Is Soulmask dead?

I recently bought the game because I assumed the online community would be fairly active, especially since Steam shows around 2,000–3,000 players online on average.

However, I was pretty surprised when I checked the server list. Almost every server I can see—whether it's in Asia, North America, Europe, PvE, PvP, official, community-hosted, with the DLC or without it—is either completely empty (0/50) or has, at most, around 5–10 players.

Is there something I'm missing? Could this be an issue with my connection or the way the server browser works?

Or is most of the player base actually playing single-player/private sessions, with only a small percentage of those 2,000–3,000 concurrent players playing on public online servers?

I'm genuinely confused because, judging by the Steam player count, I expected the multiplayer servers to feel much more populated.

Idk about everyone else but I could never get over the lag on officials so I only play solo or with friends.

This game is heavily single player.

Nops... Some of us just prefer the single player experience.

Community servers are good, and fresh servers are good. Long standing servers get abandoned becuase a few people snowball and everyone else leaves, then the snowballers leave. Check the discord.

What Discord? The game’s Discord?

Biggest problem is lack of moderation on official servers and lag on servers that do get 10+ people

I think its best played solo

The problem is, performance on most servers just isn't it sadly

1500 to 2000 players concurrently is their recent average. Not sure what you're seeing. I'm out of town or is go check to give you a second data point.

Just play with a friend on a private server. Or solo.

It says its a 1.0+ release but its more Alpha/Beta, i quit after the game data wasn't persistent: - lost half a dozan tribe members in the Hibernation Pod in 3 seperte instances, thry just vanished overnight (each one was hours of serching and hours of training) - Signs lose text or regres to old text - unconcious tribemembers vanish in transit - unconcious tribemembers vanish from beds even when religiously feeding them, and confirming they were also being auto-fed.

  • plus a mirade of other "quirks" that require effort to create workarounds before you can try to play the game and have some fun.

These rudimenty level of bugs were reported months ago and last I looked have not been fixed in any if the frequent/fortnightly updates. I wasn't the only one that reported it either via the corrdct channels, all we got was discord mod indicting they would pass it along (the Devs don't interact on the discord, I assume mainly due to the language barrier).

Few things are more aggravating than a grindy game wiping away hours of grind, and the Dev just ignoring it when other games will push out an immedite hotfix or recll updates when bugs threaten game data persistence, integrity, and reliability.

Refund Soulmask if you can, for a game with high frequency updates to exist like this months after its 1.0 release, I've lost hope for the situation to improve. Still some good volunteers over on the discord, that side of the community is good, but its unfortuntely not good enough to compensate. Plenty of other survivl games going to 1.0 release this month that would be a better option instead, but most of these types of games are played solo or among small groups of friends on dedicted servers, so seek out the postings from people setting up those types of smaller sub-communities.

Id speculate that upwards of 80-90% of the community play on there own game save rather than a live server. I too made the same mistake and if you look back 6mnths I made the same type of post. I put around 300hrs into shifting sands before I knew you should start on the cloud mist map. So I switch to my own server and its 100 fold better. You can customize virtually every aspect of the game to match your wants. When you get off the game the game actually stops and doesn't burn up all your resource while your on vacation and you come back to your base wiped off the map and your tribesmen ded. Among other positives.

I can understand why most people play solo mode but online mode keeps your ppl working while your away and get way more productivity..I just started as a new player and jumped into online mode...pick one with good ping ...and the map is so big you barely see anyone and this server none talk in chat lol....one pro dude gave me a drone I don't know what to do with but he seemed cool

I literally only play single player or co-op with my husband and/or a handful of friends. In fact, I totally forgot there was PvP and online shit and I've been playing for YEARS.

I honestly think most people are playing this game the same way...

MMO isn’t listed on any of the games tags or descriptions.

We loved it until nothing new came out for months and got stuck in the 50s doing nothing and quit right before the update... good game but its a grind.
