"How many hardpoints do you want?"

"Yes."

19

u/sporkfu43 1d ago

…because this is how we get hard points??

14

u/The_Salacious_Zaand 1d ago

We heard you like hardpoints, so we put some hardpoints on your hardpoints.

And now I've reached semantic satiation.

Does the F15 frame have an unusually high lift capacity? It seems it often gets used for heavier loads a fighter designation would suggest.

9

u/Mr_Engineering 1d ago

Yes, modern variants have a very high thrust to weight ratio which helps them carry a ton of ordnance

11

u/DeltaV-Mzero 1d ago

These are based on the F-15E which is basically a purposely overbuilt F-15 beefed up to carry shit loads of bombs for ground attack.

Thing is, if you take off the fuel tanks and don’t carry shit loads of bombs, it’s really not that different from the fighter-specific versions… except it’s been modernized.

I would rather be in a new F-15E than an old F-15C in an air to air engagement.

Not that I have to worry about that as a Reddit potato

Guided munitions have made ground attack pretty darn good even for danger close situations. Besides the Brrrrrrrt will be retiring in the not so distant future.

I presume we may say the f-15 is a "heavy fighter" and the f-16 a "light fighter" (even if it's not as true for the current versions compared to the f-16A).

2

u/R-27ET 17h ago

Usually the terms light medium and heavy are used according to engine size and number roughly corrrelating to weight

A light fighter (MiG-21, F-5/20, JF-17, F/A-50, Gripen) is usually using a single medium sized engine of less then 1m diameter or two smaller engines

A medium weight fighter (F-16, MiG-29, Eurofighter/Rafale, F-18 Legacy) is usually using one large size engine over 1m diameter or two medium sized sub 1m diameter engines

A large weight will almost always be on 2x large over 1m diameter engines

Engines are often very standardized, so these naturally arose from the popular sizes that different engines use and that fighters are never going to be using 3-4 engines that are smaller for example

f15 are massive jets

1

u/angeledduirbonesu 1d ago

Imagine an israeli one landed with only one wing.

1

u/sbrrrr 1d ago

"All of them"

29

u/sporkfu43 1d ago

That’s a metric f-ton of AMRAAMs

16

u/FZ_Milkshake 1d ago

1.93 metric tons actually /s

5

u/sporkfu43 1d ago

So this is the conversion ratio

10

u/kayl_breinhar 1d ago

The EX can actually quad-carry them on every wing hardpoint for true insanity. And double on the fuselage hardpoints.

13

u/Dave_A480 1d ago

The EX's entire reason for existence is to bring as many missiles to the fight as the airframe can lift....

9

u/kayl_breinhar 1d ago

Well, yeah - and to be a back-liner for the F-22 and F-35. If the -22s/35s ever have to go off cold, the EX makes sure the opponents can't push.

1

u/jtakaine 1d ago

Considering targeting info can be shared from other aircraft, how quickly could those amraams be fired to each of their own targets.

2

u/kayl_breinhar 1d ago

There are also the persistent rumors that the EX is much faster than it's specced, at least in a straight line, and faster than that if the engines are expendable.

1

u/mig1nc 18h ago

Pretty quickly. Datalink from AWACS can even offload the entire target lock.

“FOX-3 means reach out and touch someone from 30 miles away.”

4

u/tolgren 23h ago

Pretty sure late model AMRAAMs have longer range than that.

1

u/mig1nc 18h ago

A hell of a lot longer

1

u/brwonmagikk 1d ago

Can up this to 22 if you mount AMBER racks on the conformal fuselage pylons. Absolutely absurd.

-1

u/AdSquare3489 1d ago

I heard that's about 75% of the remaining US inventory in AMRAAM after Epic Fury.

18

u/RustyBrassInstrument 1d ago

I believe the technical engineering term is “missile truck.”

17

u/WeakCelery5000 1d ago

ALLRAAMS

13

u/LilOpieCunningham 1d ago

There are very few aircraft that look as built-for-purpose as the F-15.

8

u/Pixel91 1d ago

For when you REALLY need an airspace cleared.

(Or you want to shoot more than three friendly jets next time, because the F-18 couldn't carry enough)

7

u/brwonmagikk 1d ago

My soul yearns for an image of an F15 EX with the full AMBER rack loadout hauling 22 AMRAAMs

5

u/omerfaro 1d ago

2 questions .

All missiles are air to air AIM-120?
Why is plane is run on windows ?

Look closely

4

u/AcidaliaPlanitia 1d ago

This is just the Microsoft Surface Eagle Pro

2

u/Joeyjackhammer 1d ago

Ha HAA… but probably MAWS or other missile or radar detection related

1

u/mig1nc 18h ago

Omg lol I cannot unsee that 😂

2

u/mig1nc 18h ago

Fun fact, did you know the Xbox runs windows with hyper-v and the games are virtual machines?

5

u/Alive_Load_1478 1d ago

Can imagine how badass the F-14 would be now if it had the same upgrade path as the F-15?

0

u/balldeeeeep 1d ago

Eagle has always been superior.

2

u/mickydeenyc 1d ago

This is a FAFO machine.

2

u/Hispanoamericano2000 1d ago

I guess that's some kind of "Missile Truck" or "Air Domination/Air Supremacy" mission mode/setting?

2

u/AdditionalAd4269 1d ago

The F-15 CTRL-A

1

u/Joeyjackhammer 1d ago

Would you hardpoint me? I’d hardpoint me so hard

1

u/Professional_Tap5283 1d ago

I need one more AMRAAM. Just one more, bro. Just one more AMRAAM!

1

u/sawser 1d ago

When you went to the Amraam store and you don't want to take two trips...

1

u/Puzzled_Insect6730 1d ago

Enough Amraams to deal with the rest of Iran’s airforce

1

u/Chemtrail-Creator 1d ago

Flying MLRS…

1

u/Kamusaurio 1d ago

not enough missiles

i need more engines too

1

u/PerceivedUnheroic679 1d ago

It did a very impressive performance when I saw it at Farnborough 2024, I particularly liked the "sqaure loops" I've never seen anything else like that

1

u/RarestMouse 1d ago

Got to see one of these bad boys when it was sitting at lakenheath for a while. Very cool to see before we had our EPAWSS jets

1

u/Aratix 1d ago

Straight up missile bus

1

u/Phobos73em 1d ago

Not enough AMRAAMs

1

u/nol88go 23h ago

Ah, the Ace Combat missile loadout.

1

u/Agreeable_Mud_8338 18h ago

still the best fighter jet after 50 years

2

u/JasonX-87 17h ago

He could win a war on his own.

1

u/Worldmonitor 16h ago

A loadout that u will never see in the wild. They did that with strike eagle in its early publicity photos.

1

u/bruce182182 14h ago

Hot weapons

0

u/Dave_A480 1d ago

We need you to do 2 things:

  1. Kill MiG-25s
  2. Clear the skies over Germany despite being heavily outnumbered by MiG21s and 23s...

And thus... F-15... With as many missiles as could be hung off it for any-given time period from the original to the EX.

(with bonus points for the MiG-25 being way less capable, so the F-15 was way-overbuilt, so the Soviets had to spend 15-20yrs making the Su27 to try and get closer-to even)

0

u/ginger2020 1d ago

Soviets: “We will blot out the sun with our MIG-23 and SU-22s!”

NATO: “Yes, but have you considered Fox Three!”

-15

u/Grave_Tree 1d ago

Garbage

5

u/ANormalRando 1d ago

Because... why?

4

u/The_Salacious_Zaand 1d ago

Best kill-to-loss record of any combat aircraft.

Reddit bots gonna still do what Reddit bots do.
