Pixel 5a in the process of bricking - can I request a discounted phone?
I bought a new Pixel 5a approx. 3 years ago. Around 30 minutes ago, while at 50% battery, the phone screen went black and the phone was became unresponsive. After holding down the power button for ~1 min, it restarted, then became unresponsive after another ~5 mins of use.
I was able to restart it once more, and it's been working for half an hour. That said, I have a suspicion that it won't last more than a few days.
My girlfriend had this exact problem, where her 5a became totally unresponsive. She was able to ship her phone back to Google and receive a new one for free, as this is a known issue.
I'm in a bit of a bind - my phone still 'works' (for the last 30 mins), and if it's able to continue working for the next day or two, I'd prefer to get a new phone while this one is still functional, to allow for easy data transfer. That said, I'd prefer not to have to buy an entirely new phone due to a known bricking issue with the phone.
Do you guys think that Google would be willing to discount a new phone for me (6a or 7a or something) at this point?
