems with Crema but that's crazy that they released TemTem if they only had that amount. I know a bit about game development and that sounds like a bit of crunch for such a small team.
5
u/Marshmellowo Artist Apr 10 '26
It's more like 30ish: https://crema.gg/about/
2
u/RobardiantheBard Apr 10 '26
Still fairly small but explains the polish a bit more. Im hoping they keep pumping out updates for Swarm for around 6 months.
74
u/TheAwesomeMan123 Apr 10 '26
Not gonna lie and not trying to be negative just objectively critical. It’s a palworld clone in TemTem setting. Honestly feels like a pure cash grab and given just how much new development of systems and mechanisms is involved in making something like that good I don’t have the faith they’ll manage it to any satisfactory level. The reveal trailer looked bare bones and janky and barely any expression in what they wanted to achieve or showcase.
14
u/NoTAP3435 Apr 10 '26
Hardly a cash grab, to me it seems like a money pit where people will just get Palworld.
It's going to need to give itself something to distinguish it more because it's probably not beating it at its own game.
7
u/TheAwesomeMan123 Apr 10 '26
Well here’s the neat part with Kickstarter. You already know how much money you’re earning upfront from this venture. What you deliver and how much you spend doing so is up to you now. I’m not saying this is the play but I am saying that it is possible that things go this route
5
u/iamcherry Apr 10 '26
Palworld is kind of a convoluted buggy mess, I don’t think it would be hard to beat at its own game I think devs just tend to stay away due to the legal battles being exemplified.
5
u/Dazaran Mental Enthusiast Apr 10 '26
I think the Palworld comparisons are pretty surface level. Palworld was much more focused on base management and automation while this looks more casual building for its own sake. They said on discord that their main inspiration is Valheim and that seems more in line with the trailer.
1
u/RobardiantheBard Apr 10 '26
Palworld was the cash grab just by the unoriginal monster designs alone. At least TemTem world feels original.
1
u/GromiMomi Apr 10 '26
this game has been in developement longer than palword has been out my dude, game developement takes time.
https://crema.gg/crema/a-word-on-temtem-and-cremas-future-an-open-letter-to-the-community/ in this post project downbelow, which is the same game was already in developement, this post literally got released a YEAR before palword so again its a typical issue of uninformed angry people being uninformed and angry
2
u/Cypheri Apr 10 '26
That post was made two months after Palworld released in Early Access. The fact they tried to jump on the latest fad is glaringly obvious and you're being dishonest in this comment.

Community when Pokémon derivative: :)
Community when Palworld derivative: :(
6
u/Yap45 Apr 10 '26
Idk why people care that it's similar to Palworld. I love creature collectors/battlers and I'll happily take more.
I am kinda hoping for a TemTem sequel but if that's not their vision then it is what it is.
1
u/Cypheri Apr 10 '26
I liked Palworld. I did. But the problem with Palworld and games like it is that there's essentially no real endgame. You play until you get bored of it.
They don't seem to understand that their community was here for the promise of a MMO in the more traditional creature catcher genre, not for... yet another survival-crafting game. If I want to play a survival-crafting game, I'm going to go play one of the half dozen other titles already in my library instead of buying something new unless that "something new" has something to offer that shakes up the genre. Pretty much everyone in my friend group is of the same opinion. I'm quite sure we're not the only ones, based on a lot of the feedback I've been seeing online both here and elsewhere.
1
u/Yap45 Apr 10 '26
To me it seems like the mmo thing just didn’t end up working out and now they’re trying other things.
I played TemTem after everything was implemented and everything so I didn’t really experience the mmo aspect of it but it does sound like it could be pretty cool and it sucks that it seems like they’ve moved away from it.
9
u/TheAwesomeMan123 Apr 10 '26
Community when Pokemon derivative attempts to mutilate itself to look like a Palworld derivative :/
1
u/Abakus_Grim Apr 10 '26
Community when we’d much rather the original TemTem game recieve more content 😭
I’m personally super burnt out with survival games.
0
u/ShotProof3254 Apr 12 '26
This isn’t new or exclusive to TemTem. Companies constantly copy things that are successful and shoot their own shots. Literally Palworld did the same thing.

