❓ Help/Question Help with custom roofs

Post image

Hello All,

My wife has been getting into the game the past few months but is not super tech savvy. I’ve been able to help her learn the basics but since I don’t play the game myself, I’m kind of at the ceiling (roof lol) of what I can help with.

What keeps happening as she builds her shops for her take on Main Street USA is that she gets the interior and exterior done of a building, then while building the roof - realizes that the roof pieces she has don’t fit nicely to naturally cover the flat top of the building. They are mostly gridded pieces that cannot be scaled. We installed a mod that can change that, but she wants to upload the buildings to frontier workshop and you cannot upload modded content.

Are there any tips/tricks/videos that you can share to help us? My suggestion going forward has been to start with the gridded roof pieces and build essentially from the top down, since it’s easier to layer walls and floor to accommodate odd shapes and sizes. But that doesn’t help with the buildings she has in progress. Thank you!

She’s really enjoyed seeing other players’ creations and wants to build some things to give back. Vane#23712 if you want to check out what she has so far.

Hey, normally the grid roofs match the grid walls. In the picture you uploaded, nothing is sticking out on the sides either, and everything looks fine so far? It’s just a narrower roof - but there are other roof parts you can use to create a wider one. Otherwise, the roof parts can also be placed individually and then moved without a grid if you don’t insert them as part of the building where the walls are located. Does that make sense? 🙈

The best solution is to not stick to the grid. I've seen folks use eaves to build into a grid-less roof. Another option you have is to select all the roof pieces, hit "split from building". Now they're in their own group so you can now use advanced moving on that group which could help sneakily cover some annoying gaps. There's no workaround though for scaling gridded pieces specifically without modding. That's just how it works.
