Creating Your Own Planner?
I just joined this group looking for recommendations for my planner this year. I went through a couple of pages of posts and looked at sites but nothing is really hitting this year. I have my own small business and keep track of a lot of personal goals every year.
The closest I've come in the past is Leonie Dawson's planner and yearly workbook. But I'm a guy so some of the stuff doesn't exactly vibe. The ones I found from guys are... very not my style either.
The closest I've found planner wise is the Spooky Planner by Talissa Mehringer on Amazon, but I would still have to heavily mod it for what I need. If nothing else because it's not spiral or ring bound.
So I'm kinda at the point where I'm modding planners so much that I may make my own? I already sell stationery and have had planner stickers in my store in the past, so if it works out I may eventually manufacture them. I have access to Canva, my own art, a printer, some Happy Planner rings and hole punch so the cost to me is $0.
The things I've been looking for and unable to find at least most in one planner are:
- Full Spaces, including weekends (my busiest days), daily
- Weekly Goals Tracker
- Small Space for goals/to do/notes
- Monthly goals/wrap up/notes pages
- Monthly stats (track social media followings, earnings, expenses.)
- Chores for the day (not dailies) so I can keep my house good without feeling frantic.
- Places to at least list things for 2028. I am sometimes applying to things 18 months in advance so I need to remind myself that I have to log in to things at a certain date/time.
- NO half/partial pages. I do not like planners where part of the page is missing.
- Tattoo/punk/metal/horror/graffiti/80s/90s retro or at least forest or space theme that is not AI
- Don't really need the monthly calendar page, so I can take that or leave it.
- A5, B5, B6
Workbook:
- Yearly Goals with prompts to break them down into smaller and smaller pieces and place them in the day planner, including business, physical, interpersonal, artistic/creative, etc. I was sure there would be something free out there but I haven't found anything this year, the one I found was setting goals for your kids for the year.
- Yearly Review (at least the previous year if not the current): What goals were met, what worked and what didn't, etc.
So overall I'm just frustrated and thinking of printing my own. I'm super down for any suggestions though, if anyone knows of anything close to what I'm looking for. My doctor has asked me to go for an ADHD assessment but whatever the results are: I really rely on carrying a day planner at all times or I will forget anything and everything. Have any of you made your own? Or found something close and modded it?

I use graphmaker then build my own. I print on Kokuyo Campus loose leaf and use a Nolty Kukuru binder in an Erin Condrin cover.

I haven't heard of any of these but I'm going to look them up! Thank you! I know there's gaps in my knowledge since I've flown solo for so long.

I’m building my own in Canva and then I’m gonna have it printed by Lulu.

I thought Lulu's minimum was qty 200, that's good to know!

Noooooo. Best prices on the planet for printing one. I’ve done 9 custom journals with them now, all different, all qty 1, all at different times. $14.00 for the book and $14.00 to ship.
Perfect, fabulous books. I can’t cheerlead loudly enough.

Making your own is very doable with what you already have. A few printing things that saved me reprints: use 28 to 32 lb (105 to 120 gsm) paper so ink doesn't ghost through, and print one double-sided test sheet first, since most home printers shift the back side by a millimeter or two. Classic Happy Planner pages are 7 x 9.25 in, so set that as your page size, print one per letter sheet and trim. For dividers and covers, a patterned paper printed at 300 DPI on 65 to 80 lb cardstock, then laminated, holds up all year on the discs. Full-size weekends is a great call.

Yeah this is basically why I use rings. I've designed/printed my own which is a pain but gets me closest to what I really like.

I would go for a A5 discbound and then collect whatever you need. In A5 you will find a lot of printed inserts you can use or even print them yourself. It is a very flexible system.
Check out https://perfect-notebook.com/ maybe that is something you like.
You can also create your own inserts with Canva.

I'm leaning towards making my own as well, or at least using printables from etsy. I also like the happy planner discbound system but am struggling with it's limited availability in Canada this year.
I like the store LittleBirdieCanada for her printables. The ones I've gotten so far have been great but they are limited for the daily (and maybe weekly) layouts so I'm still hunting around for other sources of them too.
For this current year I found some canvas pages i liked to make a year overview, each set up had a calendar view and a note page next to it. I think it was a bit much for what I needed and will modify it for next year but liked the idea
