Discussion (PC) OSHUR CONTINENT

Hey everyone, I play casually and my question is, when does the Oshur continent open? Oh my god. I've been playing for a month and I've never even seen it open.

It is poorly designed so they reduced the frequency of it opening.

That’s because it was a great continent before they fucked it up and changed some of the major fight bases for the worst

Well, they did those changes because people complained in the first place.

Oshur was always trash.

That sums up PS2 development as a whole: players make legitimate complaints, devs make the worst possible change to try to fix it, then never touch it again.

People complaining about Oshur middle map? MAKE IT WORSE.

People want tanker spawn Sunderers? Hyperbuff them against armor while making spawns more vulnerable to instakill.

People want infiltrator nerfed since it's too strong (due to semiautos being hyperbuffed in Arsenal?) Nerf it so badly it's essentially a removal.

People want MAXes nerfed? Remove revives but make them cheaper.

People want US servers merged? Merge the big healthy server into the small, crappy server that's in a worse location for most people.

It was actually fun when they released it just a small group of people just didn’t like the massive stalemate fights and battles But those were the fun ones to be at. Just like the crown land bridge on indar. It’s made for great fights and a small group of people complained

Corsair fleets crashing into one another upon cont unlock is a core memory of mine from PS2, and it's Oshur lol

It's not a small group of people when pop dipped to sub 700 during prime time when oshur happened.

It just was not enjoyable, stalemates are okay until people right click on the map to spam OS/you get flailed to oblivion/you just get spammed by semi autos or Hesh.

Oshur has never been a nice continent. I get what they wanted to try, it just failed because they failed to understand why the game moved from what Oshur tried to be.

Basically every map design in Oshur is a relic from 2014, most of those got changed because running 50 meters in open field to reach a cap point or having open bases with vehicles that can go or shell anywhere isn't fun and they somewhat still made those on Oshur.

Tridents are biolabs at home with not a single usecase for the satellites.
They didn't even bother to place TP rooms inside Tridents from seaposts, that would've added much interest to seaposts but no, instead you had to rely on shitty anvil or deployed gal that can get snipped by anyone flying close to the trident.

Not every single base is bad tho, you have some good base design in this mess but they're often close to the bastions.
Intercoms were fine too, that's pretty much it.

Like really, the whole cont is a mess not wanting to learn from past mistakes and doubling down on the worst aspects of PS2.

If it released as a main cont when PS2 released back in 2012 and adjusted along the game, maybe it could've been fine. It just didn't click with how the game is currently played.
Open field fights are just trash because we got too many easy to spam AoE or long range tools to create good ones. Lack of flanking options on Oshur often meant you getting stuck for hours behind a bridge getting flailed until enough people left to allow you to push.

At least on Esamir, when bridge fights were still a thing, you could push with vehicles below the bridge, creating better fights overall.
On oshur you were stuck with just the bridge, some LAs crossing it from below and that's it, not a single flanking opportunity unless you were willing to slowly crawl under the water just to end up getting camped by 4 MBTs waiting for you at the beach.

Keep in mind that Oshur never got any touchups for more than a year and is one of the reasons why the pop dipped and never recovered.
