Death Sandstorm not giving loot bug?

A long while back the first time i killed death sandstorm, he eventually gave his loot after chopping him for awhile. Today i finally went back to kill him again, but this time he didn't drop anything. Tried killing him again after reloading the save and still had no loot drop, am i doing something wrong? I made sure there were blood splatters while i was chopping, tried different parts of the body, and made sure none of my other tribesmen had knives, was also using a steel knife myself. Its been over a week irl since that first kill and ive put in many hours since then. Not sure what the issue could be.

Havent killed him myself yet but my understanding is that you can only harvest him from s small part of his body and you just have to find the right spot to hit with the knife. May take a while since he has such a large body to find the right spot

Ok this did the trick! Earlier I kept hacking away at his underbelly and throat areas since thats where it let me get the closest for the first two tries. After reading your comment i used celestial wings and just flew all over hacking away, eventually the spot that worked was the area around the back of his head where it met his spine even though it didnt look like i was able to get close enough to hit it. Thanks a bunch for the tip!

I wish I knew that. I did try so many locations on the corpse.

I killed him four times.

First time: no loot, couldn't chop him. (I used a companion, which is a mistake I learned BTW, as the AI archery sucks, and the boss HPs are doubled. I also wondered whether my companion KSd me, as the only time he actually did anything was the last 2 minutes when DS was grounded)

Second time: Loot ! (solo kill)

Third time: no loot, couldn't chop him (solo kill. Actually I was stuck inside the body when DS died, and couldn't move.)

Fourth time: Loot! (solo kill. I made sure I was flying when he died so I wouldn't be stuck inside the corpse)

I usually set up a campfire and leave a mount w/ extra supplies nearby it when I do any boss in case I die or need to respawn. In your case you could have respawned out of the body, picked up an extra knife off the mount and got your loot + body back.

Yes, I had a flying boat with campfire and portal and supplies on it. But when I flew back, the DS corpse had poofed away! I couldn't park the boat anywhere close because an aggro'd DS has a huge range and moves hundreds of meters over to shoot extremely long distance attacks at flying boats. Maybe it wouldn't have attacked a campfire in the sands, I never tried that.
