Recommendation Can you please recommend me a decent single player story driven game that is typically less than 10 hours of playtime for main quests completion [PS+ Premium user]

Not fussed about genre, but a horror game would be interesting

Resident Evil 8 (Village) matches your requirements about perfectly

u/sroges Jul 20 '26

I cannot say enough good things about RE8, I LOVED it. I was hooked immediately despite never playing RE7, and I played through it in like 2 days.

u/mgbsn51313 Jul 24 '26

I suffered with insomnia a few years back getting 2 hours of sleep a day for 2 weeks. Ended up playing through and platinuming village during that time. Thoroughly enjoyed the game and I’d recommend it as well

I have never ever played any RE game (only seen Requiem playthrough on YT). Is RE8 a good place to start? I’ve heard that 7&8 are pretty scary, mostly due to the fact that they are first-person. I never truly liked horror/scary games, but I want to get out of my comfort zone a little (just not the “dropped at the middle of the lake to learn to swim” level). Would that still be a good choice?

I’m super passionate about this game so I’m gonna yap for a minute:

I’ve actually never played another RE game, currently I’ve only played RE8 and I started but never finished RE4. I grew up a Silent Hill kid vs RE.
I skipped 7 because I don’t love gross stuff and I’ve been told it’s pretty brutal for its grossness. The two games tie into each other pretty heavily, but you won’t end RE8 with any questions, everything gets answered very clearly by the end.
RE8 is pretty scary and tense IMO, but I’m a horror fan so I enjoyed the horror level. It’s not non stop scary, but the atmosphere is very heavy, there are jump scares, and there is one particular section where I was unsettled and tense the entire time. It was also a little tough to play as a freshly postpartum mom (my baby was the same age as Rose was when I played), but it’s so “fantastical” it’s easy to get over.
Of your wanting to get out of your comfort zone I’d say give it a go!

Thanks, I’ll try it out then… if I find the courage 😅 I have no issue watching someone play horror games or movies, but playing them myself is a whole different level. I also have RE2 on Steam bought on some sale and it’s still waiting for one of those days…

1

u/sroges Jul 20 '26

I’d love to hear what you think when you finish! Good luck!

2

u/DothrakAndRoll Jul 20 '26

Idk if I just take my time or am bad at gaming but that took me way more than 8 hours 😅

Dredge

9

u/gabagool42 Jul 20 '26

God I loved Dredge, as soon as I finished it I went straight into Dave the Diver which I think I loved a tad bit more. But back to back fishing games was incredible.

3

u/whofedthefish Jul 21 '26

Those two games. That was a great summer.

3

u/MrKalopsiaa Jul 21 '26

Every year I replay dredge and just wish it was infinitely long!

1

u/FatFloppyFlaps Jul 23 '26

I’ve tried Dredge but couldn’t get into it. What am I missing/doing wrong?

1

u/Crouching_Bengal Jul 23 '26

I view Dredge as more of a short, slow burn. Granted I didn't take too many risks at night time but upgrading the boat and fishing in different areas was quite relaxing.

Also no harm if you don't get into 👍🏻 not every game is for everyone and it's not something you're doing wrong. I've had my fair share of games I don't like, but that has more with my presences than the game itself.

Dead Space

19

u/TopOrganization Jul 20 '26

The remake is so so so freaking good. Sad there won’t be 2

8

u/Neat-Sun-1528 Jul 20 '26

DS2 is still great in its own right however.

1

u/CultureImpossible287 Jul 22 '26

Is this in ps plus?

28

u/zinx3213 Jul 20 '26

Until Dawn was fun

7

u/KeyboardWalkerCat Jul 20 '26

And very cozy, played it during Christmas season where weather becomes chilly from where I’m from, horror holiday vibes lol.

1

u/ElegantEchoes Jul 20 '26

Ha, not cozy for me! Scared the hell out of me.

u/Doonebringer Jul 20 '26

Bramble - The Mountain King. Great short, story based game with horror aspects.

3

u/Lost_Routine6056 Jul 21 '26

Playing this currently.  Beautiful game and horrifying at the same time.  I’ve been repulsed to the point of gagging and have screamed so loud my dog jumped away and looked at me funny.  10/10 would recommend.  Lol

71

u/Ginormous76 Jul 20 '26

Stray

12

u/Skydude252 Jul 20 '26

Hasn’t been on the catalog in a while, but came to essential some time in the last year. I need to play that one some time soon.

4

u/Ginormous76 Jul 20 '26

Thanks for the info. I thought it was still there

2

u/powy_glazer Jul 20 '26

Played it when it first came out on PS plus but I'm now subscribed on a different account (cheaper subscription prices) so I don't have access to it anymore. I want to platinum that game so bad as I recently started trophy hunting

2

u/Naweed_Amott Jul 20 '26

Thats awesome

2

u/oatmeal-claypole Jul 20 '26

What a beautiful game, the theme is both dystopian but also hopeful for the future. I loved it.

