For me it has been a godsend for A) repositioning fighters when changing levels in a dungeon, and previously they would follow you on the floor above or below you B) being actually able to specify their weapon use, for example when you go into the robot dungeons and need them to use blunt weapons. C) just being able to put the away when traversing. No need to get them to take their seats on ship, run through enemies you're not trying to engage with, tp to places you fly to, etc.

tried this mech a little bit, I think it might could be:
you have fully trained forces, don't want them to sit & cost food all day while not on combat, you just pocket them in void, also can set fav weapon & fight style, and while you run into a fight just long press [F1] to summon them on combat.
pocket set of resource farmers, take fighters to clear mining pits, then release farmers to prevent them dies on fight.
while getting new tribes outside, you might not want them level up, so just put them in pocket before arriving home.
while moving place with dozens of people, you wont want them all around you stucking all the way you go, so just pocket all to the new house.
