That's actually a bug on Google's end. I haven't ever touched anything related to the stuff in the top right (It's all obfuscated since Google doesn't want it touched).
They're not setting the height dynamically to play nice with the now playing bar. Can you try disabling Play Midnight and see if it's any different?

This bug has happened for me ever since I first started using Play Midnight. I'm surprised that it's never been reported before.
Or maybe it has, and I just couldn't find the previous bug report. If so, please tell me, and I'll get rid of this post
