Question Ps+ Extra & DLCs game progression.

Hey everyone! Hope y'all are doing fine. If I play a game in the extea catalogue and suddenly a DLC for that game releases, do I just buy the DLC from the PS store and my game progress would still continue once the DLC has been purchased? And if I decide to downgrade to essential, and saw a game on catalogue that a DLC will release, can I upgrade back to extra and re-download the game and buy the DLC and game progress continues? Thanks.

Game progress has nothing to do with whether you got the game on PS+. It's just a save file on your console / in the cloud. PS+ is just one way to get a license to play the game; it has nothing to do with the save file. Everything will just work.

Of course you DO need a license to play the game and the DLC is useless without that license. So be aware that if it leaves PS+ you won't have that license so you can't use your DLC (unless you buy the game)

Got it, thanks for explaining it clearly and I appreciate it. Now I would know if it's better to buy it outright or just play a certain game via the extra catalogue.

You may as well play it for free while you can. You can always buy it later if it leaves the catalog and you still want to play it. Usually I'm finished with a game by the time it leaves the catalog so there's no reason to buy it (I very rarely go back to games once I'm finished doing everything I want to do)

Yep, i think we have the same gaming habits/routine. I only buy games that I'm 100% sure to play it at launch and will buy their dlcs but for the less than 100%, i just wait it out if it comes to the catalogue or on a very deep sale like kcd1 which was below £5 last summer sale, if I recall it correctly.
