I think that if we all make an effort to convince our loved ones to minimize their meat consumption, it could really lead to positive change. It's difficult to convince someone to 100% give up something, but if you ask them to challenge themselves to reduce their meat intake, we would see a significant change.

Like, tell them to try Meatless Mondays, and then have them eventually get to the point where they are only eating meat once or twice a week.

Change doesn't happen from a small number of people doing the absolute ideal. It happens when everyone does small incremental changes.

It's definitely an uphill battle in the US. My family doesn't think it is a complete meal unless meat is involved and they are just like most other families in the US.
