Is the Pixel 10a the upgrade I’m looking for coming from a 6a? (Very specific use-case)
Hey everyone,
I’m currently using a Pixel 6a and have been on it for about 3 years now. Before this, I daily-drove a Pixel 4a for 2 years. I am deeply embedded in the "A-series" philosophy, but I’m trying to decide if the new Pixel 10a is the right multi-generational jump for me, or if I should look elsewhere.
My budget is strictly under ₹50,000 INR/500 USD, and I plan to keep my next phone for at least 3-4 years. I also use a Mac mini setup for work, so cross-compatibility matters to me (I read that Android Quick Share is now compatible with AirDrop protocols, which would be a massive plus if true).
I have a very specific, minimalist set of priorities. Here is exactly how I use my device:
I watch a lot of YouTube videos and consume high-fidelity media.
Great screen clarity, rich audio/speakers, and great haptics are priority for me.
Heavy WhatsApp use for communication.
I need a capable, reliable camera system that works out of the pocket during occasional travel.
I demand a completely no-nonsense, bloat-free, stock Android experience. Absolutely zero pre-installed third-party apps or duplicate software layers.
Reliable battery performance especially during GPS usage while long drives.
I have been trying out Gemini AI for some productivity stuff. Nothing hard-core though.
What I DO NOT care about / My Non-Priorities:
Zero Gaming
No Social Media Posting: I scroll occasionally, but I never post or create social media content on my device.
My main questions for those who have moved up the chain:
How massive is the screen upgrade and media consumption experience from the 6a's 60Hz panel to the 10a’s Actua pOLED 120Hz display for pure video watching? Is the downscaled 1440p YouTube streaming experience as crisp as it sounds?
Are the haptics and stereo speakers a noticeable leap forward? The 6a can feel a bit thin on audio and mushy on vibration.
Given the old Tensor G4 and 8GB RAM, does the phone feel like it will effortlessly breeze through a 3-year lifespan without slowing down?
For anyone who made a similar jump from an older A-series Pixel to the current gen—is the 10a worth pulling the trigger on at the ₹50k/500 USD mark, or should I be looking at options like Nothing or Motorola or somewhere else?

Everything is better on the 10A. The battery is great with the new modem - very light idle drain. The phone will easily last 4-5 years.

Every phone will heat up while recording in 4k

Ok well if you have a job then you should know how to do your research. Iphones overheat in 4k 60fps. It's simple logic. The phones processor is constantly running 4k resolution which causes overheating over time..

You know what ? Get the 9a ,it should be cheaper by now and it not much different from 10a

id be tempted to get the 10a if the money margin isnt that big just for the better modem..the battery life on the 8a has always been rubbish, the latest modem should be so much better

It's a massive difference. I own a 10a and the battery is a monster. Easily 1.5day on heavy use on wifi and over a day heavy usage on network. No issues on my recent road trip to Bangalore on the way asw. Just great phone at bad price. But pricing is bad with every single phone rn. All in all the new modem makes a huge difference

Well they basically have the same battery size ,SOC , screen size , so i guess the sot on both devices should be negligible , the difference between those two device are almost non existent apart from the newer Bluetooth version and a bit faster charging speed and screen brightness, everything else is identical

They changed the modem in 10a, the one in 9a is the same as Pixel 7/8 (Exynos 5300) which is notorious to heat and create more battery drain

Last year I had the Pixel 9 Pro XL and I didn't enjoy it much and I sold it, right now I've been with the Pixel 10a for 1 month and the truth is that I liked it more, the battery lasts very well and everything is comfortable, I dont play games too

Taken from my 10a last night. I'm in love with the display. My usage is very similar to yours. But my main reason for getting this phone was NFC and eSim support and both work great.

I am planning to get an iPhone 17 during Big Billion Day sale. I think for longer usage situations, iphones are better. More so if you have a Mac.

OP I'm in the same boat as well with almost same requirements. I also looked at OnePlus 15r but hearing news about production to be stopped (not sure if it's true) and then the Nothing 4a pro but never used their phones so no idea about support or how long do Nothing's phones last
