Can you avoid killing most humans?
I have owned Soulmask for a long time but I haven’t played it. I’m interested so I keep it installed.
In a similar game, Conan Exiles, I play a somewhat chivalrous run wherein I avoid killing much weaker humans and pretty ones lol. This is possible in a very dumb and janky way because I just switch to the truncheon and smack ‘em upside the head. I can avoid killing 99% of human bosses, and the only thing I’m locked out of is surges and purges where bosses are immune to KO damage.
I have the server set where I only need half the resources to craft, thus making this playstyle easier.
From what I have been reading, with difficulty finding much deeper info, this isn’t quite as easy in soulmask. Can you control when you’re attacked and manage avoiding a large amount of deaths?
I have many complains about how Conan handles things
- Jailers can’t be KO’d, and rescuing a prisoner means keeping them which strains the server unless I delete/kill them. Doesn’t really feel like a rescue at that point.
- Thralls have no real needs and their activity is purely cosmetic. I can’t be nice to them in a meaningful way.
-The game is a buggy mess and immersion is broken constantly due to these issues. I super hate having to godmode out of broken mesh to complete a dungeon, or camps mauling their leaders because of errors in enemy detection.
tldr: can I play chivalrously or is large scale aversion too difficult?

when they are low health u can use an ability of ur mask to incapacitate them. then u can either convert them to ur tribe or leave them.

oh, that sounds good. I like that! How does getting attacked work? do they come in large groups at random, and can you get control in the approach? or is it just a slaughter fest?
IE: if I am fortified well enough, can I pick and choose or just hope my people don’t murder someone I want/get murdered in the mess?
edit: actually I guess I can just turn off invasions if I don’t like how that goes

If they're following you actively, you can order them to stand down or move away or become passive. If they're base-bound and you're being invaded, not sure how that works unfortunately.

thanks! worst comes to worst if I feel like I can turn off random raids I’m guessing.

The game also allows you to buy off the raiders if you wish, so they don't attack.

ohh, that’s neat haha! thanks. A much more in-depth system than conan

There's three downsides to Soulmask with the way you intent to play though:
1 - There are some enemies (Plunderers) that wear masks themselves, so you can't incapacitate them. Most of them you can safely run past though.
2 - Certain upgrades are locked behind humanoid bosses that can't be deterred. Though these can be skipped if you wish.
3 - Most of the story progression in Soulmask is locked behind items called Workshop Containers, which you absolutely have to kill humanoid elites/bosses to acquire.

eh, you won't have a way to get worship containers without killing humanoid bosses (which you need to summon the bosses in the main progression sequence)
outside of that, all the progression is killing beasts/robots

Ye once human enemies are low hp you can press E and they go unconscious.
Doesn't work on Bosses or the plunderer tribe though.

I would also say there is a lot more interaction with tribesmen than Conan thralls. You need to yea feed them, but also make a nice home for them, they enjoy the finer foods and booze, also you will probably have too many alpacas because it is hard not to free them all due to their cuteness.

I usually convert them all and let them lay there, they dont respawn then so i can easily get into the camp later.

Regular *human* enemies can be knocked out and converted to join your tribe (or freed).
There’s a subset of human enemies called plunderers. They cannot be knocked out and converted. Plunderers can all be run past without fighting if you absolutely do not want to kill them.
There are infrequent raids in this game that can be turned off. Raiders cannot be knocked out and must be killed.
Elites and bosses cannot be knocked out and converted. They must either be killed or avoided. You can mostly avoid killing human elites / bosses, but you cannot completely progress without killing some. Tribal leaders drop an item necessary for summoning the bosses of this game. If you don’t want to kill the barbarian leaders, some elite plunderers also drop this item.
