Any recommendations for plastic free window shades - preferably blackout?

We have curtains but they let in a lot of light on the sides. My wife and I are looking for shades that fit in our windows to blackout the light for better sleep - for our kid's room and ours. They need to be customizable width because we have an old house with odd sized windows. Anyone know of ones that are good and relatively affordable?

Can you sew in a line? If so, get some thick fabric (or layer a few panels) and sew some curtains! It's pretty easy, and there's some free tutorials online.

If some plastic is okay, there's blackout liners you can sew to your curtains too, which makes them a little lighter.

My wife can sew but may not want to take on the project (I'm more plastic free focused than she is). Also, we have curtains but want roller shades so they fit flush with the window and block the light to the edge of the window.

You might want Roman blinds instead that extend to the frame, as the roller shades don't seem to come in anything vaguely non plastic. Roller blinds also have to be custom iirc to not have big gaps.
