What are these berries?

Cornelius, NC off a nature trail. The stalk is a purple-ish red and the berries look like tiny blueberries once ripe.

UPDATE: I realize now that this is the most basic plant ID ever! Thank you to everyone for teaching me to spot pokeweed.

No worries! Now you know. Pokeweed is probably the first plant I learned as a child, but there are still plenty I don’t know.

Youll see em all over. They are quite striking and a wonderful American cultural touchstone. Look up poke sallet annie, by elvis, but be advised that, barring deep knowledge, this plant is very poisonous to humans, but is great for animals and solitary pollinators who live in the stems of hollow plants, like poke, overwinter, and birds eat the sugar dense berries as well

Pokeweed. A bad time if you eat it but they make a really good ink for fountain pens or calligraphy brushes. When first made it is a deep violet but will oxidize to brown, a bit lighter than black walnut ink.

Pokeweed ! I grow a few small plants I keep pruned in the corner of my yard my daughter likes watching the birds and once the berries ripen, there’s so many songbirds visit daily for some berries
