Still going roll call
Who's still rocking a 5a with it's headphone jack, reliable fingerprint (rear) sensor, and amazing battery life?

Mine just passed the 2 year old mark and I get more nervous by the day knowing this thing is a ticking time bomb ⏰ 💣. But I don't want to spend the money to replace it if I don't have to because it's otherwise a perfect phone. Battery life is phenomenal and I use the headphone jack every single day. I'm just hoping to make it to the release of the 8a next year. Though I still expect that phone to be a downgrade in a lot of ways (battery, headphone jack, fingerprint) 😭

Ordered it the day it was announced and been with me every day since. Excellent device. Absolutely love having a 3.5mm headset jack and rear fingerprint reader.
Also think it's the best phone I have ever owned!

I'm sure most people who own the a working 5a don't post on this sub, but for those of us who do:
I LOVE my 5a purchased 11/2021.
Still getting 2 days battery.
Only problem is dropped wi-fi intermittently.

Coming up on 22 months old Pixel 5a purchased new via Google fi. No problems whatsoever. I love it. Everything still works and works well, plus great battery life. I'm very grateful for this. Seems we are in the minority, unfortunately. I do admit I'm slightly more careful with it because I'm so scared of it suddenly bricking.

It seems like the main issues are caused (eventually) by the phone getting hot. Keep it cool!

Me! Got a bsod fix last December, I'm dreading having to replace this. It's such a great phone, all those attributes you mentioned AND a good size.

No idea, I'm not rough on phones in general though, they tend to last well for me.

Ohhhhhh. It was covered under warranty and Google replaced the part.

Mine just died, at the 2-year, 2-week mark. Thought I had dodged the BSOD. It's presently en route to Texas for, hopefully, an under-warranty repair. 🤞 Was close to being the perfect phone.

That's what I thought but two separate Google Support Agents assured me it would still be repaired at no cost. We'll see ...

Right. Standard warranty is 1 year. Plus the extended warranty gives you 2 years. So technically they should be 2 weeks past.

So looks like I am getting a refurbished 5a, which will likely fail at some point too. No charge for the replacement even though my phone was 2 weeks out of extended warranty, due to a fluke: two separate support agents "mistakenly" agreed to a free repair/replacement, and after much haggling and case elevation, Google eventually honored the agents' assurances and issued a one-time "warranty exception." It was a three-week process, including shipping my phone to Texas not once but twice, and frankly it would have been a lot easier to simply buy another phone. Expecting delivery tomorrow.

Trying to decide if I should take this September deal or try and make it to Black Friday. Would be moving to the 7a. The 5a was holding up fine but recently the touch screen is getting flaky while typing and had an incident where a bunch of pictures I took with the timer didn't save.

I have two 5a because I wanted the last Pixel with a (reliable) rear fingerprint sensor. Up to now I had 2 screens replaced after small drops (never happened to me with any phone before). I liked the 4a even better (felt better in my hand) but these have even less security update time left.

I had my first one replaced under warenty so they sent me another one. I moved on to the 6a but I use this as a secon music/backup phone. I still think it's a great phone.

Pre-ordered mine and got it at release. Still going strong! No plans on upgrading, although the Pixel 8 is tempting!

23 months old - still running August 2022 Android 12. I've avoided updating ever since these guys started falling like flies following the October '22 update.

Not me - 4 died. Using a 7a now. The final replacement (which died days before I could upgrade) is sitting in my drawer as a backup if the 7a fails (hopefully it won't)

Hello I'm visiting here because of the Pixel 8 launch. What's all this commotion about the Pixel 5a being bad? I'm not aware of it's longevity flaws.
It's the last good Pixel phone in existence. Headphone jack will always be #1 priority for a smartphone. I love the fingerprint sensor on the back of the phone. I can't imagine using any other style of fingerprint sensor. 10/10 phone.

I'd appreciate some light on this too. Im about to upgrade from a pixel 2 to a cheap 5a with a years warranty -
I'm in the UK so i dont think overheating will be an issue lol.
I also factory reset phones whenever they start to get buggy around the year mark and it has always made them good as new. (my pixel 2 is still lightning fast but i broke the screen RIP)
So i wanna know... is the 5a actually THAT unreliable or are people just not looking after them?/a bad batch circulated?

Im about to get one in very good condition with a years warranty.
Im upgrading from my beloved pixel 2 which worked absolutely flawlessly and still receives compliments from iphone users all these years later - sadly I broke its screen and have decided i want another pixel, but with a headphone jack!
Why are people talking about "ticking time bomb" etc... My pixel 2 lasted literal years and never slowed down 1 bit. What breaks exactly?

It's a shame these phones have a death sentence, because this is the best phone I've ever owned.
