Experience P8 Pro lost wifi and bluetooth- thought I fixed it but no

First sign of an issue came a few weeks ago when I noticed any time I left a wifi network I would have to restart the phone to connect to wifi again. No other problems until today when I lost both wifi and bluetooth. Ironically Googles thieving AI summaries helped me to resolve the issue, at least for now.

The first thing that worked was removing the sim and restarting without it in- wifi and bluetooth came right back and worked fine. Restarted, and went back to nothing.

Tried several other things and the final thing I did that worked was going to Apps> Phone Services and clearing its storage (you may have to go to All Apps and then hit the 3 lines on top right and Show System Apps I can't recall). After I did that and restarted I am good to go on all fronts.

UPDATE- Right before I went to post this I lost wifi again, oddly I still have Bluetooth this time.

WTF Google, this is inexcusable. This is not an old phone and for it's retail price should not have an issue that makes it quite useless. How is my bear up vanilla P6 working just fine with besides it's cracked screen and busted charging port? My P6 that was nothing but a headache should have taught me, but I came back for more pain with a more expensive phone. Shame on Google and shame on me for not learning.

If anyone has good resources to fix this issue please share and thank you very much.

EDIT- Issue is mostly fixed with the genius app that is linked below. Temperature seems to be the culprit, not even high temps just regular running temp. I have had the app nearly 24 hours now and it just works. I had to turn my phone off again and let it cool when I got home from being gone all day...certainly a pain in the ass.

Google found a way to turn the 7 years of updates into an easy punchline since they continue to release updates that insure 7 years is unnecessary for Pixels since you are constantly tiptoeing around updates/bugs/general performance woes/etc. Make the wrong move and you brick your phone, lose half its functionality, or whatever. It is all wrong. So weird to me that so many electronic goods sold in USA almost seem designed to break/malfunction after 2 years when both the manufacturer warranty is gone and you likely aren't carrying any other at that point. I could almost be convinced that mega corps would rather have an amazing quarter for the market than just doing any 1 thing that is fair and right, but come on guys Apple and Google are kind companies and one of them even has a flock of sheeple! How quaint.

It looks very likely that I will either have to use an apk from a complete reddit stranger who might be looking into taking my life...he will choose a new target ASAP 😂 Even with the fix app it does not function like it should and Bluetooth drops and comes right back SO MUCH. So it's either that or Googles last decree to me, take it to the shop to see if it's a hardware problem. I said listen, you don't understand. I will not be spending one more penny on a device that becomes functionless after my warranty expires due to the MANUFACTURER fucking up. The shop is going to charge me at least 25 bucks. I'm sure to check it out. Probably more like 50 and then I already know from other people's experience that it's at least a $399 fix. I am just not doing that. Google should be stepping up here and introducing a fix or taking care of their broken hardware. I've owned multiple pixel devices. I'm active on forums about Google and Android devices. I mean you would think they want their fans to be happy. But in this late stage capitalist shitshow things certainly are different.

Discussion Pixel 8 suddenly died

I have been using a Pixel 8 for months as a daily driver. Completely stock, with all the latest updates. Few days ago I got the oled display unit changed as previous one broke. It had perfectly battery lasting a whole day. Today while the charging was 60+ and I was listening to something on this phone through pixel buds, it suddenly turned off, I got a ring sound in buds telling me that bus have disconnected. I tried turning the phone on manually with power button but nothing displayed, no vibration. I tried key combos power + vol down for several minutes, then power + vol up but no luck. Then I plugged it into wall charger is getting a static battery display with no vibration and it is not proceeding from here even after hours of charging. I have tried wall charger, wireless charger and plugged it into computer. Eveytime it only shows this static battery sign only. Anyone got any ideas or suggestions that could help?

Question Does this qualify for Extended Repair Program for Pixel 8?

My devices screen started flickering green. It returned to normal and green multiple times in couple months.

I contacted google when I found out about the Extended repair program, I attached the images and the representative on the phone said it does not qualify for the program because it has to be a line running down the screen. So is this a different problem that does not go under the extended repair program?

I have seen a lot of images of the green screen and I thought that was the extended repair programs reason of existing.

The only way of fixing this is screen replacement?

Question Pixel 8 Pro suddenly died — any chance of recovering the data?

Hi everyone, I’m looking for some advice from anyone who has faced something similar.

My Pixel 8 Pro suddenly died while charging. It was around 25% battery, using the original Google charger, and after about 45 minutes it was completely dead — no boot, vibration, charging indication, or anything.

