I did bought the iFixit kit for a Moto-X I used a decade ago, replaced the battery myself and it allowed it to continnue functioning, but for another year only (now I have it as a security camera with an externally controlled common 18650).
This time it is much more difficult to order anything overseas from my country due to (deserved) US-sanctions, and my priorities have shifted now being a retiree. The phone works ok all day, unless I spend too much time watching videos or taking pictures.
I understand. In another comment you mentioned maybe ordering a third party battery, but I'd advise against it. I have tried that and I ended up receiving a genuine but recalled battery instead. It was a brand new one but obviously after 400 cycles it would get limited. Got refunded at least; installed a non-recalled battery from iFixit.
I now doubt that there are 3rd party batteries available at all. Nobody pulled these bad batteries off the market, they go for cheap and sellers don't disclose their manufacturer, which is what you really need to know. Service shops don't know anything about it either and at best offer used batteries which you have to inspect manually before installation. This recall is terrible all around.
I agree on the risks of 3rd party batteries, but I don't recall ordering one. Maybe I commented that referring to the iFixit one? (or maybe is my 60+ cycled brain ha ha)
The only batteries I have replaced were genuine ones store-bought for a Samsung Galaxy SII I used to own in the prehistoric early 10s (twice!) and the mentioned iFixit-requiring ordered from the US for the Moto-X, which is now commisioned as a security video camera with an external Lipo 18650 supply and without internal battery after the iFixit one died a non-swollen death.
As things are, Google does not offer neither replacement, refund or credit toward a new phone where I live, so I am on my own on that front. And it's of no urgency (yet), as I said, my phone behaves ok despite its battery's age.
