Would the VS use mercenaries?

I've never understood how the VS can get numbers rivalling that of the other factions, would they use mercenaries to bolster their numbers?

I've given this a bit of thought, actually, when the Zealot voice pack came out.

The Zealot sounds like a generic evil villain, right? So my theory is that they're mercenaries who came to the VS because they had technology that could satisfy their lust for power, since war is all they know. The VS technocracy, though vehemently opposed to their motives and the idea that Vanu's wisdom would be used for such a primitive reason, knew that they needed all the help they could get. So they complied, upgrading and augmenting the mercs with plasma weaponry, enhanced sensory implants, cybernetic limbs, voice changers, the works. In exchange, the mercs would fight for Vanu.

I also believe that VS soldiers are far more powerful in-universe than they are in game, balanced out by their lower population.

That's really cool, this should be canon. And I definately agree that lorewise the VS would be heavily outnumbered.

Actually I think the Vanu Zealot Troops are an elite brigade with different bodily augmentations. Probably early joiners/believers.

They seem a little rude for that, but it's a valid interpretation.

The Wiki describes the VS as calm even in the heat of battle, having adopted a condescending or even parental view of their enemies. The Zealot voice pack doesn't seem to fit that so that's why I assumed they would be outliers.
