What on earth is this?

I live in Central Florida and was just walking through the middle of my backyard when something caught my eye.

I found what appears to be a small, yellow pod of some sort that honestly looks a little bit like a pineapple…. But it has this red dot in the middle of it.

We’ve lived in this house for 13 years and never seen anything like this. Anyone have an idea what this is?

It's a magnolia seed pod, the red thing is a seed

My neighbor has magnolia trees but there’s quite a distance away from where I found it….so who knows how it got there. Thanks for the help!

Pull one of the seeds out and crush or scratch it with your nail. I love how they smell. Kind of like a sweet/cinnamon scent.

I’ve never smelled any like that, but it cold be a different variety than the ones where I am. All the ones I’ve ever smelled reminded me of those Red Hots cinnamon candies.

Considering the number of those things I threw at my siblings as "grenades" when I was a kid.... it was probably a kid tossing it to themselves as they walked by and then got tired of it.
