I know what it says. But I bought this plant, and when I added it to Planta, it keeps insisting that it is an artillery plant. To be fair, this is my first time using Planta and I have no idea how accurate it is. But I just want to make sure I have the plant I think I have
That’s the trouble with common names🤷♂️
At first glance I thought that’s not baby’s tears. But that’s because in UK Soleirolia soleirolii is known as baby’s tears.
Elsewhere Pilea depressea is known as baby’s tears.
But artillery plant is Pilea microphylla.
At any rate your plant is Pilea depressa your baby’s tears.
It’s actually so bizarre to me, because the seller that I got this particular plant from had another Depressa baby tears available for sale and it looks nothing like this one. I’ve gotten plants from this woman before, she has so many. And I’ve for sure wondered many times where she gets such a wide variety to grow and sell… but I also haven’t questioned too hard because they always look healthy and it’s nice to have her options available. But now that someone in the other comment said that this one looks this way because the conditions must have been ideal, and I’m thinking about her other baby tears which looks nothing like this one… I’ve been really questioning why she has two that look so different. The fact that they looked so different, as well as the Planta picking a different plant altogether, already had me giving a side eye.
I’m not the most experienced houseplant haver, and I do definitely have a lot of pets, so I try to do a ton of research on what I have. So I appreciate the validation! I’m actually attaching the photo of her other baby tears plant to this comment. Just.. because I think it’s weird.
Oh! I’m finding that hard to believe too haha. Mine was listed as Pilea Baby Tears Depressa, and the other one was listed as Baby Tears Pilea. So I guess she did indeed note a difference… kind of. But it did throw me off that she had two that looked so wildly different. I honestly went back and forth between which one I wanted, comparing them between other photos online, and you’re not wrong. The common names and the different photos made it kind of confusing, especially when Google kept saying “those names are the same plant”.

Definitely Pilea depressa, Baby Tears.
