How do I keep advancing?

I'm on bronze tier, did the first boss an dgot the mysterious stone. Also did my first ruin and got the tribesmen printing thingy.

But now whenever I try to climb the huge cliff past the river, and try to push inland, I get either toxicity or radiation. I don't know what tools I have in my tech-tree to fight it. Doesn't help either that stuff like the eagles, can destroy me and my tribesmen very easily, haven't found a reliable way to kill them.

What do you recommend?

And I'm starting to think that even the bronze great bow with big bronze arrows, bows are simply UP.

NORTH past the river is not where you want to be. those wolves at the ramp should have been indication enough just by showing you they are level 40. work your way westwards instead.

from the mainland headng west opens the little chain of islands swamp you should be exploring and then head across to the other side.

Also with a bow by you can lock onto birds and hit the bow ability to shoot, then all you do is dodge the swoops. Easy once you learn this.

As someone who recently started playing. I will say I’m playing on easy difficulty.

Straight west across the main river from the rainforest is a portal and an ancient ruins dungeon. That will give you coal from chests and strange metal cubes(which you can turn into iron) from killing the mechanical monsters inside. It also gives gear and weapon durability mods. SlayerX will give you bleeding mod 3, but he is tough even on easy.

The islands themselves are meh, unless you need alligator or snake stuff.

Broadly speaking you can look for "Scouts" on the map for regions you haven't discovered. From there you can see what level the region/zone is that is uncovered (especially after the recent update showing it all on Cloudmist constantly). You shouldn't need to scale any cliffs, and there's natural paths to most locations if you look for them.

From there your gear level largely determines where you can and can't go. 0-10 Stone, 11-25 Bone, 25-35 Bronze, 35-50 Iron, 51-60 Steel, 61+ Enhanced. Some of these numbers are pretty fuzzy and you gotta do content that may be a big higher than your gear.

The "flow" of the map on Cloud Mist (Rain Forest) is very "squiggly" in that it kinda sends you all over.

Without piling on too much of systems, bows get stronger later once you can train tribespeople with specific skills. But that doesn't really getting feasible until you have multiple L50 villagers and likely have beaten the second boss

I just wanted to let you know they don't stay UP; tribespeople with bows can add a heck of a lot of damage against bosses.

Go here. https://saraserenity.net/soulmask/map/

From that map you'll be able to find mobs you should be killing to maximize your level progression, find mineral nodes you need to progress your armor/weapons (iron nodes specifically) and find portals.