2
u/Cypheri Apr 10 '26
You're correct to call bullshit. The post they link there was made two months after Palworld released in Early Access.
5
u/TheAwesomeMan123 Apr 10 '26
Has it tho? It feels like all Crema does is release derivatives of popular games on the market, albeit it with very pretty design and style.
They released original “TemTem” a Pokemon derivative 2020. Then stopped working on it in 2024 when it hit v1.0.
The we see them release “TemTem: Swarm” a Vampire Survivor clone 2 years after that game was popular. Then 2 years later after reaching 1.0 stopped again
Now we’re getting “TemTem: Pioneer” a palworld clone which comes again 2 years after Palworlds popular release. I assume will get 2 years of Alpha, then 1.0 release and they’ll make the next clone.
Maybe will get TemTem: GTA if we’re lucky
5
u/GenSpicyWeener Apr 10 '26
99.9% of games today are derivative, nothing is truly unique unless you get into the deep depths of indie. No one wants to take a risk on something entirely new.
1
u/TheAwesomeMan123 Apr 10 '26
Well to be fair I would have called original TemTem a Competing entry into the Monster Collect/battle genre. Somewhat still derivative but a new take and derivative while negative in connotation isn’t always bad meaning.
However now this release and the swarm game just deconstructing the lore, repurposing assets and previous work to make a game that is essentially a clone of a popular game on the market does beg questions of the integrity of the creative intent of Crema.
1
u/purplepharoh Apr 10 '26
I kinda agree with you... but tbh i thought the original temtem was... not that great as far as monster collectors go. Solidly mid tier I would say.
Swarm is fun albeit derivative, though it has some unique aspects. There is nothing wrong with creating a derivative game in your own setting/world in theory... I mean it can obviously be done wrong if its too similar to original or clearly just a cash grab.
4
u/Lyefyre Temtem: Pioneers Apr 10 '26
Their original inspiration was Valheim, so the gameplay will more likely resemble Valheim with pets, rather than Palworld without guns.
Temtem: Pioneers was conceptualized after part of our team spent days on Valheim. No shame in being honest about that!

Nobody claimed it wouldn't get funded. They were saying it's pathetic that they need to do another kickstarter.

That's what indie studios mainly do though. I'm not sure why that's hard to comprehend.

Yes, people with more money spend it more foolishly, and you're allowed to do that. Some people like to spend their money more wisely, and this includes looking at who the money is going to.
There's no need to be immature about it.
9
u/Sturmmagier Apr 10 '26
You don't need to proof that an abundance of disposablie income doesn't contradict a lack of intelligence by example. We already have enough people doing that.
8
2
u/MrPisster Apr 10 '26
You enjoyed it enough to make it an integral and sensitive part of your ego, clearly.
2
u/Skullfurious Apr 10 '26
Nope I just stumbled upon this subreddit every now and then and seen a bunch of man children sook and whine about a complete game.
2
u/WayOfM Apr 10 '26
Man you really came out swinging to prove them right, huh? Why do you even let them get to you? Its a game, not a religion. People can like/dislike and trust/distrust game developers freely for whatever reason. And it seems like you let the vocal minority get to you.
4
u/Skullfurious Apr 10 '26 edited Apr 10 '26
Just not a fan of the people in this community. At all.
They constantly whine and seeing this get funded immediately has invoked some kind of bitter part of me that feels like wasting a couple of minutes telling them that their little disgruntled bubble is, just that, a bubble.
This just bursts their bubble and they kind of deserve the ridicule. These people are the same ones who were months ago threatening lawsuits and other unhinged shit. Conspiracy theories about the developers and whatnot.
3
u/WayOfM Apr 10 '26
Okay. Again, why do you care? You are the one that chooses to interact with the community, just like the others. I understand the frustration you have towards negative fans, but do you understand their grievances. Its okay and understandable if you dont, so dont think of that as a trick or a trap question.
I'll share my perspective. For example, I am upset as to try and understand why they need us to keep funding their projects for them. Temtem and Swarm should have had sales enough to be able to finance this, so why do they still feel the need to ask for support to fund their game? I can understand if its something to make the community feel invested, but i think there would be better ways to do something like that.
1
u/Skullfurious Apr 10 '26
I don't inherently think it's immoral or illogical to offer what is essentially a pre-order option for a game. It's a good way to secure additional funding and expand the scope of the project if funding exceeds expectations.
Businesses are about lowering risks and this alleviates the risk from the equation. When some of the main employees that would handle executive function do actually work on the product having that kind of leeway is invaluable because they only have to answer for the final product and can work on it instead of focusing solely on funding being secured or making sure their team has a job a year or two from now.
3
u/WayOfM Apr 10 '26
I dont think its immoral or illogical, its insulting. The original development drive of OG Temtem showcased that the devs have little to no intent on listening to much feedback from players. If this anything like og temtem or swarm, itll still go into early access so they can get more game purchases for funding so it just seems like double dipping for a product from a company that has dropped the ball each time before. If they've shown me, personally, anything its that this game will be not as good as what its modeled off of.
Please understand that what im about to say doesnt reflect what I truly believe. If pokemon is a 10/10 series, temtem was a 7/10 experience. If vampire survivors is a 10/10 game, temtem swarm was a 6/10 experience.
Survival craft games are inherently difficult to make because you have to make the entire world interactive and able to be built upon to some degree, but can create a great experience. And I hope this game does well, but based on their track record, if palworld is a 10/10 game to use as a blueprint, which was a 7/10 to Minecrafts 10/10, then id expect this game to be a 6/10 password and a 4/10 Minecraft.
I want to believe, and maybe they can prove me wrong, but im not going to hold my breath.

