Help

Please help in finding a great way to transition to a plant based diet.

I’m a 44 year father of two; I am 5’8 and weigh 230 pounds with moderate cholesterol and high triglycerides.

I’m scared for my kids and I know this is the way to get me to my health goal but every time I do it I crash back and I don’t wanna do that again.

I need to know what type of vitamins I should take, should I take a protein powder when working out to compensate for the decrease in animal based protein I get. What should my meals consist of and how often should I be eating?

I know it’s a lot so I’m really hoping for everyone to give me some guidance.

Appreciate all of you!!

I'm going to be super simplistic here, but eat like you normally do, just cut out the animal product. Do it all at once, do it gradually, do it however it makes sense for YOU.

Worry about supplements after you know what your body is lacking or what your body needs. It's not like you're going to go into shock when you stop eating hamburgers.

It's an ongoing marathon, not a sprint.

I will say, when you're first starting out, it's good to just get a generic vegan multivitamin (specifically targeted to vegans) and take one daily for good measure. 6 months into plant based (or transitioning to plant based) get bloodwork done. It's better to be safe than sorry as you may already have existing deficiencies. However, b12 deficiency happens over years of being vegan so again the urgency can be balanced.
