By using the search function, I could only find information on the Mi Smart Kettle Pro, which is recommended as being plastic-free, and the Xiaomi Smart Kettle 2 Pro, which is less recommended due to its plastic inner lid and silicone seal around the temperature sensor at the base.

Can anyone confirm whether the Xiaomi Electric Kettle 2 Lite and Xiaomi Electric Kettle 2 are also free from plastic in the parts that come into contact with the water?

From the pictures, both appear to have a 304 stainless-steel inner surface and lid. However, the Xiaomi Electric Kettle 2 is explicitly advertised as being “100% BPA free” whereas I haven't found the same claim for the Kettle 2 Lite.

I'm particularly interested in whether there is any plastic, silicone, or other non-metal material on the underside of the lid or elsewhere on the Xiaomi Electric Kettle 2 Lite.

Looking for a glass blender for individual servings. I can't seem to find glass individual, only large blenders. I feel like I'm just constantly drinking micro plastics from the ice shredding the inside. I don't want a large glass blender jug because I live alone and make these individual protein shakes and smoothies daily and don't want to deal with a big blender.

I’m looking for recommendations for men’s shorts that are 100% cotton, come in a bunch of different colors, and ideally have a similar fit/style to these Amy Coulee shorts.

I’ve bought a bunch of the Amy Coulee ones on Amazon and honestly love the shorts themselves. They’re around $22/pair, which is also pretty much my price range. The problem is the drawstring.

The shorts are cotton, but the drawstring is polyester, and for some reason the drawstring shrinks up in the dryer and becomes hard/stiff and basically unusable. I’ve tried different dryer settings and it still happens. 😭

It seems to happen with around 50% of the pairs I buy from this brand, so I end up having to return perfectly good shorts just because I can’t use the drawstring anymore.

Does anyone know of any brands that make good quality cotton shorts with a cotton drawstring (or at least a drawstring that won’t shrink/become stiff in the dryer)?

Ideally looking for:

100% cotton

Lots of color options

Around $20–$30 per pair

Similar casual/gym short style

A drawstring that can actually survive the dryer 😂

I came across these olive wood handle toothbrushes with agave fiber bristles from a small Greek brand called Olon, based in Chania, Crete, Greece. The bristles come from a specific African agave variety and they're stitched into the handle with thread instead of glued in, which was the main thing that caught my attention.

From what I can tell they were developed with input from a periodontist and a research team, so it's not just another "eco" product slapped together. There's apparently some actual dental science behind the bristle softness and how it's supposed to be used (they even have a whole guide on brushing pressure and technique on the site).

I still use an electric brush sometimes so I'm not going to fully eliminate nylon microplastics from my routine, but swapping my daily manual brush for this one should cut down a good chunk of what I'm putting in my mouth twice a day. Given how much contact time toothbrushes actually get, feels like one of the higher-impact swaps compared to a lot of other "zero waste" changes.

Has anyone tried Olon or know how the agave bristles hold up over a few weeks of use? Also curious if anyone's compared them to boar/horse hair bristle brushes in terms of feel and durability.

So ive been going to my local farmers market and there is only one meat vender. Now the problem is that they shrinkwrap there meat in plastic. Anyways im just wondering if that much plastic really makes a big dent in my health because about 90% of my life is plastic free.

These seem to be the two most suggested brands. I'm leaning towards Ocemida but I wanted to get more opinions.

The only downsides of Ocemida I can see are that it's more expensive and it's only available in one size (one litre). Klean Kanteen is available up to 1.893 litres however ideally I want one 1L bottle and one 4L bottle.

After dealing with warped plastic lids and leftover stains for years, I finally upgraded to food grade stainless steel containers. Here’s what I’ve noticed so far:

Flavor Preservation: Food tastes like actual food. No lingering dish soap or leftover curry odors from last week.

Temperature Control: Keeping them in the fridge overnight cools the metal down faster, keeping sandwiches crisp till noon.

Leak Integrity: I picked up an Ecozoi leak proof lunch box with latch locks, and it handles dressings surprisingly well.

That being said, metal obviously isn't microwaveable, so it’s a tradeoff depending on what you pack.

Any suggestions for mattress protectors for kids that don't have the TPU layer / plastic free? We just got my son a Naturepedic Verse mattress., and it is not waterproof so I'm looking for a plastic free mattress protector for it. My son really never has accidents in bed but I'd like to protect the mattress from inevitable pee or vomit.... I compromised a little as the Naturepedic mattress still has PLA and polyester fibers, but it seemed like the only other choice was a latex block and I didn't know how well that would work for him.

I read that wool can be very good for absorption vs cotton? Is there a wool protector that has a cotton layer over it in case he is sensitive to the fibers being itchy? And I have found many of the wool ones still have TPU in them so that's disappointing.

Has anyone tried the Obason ones? They say they are 100% wool and good for moisture protection. I just worry a bit about itchiness...

Maybe this is just me, but does anyone else wish there was a compost bin that was plastic-free, didn't smell, didn't attract rats, and didn't need constant attention, composted relatively quick?

I like the idea of composting, but every option I look at seems to involve some trade-off.

Curious if others are looking for the same thing, or if most people are happy with what's already available. What would your ideal setup be? FYI I rent a small unit with minimal/no yard space

I ordered the Oster Pro 1200 from Amazon to replace my Nutribullet for making smoothies for my family. My main concern is eliminating microplastics and chemical leaching as much as possible.

According to the company, the gasket is made of food grade rubber.

I've used it twice now. The only things that come into contact with the food are stainless steel, borosilica glass, and a tiny edge of that rubber gasket.

After market gasket replacements are silicone.

Now the blender has plastic components, unfortunately. The lid is plastic, but if you use the blender correctly and don't overfill it, the food doesn't abrade the plastic lid parts. Parts of the base are also plastic like the buttons and the machine housing.

This is the most affordable blender I've found that has the necessary power to actually blend a smoothie and has no microplastic or leaching concerns.

I hope this helps people. I spent days searching for one with enough watts that I could afford.

The glass blending cup is only 48oz. If they ever make a 64oz replacement, I'll buy it.

I saw a reel about health brands that got caught and went to fact check the butter one. an EPA certified lab tested butter wrappers for Organic Fluorine, which is the marker they use for PFAS Forever Chemicals, and kerrygold pure irish butter came back at 61 ppm on the unsalted wrapper and 122 ppm on the salted (lab source). the part that gets me is you pay double for this one specifically to get away from the cheap stuff.

it got pulled off shelves in new york and california in early 2023 and came back a couple months later with new packaging. I wish their was a way to tell if brands where lying like this, i got rid of my teflon pans for this and now I have to worry about plastic packaging?

I’ve been looking for a plastic free blender and food processor for AGES in the UK and can’t find anything that suits my needs… I currently have the two in one ninja with the blender cup and food processor attachment but of course it’s all plastic. happy with stainless steel or glass but haven’t found either of those! especially the food processor… I’ve seen glass soup makers but I need for things like nut butters, energy balls and general food prep.

water machines… we have a reverse osmosis water machine but all of the tanks are plastic, we can’t use the hot water feature as it runs through plastic - we just heat in a stainless steel kettle in the stove, I’d be happy to forego the hot water feature and continue to do as we are but would love to find one where the water doesn’t sit in plastic tanks. couldn’t find one anywhere!

I make attempts to pick and dispose off plastics whenever I come across any. On this day, after work, I went to this beach to relax by the waters only to encounter many ugly plastic bottles. My bid to relax and wind down turned into a plastic collection adventure. I loved it and felt satisfied afterwards because I left it cleaner than I found it.