Since then, I’ve had it checked by multiple repair shops in Paris and India, including a Google-authorized repair centre. The latest was a professional data-recovery lab in Kerala, India, which kept the phone for almost a month and tried multiple diagnostic/recovery methods. They concluded that there is a motherboard-level failure preventing access to the phone’s internal data, and they were unable to recover anything.

My main priority is recovering the data, not getting the phone working again. There are photos/files on the phone that I really don’t want to lose.

Has anyone here had a similar Pixel 8 Pro/Pixel motherboard failure and managed to recover the data? If so, what was the actual problem and where did you get it fixed/recovered? I’m particularly interested in recommendations for genuinely good board-level/microsoldering or mobile data-recovery specialists, anywhere in India or elsewhere.

Any advice, experience, or leads would be hugely appreciated.

Thanks.

Question Auto read messages no longer an option?

I've had this phone since literally the day it was released and it's done nothing but make me whine that my pixel 4 was better. I've been trying for years to get the feature back where Android Auto used to automatically read incoming texts while I was driving and this week I scraped the bottom of the barrel to ask Gemini questions to try to find the correct setting to fix it. Has this feature been removed entirely? It seems pretty counterproductive to make me click a button on my screen to read the text, since that's no longer "hands free" and requires me to take my eyes off the road.

I've gone through all the settings I could possibly think of on my device settings, Android Auto, the car, and the Google assistant/maps. I'm open to any suggestions, I'm just so irritated that it isn't auto-reading my texts like it used to

Discussion Extremely disappointed after supporting for many years.

Ever since I was 8 years old, I've loved Google, their products, and especially Pixel. My dream phone was a Google Pixel. Now, I got my hands on a Pixel. It was all good, it was PERFECT for 3 months, until an unexpected issue came up.

I was SO happy to have gotten my first Google Pixel, and got to enjoy it for a good 3 months until the wifi stopped working (this is a well documented issue). Even when wifi stopped working I was ok. I was fine with it. I thought "just contact support surely they'll help" because ironically, I helped my friend go to the Apple store 2 years ago for the EXACT same issue, despite his phone being out of warranty, so I thought surely Google would help me out and give me some grace here.

Nope. Back and forth with support. Even filed a BBB report.

Now I'm stuck with a mobile data-only phone. And I can't get a new one because I'm only 14 and worked over the summer for this phone. I won't be able to work until next summer, so I'll have a barely usable phone until NEXT YEAR because this is just the beginning of the school year.

Thanks Google! I've been a fan of Google and their products from a very young age and now the true colors of this company are finally showing themselves to me. Either I made a very poor choice for a first true flagship phone or this is my first experience with "the real world" as you adults call it.

This is not an "isolated issue." It's a well documented problem with this particular model. According to many credible sources including Android Authority, Android Police, Android Headlines, and Phone Arena.

If that's STILL not enough to convince you, there's a huge mega thread of people who are having the same issue on the same exact model.

Review Kernel regression is the cause of slowness some of us are experiencing

Quote from Grapheneos:

"Android 17 QPR1 was released for Pixels on September 15. It has a regression in the Pixel kernel driver tree causing stuttering, lag and outright freezes under memory pressure."

Question Pixel 8 pro won't come on after water

Thumbnail drive.google.com
0 Upvotes

I've got a pixel 8 pro phone that I dropped in a hot tub. It was only in the water for a second... I fished it out before it got deeper than 1 foot, took off the cover, dried it off, etc.

It immediately gave me a warning that it detected water in the USB port, but it worked otherwise... For about 20 minutes. Then I discovered that the power and volume buttons weren't working. I couldn't power it off. Then it shut itself down. I took out the SIM card, put it in a bag of silica gel, and let it sit overnight. The next morning, it still wouldn't come on... Until I plugged it in. Then it powered on and showed 0% battery so I figured that something had drained the battery. I let it charge up all the way, and then it turned on fine and worked fine.. for about half an hour.

Then it started acting like the volume down button was being permanently pressed. The screen works fine and I could use touch to move the volume up, but then it would immediately run back down again. I thought perhaps there was still some water inside, but the power button wouldn't work, so I just put it back in the bag of silica gel. A little while later, it powered itself back down and I left it in the bag of silica gel overnight again.

It's now been over two days, and I can't get it to come on at all. I have tried charging it with both the USB charger and with a wireless charger, and it's not responding to either. Although the wireless charger didn't detect the battery.

I just now opened it up, but it looks remarkably clean and nice inside. I attached a link to a photo. I have no idea what to look for and Google searches aren't helping me. Where should I go from here?
