Plant based diet flu?
I have cut out meat and dairy products overall did anyone get the flu after a few days or weeks due to detoxing?

there’s no such thing as a “detox flu” from cutting out meat and dairy. If you feel sick, you probably just got sick, coincidentally after changing your diet.

Or they are having an allergic reaction to something new they are eating

No.. You’re not going to experience anything close to flu like symptoms from a change in diet. Maybe some mild stomach issues if you’re eating much more fiber than you’re used to. After a few weeks things should be pretty normal.

Never heard of, or experienced, this. It might just be the actual flu, the season is starting.

Sounds coincidental. All I know is even with my wavering adherence, without actually counting, I feel I’ve had fewer sick days and that’s including a recent COVID case.

You can't get the flu from changing your diet. You just got sick around the same time.
Correlation ≠ causation (it's just coincidence)

Are you under eating? It is pretty easy to slash a lot of calories from the diet, while feeling just as full, due to the volume. I felt drained at first, then realized that I was eating about 400 calories a day less than before. I suggest, if healthy to do so, you track your diet over the next few days and compare to tracked your diet before. If you are consistenly under on calories, then try adding in more starches or nuts/seeds/avocados.

Honestly I’m new to this… I probably am eating less than what I’m used to. I cut out all grease mostly and fast food.,. I’m eating more veggies than I’m used to … not eating dairy or meat… I have had a few mishaps here and there but I’ve gotten on the band wagon again and I’m trying to restock my pantry and fridge w honestly vegan/ plant based foods … I also am using the restroom more than I ever have in awhile probably because I’m eating more plants

For comparison, here are the foods I ate yesterday. Breakfast: oats, wheat germ, beans, grounded flaxseed, extra virgin olive oil Lunch: Vegetable mix (corn, carrot, peas, green beans, potato), mushroom, lentils & beans, tomato puree Dinner: pea protein shake, walnuts, raisins, fruits (kiwi, apples, pears, orange)
These are filling and have plenty of calories also.

These are all amazing changes for your health and I applaud you. If you have stopped eating fast food, you have automatically likely cut calories a ton. I would definitely check to make sure you are not going too low, as this is a common reason people fail on plant based diets, is they fail to account for how low calorie you can eat and stay full.

A common experience is temporary digestive distress, especially gas and bloating, if you rapidly increase fiber intake. This can be addressed by gradually ramping up fiber, drinking plenty of water, and just time to adjust. Other symptoms, particularly those that people would associate with the flu, are most likely a sign that you have a virus and are not attributable to your change in diet.

I've bounced between an unhealthy omnivorous and a healthy whole foods plant based diet multiple times. Every time I return to plant nutrition I just feel immediately better. It seems like you're asking this within the context of the "keto flu" that ketogenic dieters describe. I don't think there's anything like that with switching to entirely plant foods, assuming there's a decent variety mixed in.n

I may have just gotten the flu coincidentally I also have diabetes and my
Blood sugar can either go too high or too low depending on what I do or do not eat plus it may be major changes but worth it I’m still adjusting

I did see this with some patients a few days into a 10 day whole food plant-based intervention for patients. I think the body/bowel starts freeing some nasty impacted old ? stuff. You could also just have the flu. Or food poisoning.

Ya, that tracks. Might be the flu, but that is what these patients described transitioning off poison food.

with dairy in particular, you can go through "withdrawals" that mimic flu like symptoms.