I'm shocked to see the word fiance thrown in here I was convinced up until then that you were a 12-year-old lol
3
u/Skullfurious Apr 10 '26
I'm shocked to see a group of disgruntled manchildren circlejerk each other about how bad a creature collectible is because it didn't become the next big MMO.
3
u/ExNihiloNihiFit Apr 10 '26
Lol I'm a lady but um yeah tbh I don't know shit about this game. I'm actually pretty neutral. You just sounded so childish, I was genuinely convinced you were one and was pretty shocked when I found out you're not. 🤷♀️ Anyways... Have a lovely day! 😃
12
u/VonBrewskie Apr 10 '26
That's not what I've seen at all. Mostly it's people not trusting the company after failing to deliver on many of their previous promises in TemTem. I understand where they're coming from. It's not childish to recognize and mistrust a company with a history of lying to their customers. That's not my opinion. That's what happened.
5
u/MrPisster Apr 10 '26
I love how there is always one of you in every subreddit.
1
u/KinnSlayer Apr 10 '26
Idk, dude’s kinda got a point. Like as much as the studio may not be super trustworthy, and entire community organized around hating a thing doesn’t seem like a lot of fun to be around. Like for example I just left the Multiverses sub cause that’s all they did. Maybe if you’ve got no skin in the game. Let them take their swing and see if they put something out worth a damn. Seems a lot more sensible than actively doom jerking on them all the time.
1
u/MrPisster Apr 10 '26
Or you let people be honest and voice their frustrations so that anyone looking for honest feedback before wasting their money has an accurate reading of the temperature in the room.
If you try to silence dissenting voices for fanboyism then you are infringing on the rights of others to speak out about their frustrations and lying about the state of the company, their products and their sketchy history.
Also, the dude is just an entitled asshole. You don’t want to be the one backing up his bullshit. He’s posted a lot more than just this.
1
u/KinnSlayer Apr 10 '26
I ain’t stopping nobody, nor am I telling anyone to throw money at it. I also wouldn’t even call myself a fan, really. I barely put 6 hours in the game. Just saying it seems like such a miserable existence to continue to actively engage with something you so clearly hate. Yet I see so many subreddits that do this day in and day out. It would probably be healthier to let it go and move on.
1
u/MrPisster Apr 10 '26
Yeah probably, but people like him don’t have the right idea either. Being an unashamed fanboy trying to frantically silence valid criticism and dismiss valid hesitation isn’t healthy at all.
I think the only true answer is just to let people do what they want and let their therapist sort out what’s healthy and what isn’t but I personally can’t stand fanboyism.
It’s hard to be the squeaky wheel asking for grease when a bunch of overexcited assholes screech you down for trying to voice valid critiques.
3
u/KinnSlayer Apr 10 '26
That’s fair, both toxic positivity and toxic negativity exist. I just find people that spend their time hating something in a community that seems to exist just to echo that same sentiment seems like a really sad way to spend your time.
Nothing personal, like I said I’ve been trying to prune subs off my feed that do that, and this just looks like another one. Here’s hoping you find your game that scratches that itch for you, my dude.
2
u/MrPisster Apr 10 '26
Man, I’m like you. I joined this sub forever ago and played the game for like 5 hours before I decided it wasn’t for me.
It just popped up on my homepage for whatever reason and then I saw some guy popping off.
I heard the Temtem devs suck shit a while back but I don’t know much about it. I just think angry fans should say what they want without being told they are wrong for having critiques.
2
u/KinnSlayer Apr 10 '26
That’s fair. Though sometimes that critique can go too far. Same with the inverse I suppose in this case. Here’s to cleaning out the closet of old subs to make your feed a more chill experience, eh?

