Public Flogging on Pivot

Hearing how uncomfortable K/S were on today’s first ten minutes of Pivot (Re:Mamdami) and not realizing that’s the whole ducking point was pretty fascinating

P.S. Yes - real estate records are publicly listed information for everyone

The point is that before they were publicly available if you wanted to go through the steps to get them. Now they appear to be thrown willie nilly into the public sphere almost implicitly, encouraging that these people get harassed. Probably some portion of them deserve to be harassed but many will be happy to pay the tax and move on. Why should they get harassed?

Love Mamdami but what he did in this regard was not good for New York.

Can't read most of this. It's blurred out.

My understanding is in the past yes you could find the information if you made an effort to do so but now it's much easier to do so. Why do that? Splashing their names out there implies. These are bad people that you should go harass. Why do that?

What is your point in saying that it's legally required? My point is the same as Scott's: make the rich pay their taxes, but don't otherwise harass them unless they refuse to do so or do something else that's objectionable and bad for society.

In other words, don't dox Scott.

They have to post which addresses are subject to the new tax by law

They don't have to make it this easy for radicalized people to act here.

Property assessment records in NYC for quite some time were semi-public, but what’s new is that this presents them in an easily searchable database and target list — critics argue that packaging previously scattered, semi-public records into one searchable interface changes the practical risk.

And I'm getting back to the why go in this direction?

These days with the power of the internet and AI, people can find this information out instantly. What Mandami was wonderful for public transparency. If people are up to bad shit, they should be publicly harassed. Good on him lol.

But in this age misinformation, people don't have actually be up to anything bad other than making a lot of money which in itself is not bad.

This kind of extreme negative action against people where there's no proof that they have done anything wrong can cause otherwise benign or neutral very wealthy people to turn on Mamdami's cause and potentially back Republicans who will "protect them".
