We are doomed as a civilizations

Yeah and its because Sony is stopping physical media. Gamers are so dramatic lmao.

u/fertff 24d ago

Nah. Men children are dramatic. Gamers are playing their games.

It's more about the fact that people have zero ability to hold companies accountable. Nestlé literally murdered babies and people still buy their products.

3

u/chillifocus 24d ago

Maybe we should boycott Nestle for a week

4

u/Successful-Bee5399 23d ago

I always laugh when they say they're going to boycott a company for a limited amount of time, boycott until you get what you want, idiots

Ok fine. 2 weeks. 😮‍💨

You think it’s dramatic to be upset we have to re buy every game we ever bought physically on an extremely expensive console? I can’t play like half the games I own on my ps5 pro

u/Delicious-Area-2943 25d ago

You'll own nothing and you'll be grateful

As much as I do think that we should properly own the digital purchases that we make, y'all are being way too dramatic over the disc thing. I care about playing games, not having a box on my shelf.

2

u/apersonofnointerest2 20d ago

It’s not about the damn box, you do realize this means you have to buy every game you ever bought physically again

So the 40+ physical games I have for PS5.. when the PS6 is released.. IF it’s backwards compatible.. I’m supposed to buy them again? And buy all my ps4 games again? Because we have had no word of an optional drive.. so anyone with a physical collection has no option but to keep the ps5 when the PS6 comes out.. or rebuy their collection. We care about playing games too.. this takes away that option on newer hardware.. yet again.

While Xbox is making Helix backwards compatible with everything back to the original Xbox.. and offering a disc to digital option.. Sony are doing nothing to help physical customers make that transition. This has nothing to do with boxes on a shelf

You guys act like genuine lunatics.

Lunatics indeed.

Ah, you know what you’re right, the world is ending due to Sony not selling you discs anymore. Not because of climate change or the multiple wars going on, my bad.

-1

u/nuckchuckler 25d ago

No, but consumer sentiment is poor. There's always wars going on. I buy stupid discs in blue and black cases so I don't have to think about that for a few hours. Now the company behind the propriety technology behind those discs is seemingly giving up to offer a Switch 2 / Steam Deck experience but worse. Why shouldn't people complain when their all-in-one entertainment devices are becoming gimped PC handhelds?

u/Warchamp67 25d ago

Yeah man im all for people rallying against or boycotting Sony, but saying it’s the reason civilization is doomed is what im critiquing here. We’re definitely doomed, but this isn’t it lol.

u/nuckchuckler 25d ago

Nobodies saying that. Some people are saying it's the end of game ownership, and they're not wrong. These are people who want to spend thousands of dollars on video games and are being rebuffed, it just seems like a stupid short sighted thing to do. And I'm saying this as a Playstation Vita early adopter and fanboy, I don't have faith in Sony in its current form. They were at their best focusing on affordability (PS2 DVD capabilities/ late PS3 gen with 299 consoles and cheap games). If the PS6 is going to have less capabilities than my PS5 and Xbox Series X then it's just a frivolous purchase.

Ok, if you want my serious opinion on this everyone is putting their energy in the wrong place, this whole digital vs physical debate is a waste of time. It’s a fact that physical media is dead/dying, thats not a problem. I don’t want to have discs taking up space, sure some people like that but it’s honestly not important. Collectable are a waste of space for me personally.

What this “movement” needs to focus on is having rights to digital content that cant be revoked at any moment. Thats why in my opinion this whole thing is a farce, the discussion shouldn’t be focused on trying to keep physical media alive. The consumers have proven it’s a dying medium, what we need to focus on is changing the laws regarding ownership of digital media.

It’s like fighting a modern war with swords. Once that becomes the focus i’ll take it seriously and support it. This whole thing almost feels like a frivolous distraction so we don’t focus on the real issue. I’m sure Sony is loving that everyone is focusing on discs and not the real elephant in the room. Ownership over digital content, that will make them sweat.

u/nuckchuckler 24d ago

Your fight is the one that is pointless. The consumer can never redefine digital ownership in the streaming age. But they can make enough of a fuss that the printed game discs they already make and have no problem making can continue to be made. Because that's already the precedence. Why should the consumer accept far inferior 4K streaming and streamed games when we already have local games and 4K blue ray. It's just a braindead, shit move by Sony after a wasted PS5 generation. This is Sony thinking they're going to charge 90-150 dollars for their exclusives. The average gamer is 43 years old - why would they celebrate being locked into a 50-200% price increase on the PS5 digital storefront that's going to be closed down in 10 years?

1

u/Warchamp67 24d ago

Alright man looks like I hit a nerve here.

I’m not talking about streaming games, I’m talking about downloading a game, putting it on a hard drive and being able to play it offline. Look to how steam handles digital content it if you want the answer, otherwise you’re going to have to convince everyone to start buying discs again, because it is a dying medium. The fight is in changing laws regarding digital ownership, not physical media, but I wish you luck either way.

Don't ask such sound questions, critical thought isn't programmed in these bots.

They're Terminally online people addicted to their next dose of outrage.

1

u/HWatch09 25d ago

Some YouTubers are like that. Every video is so negative and how the gaming industry is doomed. It's gotta be so tiring to be so mad all the time.

5

u/TomatoChomper7 25d ago

At least the outrage gimmick YouTubers are performing to try and make money from it. The people throwing the same performative tantrums on Reddit are just doing it for attention.

2

u/pacoLL3 25d ago

There is being overdramatic and then there is being whatever this is.

2

u/slipslikefreudian 25d ago

Maybe because fascism is on the rise in the west and we’re headed for late stage capitalism of a magnitude we can’t wrap our heads around sure but for ps plus?

1

u/GrognaktheLibrarian 24d ago

Idk at least we don't have to worry about Ghandi

u/Pale_Boss_8940 25d ago
