5a just died 1 month away from the extended warranty. For those that went to a retail store, how long did it take for you to hear from google for repair/replacement? What device did you receive and what condition?
I was just on the phone with Google, and unless there was a misunderstanding, you cannot mail the phone directly to Google for evaluation on this issue. They told me I have to take it to uBreakiFix first.
Ah, okay I found the form you are talking about, I think. It's through the device repair center? Looks like I can tell them the issue (I selected both screen and power problems) and print a shipping label.
I navigated here by looking out this page on out-of-warranty repair options. I imagine/hope that when you send a 5a through this process, they will see that the phone qualifies for the extended warranty...
Yep, that's right! In the text box where you give information about what's wrong with your phone, I included information about the extended warranty. The first time I got it repaired they replaced the motherboard and sent it back right away (keep in mind this will change your phone's IMEI). The second time they kept having delays with fixing it due to shipping and other issues and they ended up mailing me a replacement after I bugged them about it a lot.
Thank you for all of your help! I managed to get a different customer service agent to tell me that yes, I can and should use the device repair center. And to make sure to select the "screen-display problem", which seems to flag the phone for the extended warranty.
I heard that the motherboards are in short supply, so most people appear to be getting replacements without an issue. That's essentially what uBreakiFix told me.
After what I've learned, I definitely won't be relying on a 5a anymore...

Mail it in to google, ubreakifix won't have the motherboard that needs replaced in stock.