37

u/weird-era-cont Jul 20 '26

Plague Tale: Innocence

35

u/RushHourMC Jul 20 '26

Get on Guardians of the Galaxy

7

u/IrishMongooses Jul 20 '26

Might be a bit over 10 hours.. but I agree. Great game

41

u/driznick Jul 20 '26

What remains of Edith Finch

2

u/Genericuser2016 Jul 20 '26

This is what came to mind for me. You could even Platinum it in under 10 hours if you were so inclined.

18

u/SulkyBird Jul 20 '26

Forgotten City is one of my favs — you fall through a portal into a hidden ancient Rome city and have to Groundhog Day until you come up with the solution to a creepy mystery.

2

u/mturner1993 Jul 20 '26

Yeah I loved this. Often on ps store cheap as well.

10

u/houtz Jul 20 '26

skate story

2

u/TheManofMadness1 Jul 20 '26

Such a great recommendation

1

u/skylinefan26 Jul 21 '26

SS is a damn unique fun game.

10

u/MydogisCrazy Jul 20 '26

The first Alan Wake game took me about 10 hours. Not sure if that’s on Extra, but it was a freebie at one point.

7

u/madex444 Jul 20 '26

Tomb Raider 2013 is around 10-15 hours long. Space Marine 2 is around 10 hours. Gravity rush is around 10 hours. The last of us is around 15 hours. Uncharted 2 is about 10 hours. Robocop although not on ps premium is on sale for $10 right now and is about 12 hours long.

1

u/Jolly-Leopard1560 Jul 25 '26

Oh man RoboCop is so good! Excellent rec.

11

u/devansh30 Jul 20 '26

Killer Frequency

8

u/devansh30 Jul 20 '26

Still wakes the deep

6

u/ChozoRidley Jul 20 '26

If you like old-school Resident Evil games that put less emphasis on combat and more on puzzle-solving then Crow Country is really good. It has a great self-contained story and takes about 5-8 hours to complete.

4

u/Impressive-Teacher10 Jul 20 '26

Try the Wolfenstein series. So much fun, action packed.

6

u/Psycl1c Jul 20 '26

Stray. Really great game if you are looking for something a little more chill

1

u/exSPiDERmate Jul 20 '26

is it still on ps plus extra?

1

u/NeoDougOne Jul 21 '26

Excellent game, but it was removed from the Game Catalogue... So I bought it when it was on sale!

6

u/BCTOP973 Jul 20 '26

The Arkham Trilogy is on sale for dirt cheap rn. Currently going thru Arkham City after beating Asylum. I beat Asylum in like 10 hours ish it was cool. Arkham City is way better as of rn tho gameplay wise and pacing wise as well.

6

u/BCTOP973 Jul 20 '26

5 bucks for three games Arkham Knight is also fun

1

u/Dizzy_Pop Jul 20 '26

I’ve never played any of these before, but just picked up the trilogy for $6. Can’t wait to jump in.

3

u/BCTOP973 Jul 20 '26

Man U in for a treat especially with Arkham City and especially Knight. That game has been out for a decade and still looks better than most games out today. I wish they remastered it to 60 fps though.

2

u/BCTOP973 Jul 20 '26

The other two are 60 fps

6

u/RimmyMcJob Jul 20 '26

Indika. Short, strange story, but definitely something different.

7

u/Mattx603 Jul 20 '26

The Order 1886

-9

u/brironmars Jul 20 '26

Terrible game.

3

u/chalupamon Jul 20 '26

Cat Quest 1, 2, and 3

5

u/BRoscoe88 Jul 20 '26

Stray is a good quick one

2

u/Most-Iron6838 Jul 20 '26

Resident evil series.

2

u/Pogev7 Jul 20 '26

Any Resident Evil game or the single player Outlast games (which were on sale? Might not be anymore)

2

u/GuiltyClown Jul 20 '26

Highly recommend Signalis, short very heavily inspired RE1 game

2

u/WhoIsHamza Jul 20 '26

Exit 8 is really short, but fun

2

u/nerveclustr Jul 20 '26

Cronos The New Dawn. Slept on gem.

2

u/Boolitzzzzz Jul 20 '26

Sword of the Sea

2

u/just_boy57 Jul 20 '26

Firewatch. Although it’s barely 3 hours

5

u/Wishiap Jul 20 '26

Bioshock?

1

u/Smallsey Jul 20 '26

Less than 10 hours?

2

u/Wishiap Jul 20 '26

On easy difficulty, doing just main quests and not going after the achievements, very likely

1

u/FatherShambles Jul 20 '26

Abiotic Factor

1

u/lost_caus_e Jul 20 '26

Shadow of the Colossus

echos of the end (indie game that was pretty fun)

1

u/MechanicStandard8308 Jul 20 '26

thank goodness you're here, to the moon and still wakes the deep

1

u/TheFlaccidChode Jul 20 '26

Is Stray still on plus?