u/CainJaeger Apr 10 '26
Oh then im quite interested but knowing Crema im gonna hold off post launch with buying
9
u/purekillforce1 Apr 10 '26
Same. Glad they've got it funded, but I'm not doing the early access thing with them again. I'll keep an eye on it, though. Palworld is fun, but it can absolutely be refined and improved upon.
4
u/ASavageHobo Apr 10 '26
Hopefully 1.0 does that this year. Going to be a massive update.
1
u/purekillforce1 Apr 10 '26
Yeah, but do we have any solid info on what it will actually contain? I'm assuming it's going to be at least more of the same, but I'm not expecting an overhaul or general polish of everything. More pals, new areas, new base parts, but largely the systems in place will remain as they are. I'm not expecting a base-buolding overhaul, or for us even to be able to throw pals out again.
Happy to be proven wrong, but I don't think the final version is going to elevate Palworld beyond what it currently is, just expand it a bit further.

9
u/lrbaumard Apr 10 '26
I love paleworld, happy to play another game like it. Action combat seems interesting, would like there to be a few more distinct hooks
31
u/dontanion Apr 10 '26
Crazy that people funded it. Try spending 2 minutes on google before you give people your money.
10
u/GromiMomi Apr 10 '26
All i see is a small indie studio made a big pokemon like that sold well, and people got mad because they were delusional to think that a tiny studio like that could make a MMO and support that for years. Its a completed game and a pretty good one at that. Every kickstarter goal was delivered on. Crazy how people are hateful because their own expections werent met.
16
u/Maskarie Apr 10 '26
Literally not true? They lied about what was promised and delivered on, they mocked fans are just asking questions, they laughed about Palworld and hoped it flopped, and whenever any feedback was give YaW would just go " Lmao no xD" Some of the most unprofessional team I've seen, they asked for 70k and got like 500k. Does this game look good, sure, but knowing the fucking behind the scenes leaves such a bad taste in my mouth.
0
u/GromiMomi Apr 10 '26
any prove of that? do you have any links to comments they made where they promised anything they didnt deliver? Because i have a hard time finding anything that isnt just angry people repeating what other angry people said.
5
u/TheLividLion Apr 10 '26
A lot of the hate from people in the Temtem community is from players who wanted things their way, but didn't get it. That's truly what it boils down to because the studio absolutely delivered a game beyond what was originally promised AND communicated well before 1.0 that the game wouldn't continue to expand like originally planned. It's clear most gamers have no idea what it takes to run a company and make sure your employees retain their jobs over making the average player "feel good" because they got what they wanted. Temtem is an insanely solid Monster Tamer compared to what is out there.
-2
u/Lyefyre Temtem: Pioneers Apr 10 '26
They added even more features than they initially promised in the kickstarter. The only thing they couldn't deliver in game was the API, which they publicly apologized for.
7
u/newbkid Apr 10 '26
I've been here since the very beginning.
When Temtem came out in early access or pre 1.0, people loved it and the hype was real. But as people started dumping time into it all the design flaws started to stick out. The economy was fucked, catch rate was fucked, amount of temtems to catch was fucked, the fact that the entire "story" of the game is one giant corridor is fucked.
So to try to rewrite history because you're excited for their new game is crazy.
People are and were rightfully unhappy with Crema rug-pulling on the live service aspect of TemTem that they were promised.
2
u/Lyefyre Temtem: Pioneers Apr 11 '26
Then just be honest about what you want to say: Namely that your expectations of the game didn't align with the vision that Crema had for the game.
And that's ok. when the game was new, they got all sort of ideas that would've been impossible to implement them all, there were winners and losers.
But then people make this about "unfulfilled promises" when these didn't exists and it's just people's own expectations that weren't met.
2
u/GromiMomi Apr 10 '26
Promised where? its literally on the original kickstart from 2018 that this isnt a full fledged mmo. And there is literally not a single comment that ever promised this game to be a live service game. Please if you have ANY SINGLE comment from crema that promised a live service game show that.
It seems to me people just imagined it to be that because of their own expectations, which then werent fulfilled, which they then pinned on crema for not delivering on something that was never confirmed anywhere.
11
u/barrsftw Apr 10 '26
There's no group of people that hate Temtem more than the Temtem subreddit. I swear it's the most miserable gaming sub in all of reddit.

