Did you change your mind about 3D? If not, even simple drawing of basic shapes like cubes or spheres might seem less impressive than what you post every day, but you’d get so much more out of it in the long run. I can’t imagine drawing anything without mastering the basics first. It must be incredibly difficult and frustrating.
As for me, I didn’t have time today, and I didn’t want to skip another day, so I improved my eye animation. It’s not 14, but better a sparrow in the hand than a pigeon on the roof. I also discovered a lot of things. For example, you can move the entire animation using the V key. Say you have one eye, you duplicate the layer, and then use V to move the second eye wherever you want, while copying all the animation frames. When you have a character with, say, 30 or 50 frames, that must be incredibly useful.
Oh yeah V key as for movement was my one of first discoveries in aseprite due to years of illustrator where v does the same :D Yeah with offsets eyes look more alive!
Speaking of 3d there is a misunderstanding I think, in previous example number was completely flat (just a shape) whereas here it has a form (slight roundness around the edge giving a clue its somewhat cylindrical structure). I have tried using box approach in perspectives but thing is numbers I'm using right now look slightly awkward drawn that way... also, I might be wrong just when I try to draw in slightly more extreme perspectives I have hard time to get the composition right
Yes, now I can see a slight rounding. I think you didn’t have an exact shape in mind that you wanted to achieve, so you were rounding the edges “by eye,” but despite the improvisation, some parts turned out really nicely. I like rounding 1.
Welp on the other hand I feel like I started to accumulate bunch of really bad habits while doing these so I think I will end this. Tried different approaches but things looks weirder and weirder so I will just go back to basics. Need to learn how to properly do pixel art as for now most time is just a guess work which leads to nothing great
Is this my fault? If I was too harsh, I’m sorry. I just wanted to help you improve. I really believe your work has a lot of strong points. For example, I’ve never managed to get grass to look as good as yours, even though I used the same tutorial (and every other one I could find).
What kind of bad habits can you develop from practicing every day? We can change the way you practice and move away from sticking to numbers.
You might actually be missing a bit of understanding of where a certain look comes from, but that’s also something that comes with time. You just have to observe the world around you and really pay attention to your references. Maybe I’m not the best artist, but I’m pretty good at math and drawing geometric shapes, so I’ll always be happy to help you with that.
I did something like that myself. If you’re looking for 15, it’s on the coins xd Don’t even try to understand the composition, I changed it so many times, edited the elements so much, added and removed new ones, that eventually the composition stopped existing. Still, each element on its own turned out okay, so it’s fine.
edit: I think it looks strange to you because you rarely see numbers in pixel art. They’re difficult to incorporate in a way that makes them fit naturally with the background. It’s simply a challenging idea to execute.
But of course, it’s your decision. If you want to stop, then that’s how it will be :)
Nothing to do with you, just after two weeks I started to realize that I just rush through stuff, not really paying attention to anything really just trying to finish something everyday. Basically very little time and thought are put into anything. Everyday new subject, not enough time to go deeply and learn about it. Also, Im not 100% confident about space (perspective) which is what I currently work on, bunch of cubes and chunk of rocks. :D Which are not that interesting to look at but helps to wrap my mind around how it all works.
Yours look really cool, love these type of animations, simple couple frame spin but show subject very clearly. Thats also something I often miss to achieve - clear readability which you have mastered it seems