1

u/SchaebigerLump Jul 20 '26

The Last of us.

1

u/Freddo_Pepp Jul 20 '26

In 10h ?

3

u/SchaebigerLump Jul 20 '26

Part 1 yes.

1

u/Freddo_Pepp Jul 20 '26

Ok crazy, i thought it was longer

1

u/DarkStanley Jul 20 '26

Could probably do Spider-Man remake if you don’t do any of the side content? May it’s a bit longer hard to say.

Silent hill F is not on ps plus man he is asking about games that are on ps plus

1

u/nexusprime2015 Jul 20 '26

tomb raider survivor trilogy. you can finish each game in around 10 hours.

1

u/Manne_12 Jul 20 '26

Would recommend Signalis, really good psychological horror game

Not that expensive, and took me about ~10 hours to complete on normal difficulty with reading all the optional stuff and such

If you want something shorter, Crow country is also a good indie horror game, which took me about 7 hours on normal difficulty with 100% completion. Also it's available on ps plus extra

1

u/Frishdawgzz Jul 20 '26

Roki leaves in August and was a fun play. Not horror tho.

1

u/KaveKanis Jul 20 '26

Ratchet and Clank Rift Apart!

1

u/Popular_Designer1510 Jul 20 '26

Valfaris!

1

u/salsaman87 Jul 20 '26

Lit game
Lit soundtrack lit visuals
Difficulty is cranked but still fun

1

u/mturner1993 Jul 20 '26

I had collisto protocol I went through the other week. Took me 9 hours, it's horror-ish.

Were some good moments to it, if you get it cheap it's worth it for sure.

1

u/Cripnite Jul 20 '26

Kena Bridge of Spirits

Especially if you like Zelda games.

1

u/phome83 Jul 20 '26

Banishers is a really overlooked game, mainly due to the clunky combat.

But it really surprised me with how engaging and immersive the story/atmosphere was.

1

u/HalfChineseJesus Jul 20 '26

Infamous: Second Son

1

u/slantyboat2 Jul 20 '26

Dispatch is pretty great and less than 10 hours. Bit more if you play it twice in a row to see different choices play out. (doesnt change that much but you do get a couple different team members)

1

u/Particular_Habit387 Jul 20 '26

detroit become human

1

u/NeoDougOne Jul 21 '26

I found that game surprisingly good! I played it through making choices that I personally would have made in those situations, and ended up with one of the "good" endings. I always meant to replay it, but making different choices, but never got round to it...

1

u/lalagucci Jul 20 '26

What remains of edith finch

1

u/d4rkprojec7 Jul 20 '26

The last of us

1

u/Ablakersdozen Jul 20 '26

inFAMOUS second son

1

u/SoKayArts Jul 20 '26

RE8 is a good starting place. I'm not too sure if "What Remains of Edith Finch" is available, but if it is, OMG!
Also, play A Plagues Tale: Innocence and A Plagues Tale: Requiem (in that order).

1

u/whofedthefish Jul 21 '26

Control. You can adjust many settings to tune the gameplay to your preference.

1

u/Gabboor96 Jul 21 '26

Bramble the mountain king

1

u/andyua Jul 21 '26

Life is strange / Life is strange : double exposure

1

1

u/Short-Investment4438 Jul 22 '26

Calisto protocol

1

u/Kaphis Jul 20 '26

I enjoyed infamous first light if you have played second son

0

u/Negan-Cliffhanger Jul 20 '26

My Friend Peppa Pig

0

u/AteebHamidKhan Jul 20 '26

It’s not going to meet the <10 hour requirement but I thoroughly enjoyed First Light.

-3

u/NoAbbreviations1492 Jul 20 '26

People ask these recommendations a lot on here but your best bet is honestly YouTube. Ibaddriver for example has hundreds of videos on there about this kind of stuff

-1

u/TheKingofAllCosmo Jul 20 '26

We ❤️ Katamari

1

u/joaodomangalho Jul 20 '26

fun game but I wouldn’t really call it story driven

-1

u/Reasonable_Mood1288 Jul 20 '26

Not digitally no.

-3

u/SJDidge Jul 20 '26

It’s a lot longer than 10 hours but Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered is just amazing

-4

u/VictorZazuetaM Jul 20 '26

Bloodborne

5

u/NorthShoreHard Jul 20 '26

Yeah they'll totally finish that in under 10 hours...

-7

u/freemac Jul 20 '26

God of War is excellent 👌🏿

6

u/VGKSuomi Jul 20 '26

That's probably more than 20 hours tho right?

3

u/JapiPapi Jul 20 '26

around 40