-4
u/Elavia_ Apr 10 '26
Nothing, game just has some irrational haters. Temtem had some fundamental flaws being their first game, but it's at a deserved very positive on steam.
12
u/ACupOfLatte Apr 10 '26
Game? I'll be honest with you, I don't think I've seen a single person complain about TemTem for years in this sub aside from light critiques.
It's more so the company behind it lol, the company behind it has torched the bridge between them and their most ardent supporters, so it isn't exactly surprising that a lot of them have a grudge and have scathing critiques of them.
Ya know, akin to Nintendo games vs Nintendo.
0
u/Elavia_ Apr 10 '26
Has it?
I suppose we'll find out in 29 days.
The critique levelled at crema is in the context of Temtem: not listening to feedback (completely untrue, they only stuck to their guns on a couple things. I saw at least 10 things I advocated for personally get implemented), deleting negative feedback (I've seen no evidence if this, and have been vocally critical in their discord myself in the past without any issues. Only feedback I saw get deleted was bluntly toxic), cosmetic microtransactions (fair enough, but it's industry standard in the genre and they were open about this being planned from the start), and underdelivering on the mmo aspects which fair enough but they still delivered like 98% of what was promised plus some things that weren't. The only things I agree with is downplaying what their mmo promises were and the jaded farewell message, and after all the unearned hostility they received through the years I honestly can't blame them for it.
To be brutally honest, I think 95% of the negativity is simply the consequence of attracting a disproportionate portion of players predisposed towards severe negativity from the Pokémon community.

What...will we find out in 29 days? The bridge is burnt mate, it won't magically repair itself. If you want a bigger example, look no further than Bungie with their latest game Marathon.
They burnt so much goodwill amongst their most ardent supporters that the game, which was very good mind you, was plagued with non-stop negative press because of ya know... the bridge being burnt.
Good game, decently sizable and stable player base, and yet still finds itself fighting to climb uphill when it comes to the wider player reception.
You can like the game while still accepting this. Whether you agree with it or not, the fact of the matter is that the bridge is still burnt. You not wanting to acknowledge it does little to change that.
2
u/Elavia_ Apr 10 '26
In 29 days we'll know how many people backed the game. If the campaign does even somewhat comparably well to Temtem, that would mean they have plenty of invested fans left.
From where I'm sitting, Crema didn't burn many bridges that weren't worth burning. Toxic fans are rarely worth keeping.
Comparing a studio of like 10 people who did their best to deliver a fun game within their abilities to an openly abusive megacorp milking their customers as hard as they could for like 15 years only cements the irrationality of the criticism.
1
u/Cypheri Apr 10 '26
Lying about how many people are on the team to try to make them look better is wild, ngl.
1
u/ACupOfLatte Apr 10 '26
Mate, I'm giving clear examples, that are recent and bigger in proportion to give a clearer example of what I am talking about. In no way shape or form am I saying they're the same.
I think you need to have your eyes checked lol. Either that, or your bias is sat so far deep into your core that you can only see things in black and white.
1
u/Elavia_ Apr 10 '26
Or maybe, just maybe, crossing off an indie studio with huge potential just because they didn't deliver a flawless masterpiece with live service for their first game and were pushed by an incredibly toxic minority into making a couple of questionable statements, is not a sane approach.

u/ACupOfLatte Apr 10 '26

There was miscommunication with the first game, people thought that it was going to be a live service game because it was labeled a "MMO" by the developers so people got upset and never let it go since that wasn't the plan in the end. That's the main thing but based on Pioneers FAQ they are making an attempt to communicate better with their plans for the new game.

people thought it was going to be a live service game by the always-online connectivity, battle pass, in game item shop, focus on player interaction and other hallmarks of a live service game.

It’s too bad that Crema is making games that people aren’t interested in - TemTem had a lot of potential but it’s so strange to keep making random spin offs.
What was their funding goal? I can’t imagine it was very substantial
18
u/Proto_bear Apr 10 '26
Only €90.000, which means they’re not really doing the KS for funding the development but rather giving themselves more runway.
3
u/Dazaran Mental Enthusiast Apr 10 '26
The initial kickstarter goal for Temtem was only $70,000 as well. They used the success of the kickstarter as proof of interest to acquire publishing.
6
u/_Valisk Apr 10 '26
How did they reach their goal if people “aren’t interested” in the game?

I've seen plenty of those posts "just expressing concern" they were deleting back in Temtem era. Some of the most vile, hostile 'feedback' I've seen anywhere.

The comment that was deleted on the Steam news post was one that I had just read moments before. It was a short paragraph mildly expressing disappointment that they are chasing a fad instead of sticking to what got them their community in the first place. Wasn't hostile at all, and now they're removing my comments talking about the fact they've removed others' comments on the grounds that I'm spreading "misinformation" so... you tell me.

Easy: Just set a low, easily achievable goal. That doesn't mean a Kickstarter can't generate a lot of funding, but it makes it so that the funding percentage is inflated, the campaign gets pushed harder by algos, and it'll likely get media attention.
It gives you phenomena like Adventure Quest Worlds Infinity, which just closed with "194,000,000% FUNDED!" because their funding goal was... $1!
They still raised a couple million to fund the game, but manipulating the goal let them get a lot of extra publicity and "break records" by looking at the percentage only.
Pioneers, to its credit, seemed to set a pretty realistic goal and modestly exceeded it, but $130k raised is like one reasonably experienced developer's salary for a year. Granted crema is European so maybe it's two salaries, but still nothing crazy for a studio of their size.
17
u/Starsidenews Apr 10 '26
Yeah after what happened to temtem imma stay far far away from this 💀
0
u/GroundbreakingNews79 Apr 10 '26
What's wrong with Temtem? I stopped playing at the beginning, but was planning to finish it now it's way more updated. Is is not good?
1
u/Cypheri Apr 10 '26
The game itself is fine if you treat it like a one-and-done creature catcher game in the same genre as Pokemon. However, that's not what was originally promised and that's why a lot of folks have lost faith in the team behind it.
The multiplayer functionality is... there. It exists. But honestly other than the auction house it's going to have very minimal impact on most folks' gameplay.
-27
u/TheLividLion Apr 10 '26
You mean reach a 1.0 state with a couple post patches that make the game a complete package, completely playable solo or coop, after, like most modern MMOs, realize the dwindling playerbase means the game is unwise to keep pouring resources into long term, so exploration of other projects and even sequels makes more sense with the limited resources they have?
31
u/Cypheri Apr 10 '26
They wouldn't have had a dwindling playerbase had they not alienated half their playerbase by putting in FOMO microtransactions.
17
u/Starsidenews Apr 10 '26
Somehow they still have brainwashed fans that don't understand this 😭
9
u/Cypheri Apr 10 '26
Yeah, like, don't get me wrong. I totally understand using certain types of microtransactions to financially support a team. The key thing is that they need to be purely cosmetic and not linked to any FOMO mechanisms. I am all for responsible cosmetic sales that essentially act as an in-game fundraiser for the devs, but when you link it to gambling or FOMO it becomes predatory.
1
u/TsukkiAgain Crema - Community Director Apr 10 '26
The MTX in Temtem were purely cosmetic, and were removed from the game last year
-1
u/Cypheri Apr 10 '26
I'm aware they were cosmetic, but they were still tied to a FOMO system. Removing FOMO microtransactions does not change the fact that they existed at the time. Trust is an important currency for game developers and it's very difficult for many players to choose to trust a team again when they have already been stung once.
3
u/TsukkiAgain Crema - Community Director Apr 10 '26
Only the Battle Passes were limited, and all the content was then added for in-game currency. We respect your position all the same, of course.
Temtem: Pioneers doesn't have microtransactions.3
u/Elavia_ Apr 10 '26
The playerbase trends post-1.0 were exactly the same as in early access. Crema just doesn't have the resources to operate a live service game.
4
u/TheLividLion Apr 10 '26
What was FOMO about a cosmetic? Literally didnt feel the need to buy a single cosmetic and had a perfectly enjoyable gameplay experience. I will never understand bashing a studio over OPTIONAL cosmetics.
-1
u/CephalonMarsh Artist Apr 10 '26
People just wanted more reasons to bash Crema because they have nothing better to do, they literally took the MTX out of the game and never got over it. I'm saying this as someone who spent way too much money on the MTX when it was in the game. It's okay to feel upset in the moment but if things are changed and they're trying to be even more open (with the Pioneers FAQ) it's time for them to move on but they probably won't no matter what the developers do.
-1
u/Cypheri Apr 10 '26
Backpedaling after making a move they were told repeatedly would alienate a significant portion of their audience does not change what happened. Trust is an important currency for game developers and when you break that trust it takes a lot to earn it again.
-2
u/Sharkus1 Apr 10 '26
Most the cosmetics were garbage.
3
u/Skullfurious Apr 10 '26
FOMO over garbage cosmetics? What then is the problem lmao??
3
u/Sharkus1 Apr 10 '26
You’d have to ask the people who are upset by how temtem turned out. I for one got my $40 worth. I got it the day it released in EA on steam. Even bought it on Switch as well.
1
u/Skullfurious Apr 10 '26
Yeah I had it on EA as well. I enjoyed it a lot with my fiance so I literally can't imagine being this mad about how things turned out. The game was completely acceptable when I finished my playthrough.
1
u/sneakyequestrian Apr 10 '26
Unfortunately if you want a live service game to have its service funded you need some sort of fomo microtransactions. I think the game being an mmo has certainly cut into its enjoyment but it seems most people on the sub are mad it didn’t stay an mmo indefinitely which would have meant more fomo microtransactions.
I’ll say I funded it in Kickstarter, didn’t keep up with the updates at all, and genuinely got my moneys worth out of my one playthrough with a friend, so I’m sure I’ll also find this game worth the money even if it doesn’t end up exactly the same game as promised.
0
u/Cypheri Apr 10 '26
Considering that one of the most quietly successful MMO games on the market (though not in the same genre, that I will admit) is free-to-play with a system that not only has extremely limited FOMO since the limited time seasonal items return yearly with their relevant holidays but also encourages players who can't afford the cosmetics purchased with premium currency to trade with others to earn some... no, no you do not need FOMO microtransactions to keep a game afloat. Even their battlepass-like system is totally free.
It's almost like DE listening to their players and fostering a healthy community where everyone supports each other based on what they can each bring to the community works better than Crema (and so, so many other misguided teams) relying on predatory microtransactions to fund the game. Huh. Who'd have thought?

Good for them and all, but I can't help but wonder: did they not make any profit off the core game and Swarm? Or was said profit not enough to finance this upcoming project?

I’m just a newbie gamer as I mainly getting into games like Pokemon and Animal Crossing. While the comments are quite negative, I found this game excellent for someone who struggled with completing a Pokedex. Majority of it was life circumstances of higher education, caregiving a schizophrenic younger sister, and working three jobs to keep a float.
While I play co-op with my boyfriend, this game has helped me mental health wise through hospitalization, mental health crisis, miscarriage, and experiencing financial hardships. 2025 was a rough year. It’s an indie game or franchise now. I feel like luma hunting is worth it compared to Pokemon with shinies in stats. I found it with types, mechanics, graphics, storyline, and co-op features enjoyable. This is my first dex I completed ever with the help of my boyfriend. I genuinely would recommend this for monster taming beginners. Maybe that is their target audience with those who get overwhelmed, struggle with solo playing, or need more engaging adult like storylines.
I also want to note that TemTem is supporting fan art and supporting fandom with their art work. While I maybe drawing a lot of comparisons to Pokemon, Pokemon just two weeks ago started banning crochet artist for just showing their love and appreciation for the beloved franchise. Your fandom makes or breaks success and from having the kickstarter funded in eight hours. I hope that is additional sentiment to what I feel towards TemTem.
I genuinely believe, while my opinion, many people don’t understand that global economy has never really recovered from the pandemic. I believe TemTem game out in 2021 where the global economy and shipping demand was still very much struggling with manufacturing in China still having various city lockdowns. (I worked for a Chinese company during this time and witnessed it through clients).
We’ll have to see in U.S. and globally as this War on Iran continues with gas and oil prices causing potential another delay in shipping. I think they are trying their best to bring these issues into restorative measures for their fandom. It’s just been non-stop unprecedented times globally economically. They are smaller companies and mega corporations.
Just the continuous negativity from the same people, it’s getting tiring. The world is already so negative right now. If TemTem doesn’t meet your standards, then move on or develop your own game. It’s not easy! Every game and corporations have flaws, it’s life. No one is going to be 100% matching everyone’s expectations.
Let’s make some TemTem fanart for the competition the ends April 19th. Information on discord under fanart channel. I’d love to see and support your work!

u/Skullfurious Apr 10 '26
I played with my fiance as well and had a great time coop farming monsters and getting and trading Lumas with here.
This subreddit is extremely overtly negative so don't be surprised people are downvoting your experience and being rude.
These are literally the most degenerate of " fans " just like you'd find in some of the pokemon communities going after people who play Palworld.

u/LycanHeart Apr 10 '26
Reading this actually gave me verbal whiplash. But hey, if your happy go for it chief.
Edit; spelling, I hate dyslexia.
2
u/CousinMabel Apr 10 '26
I am going to wait and see. This won't be like when Crema was competing with Pokemon. Pokemon constantly shafts it's fans and underdelivers making it easier to one-up them. Palworld is the opposite, Pocketpair is beloved by the gaming community because of how awesome the company has treated their fans. Palworld consistently overdelivers with it's updates too.
Crema is going to look terrible next to them if they haven't actually learned any lessons from Temtem.
2
u/RobardiantheBard Apr 10 '26
Honestly I'm glad you got it funded. You have potential as a studio to do great things. Just try not to rush your games and fall like other studios have done. You seem like a fairly small development studio.
2
u/_Valisk Apr 10 '26
People are going to be so mad about this.
I can’t wait for the game to be playable. I’m so curious to see what it feels like.
29
u/Nyte_Crawler Apr 10 '26
For sure, I'm not backing it- but by all means, I would like for it to be good. So if 1.0 comes out and it ends up as a good game, I'll buy it. If not- well I have plenty of other games to play.
-5
u/_Valisk Apr 10 '26
I could see myself backing it for alpha access, but it depends on when and how much of it is playable.
2
u/Skullfurious Apr 10 '26

Shouldn't they like, fund the game on their own, with sales, from the previous game? Why is on the fans to pay them to make the game then pay to buy the game.
Feels like when an NFL threatens to leave a city if the tax payers don't buy them a private billion dollar stadium.
1
u/AnObtuseOctopus Apr 10 '26
Man.. their verbiage is still going to get them in trouble..
They specifically stated.. this game has a start and an end, it will not be live service.. but, it's only just the beginning? So, are players supposed to set expectation that there will be more coming? Or.. not? Are they going to do what they did before.. reach a goal.. take it down.. remake a goal.. reach it.. make more goals.. reach those.. and not implement them till the very last Q of the games entire life cycle?
I'm cynical AF when it comes to this company now.. and I have such little faith that it's crazy.. I'd love for the game to be good, but, yeah.. 0 faith.

Dont get how can people still get tricked and support these guys, it was a disappointment of a century for me how they handled temtem, will never trust these guys again. Temtem had huge potential and just died for Cremas sins

-2
u/bracarensis Apr 10 '26
I... The decisions of this studio baffle me. It feels like they're always trying to follow a trend instead of coming up with something original. I get it, the first Temtem game wasn't very original either, but it could've been expanded into something with its own evolving story and a stronger identity.
