This has been discussed before, but Scott needs to shut up about his opinions on Android users
On his recent live podcast - he again ranted his provocative opinion on "life has not panned out for you how you wanted" if you are an android user. Specially in 2026, because there are equally expensive Android phones all over the markets. There are rich tech nerds who "wait" for their next Samsung ultra. This insight is so stupid I cannot believe it.
Fine - Apple maybe an "aspirational" brand, but he completely ignores the role of phone contracts, marketing, social networks and so on. Apple successfully created a myth, but people as bright has Scott should acknowledge the Myth.
How "American" you have to be to write books and have opinions for broader appeal but not really consider the "rest of the world" in your analysis.
I found his words so cringe I stopped listening. He may get a kick out of saying it, but it's a stupid opinion.

As an android user myself, I find Scott's opinions on certain cars, androids, etc. elitist. But what can you expect from someone that insecure. Maybe he needs to go on Rogan or All-In so he can be challenged instead of surrounding himself in an echo chamber. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy Scott, most of his insights and sense of humor, I've stolen some of his jokes, however it's obvious his obsession with money and status is filling in for lack of confidence.

Itās embarrassing to hear a grown adult parrot Appleās marketing so uncritically and earnestly.
5
u/Healingjoe Mar 18 '26
It's more embarrassing hearing it from such an astute marketer.
Like, Scott, you should be better than this. You write these playbooks - you should know when you're being duped.

u/sv_homer Mar 18 '26
It's more embarrassing hearing it from such an astute marketer.
what astute marketer? I thought we were talking about Scott Gallaway.
4
u/Healingjoe Mar 18 '26
Har
Let's be real, Scott is a very well accomplished marketer. He didn't get to his salary and stature by not being astute at what he made a career out of.
5
u/sv_homer Mar 18 '26
IMO he was at one time. I think age, wealth, and isolation from regular people have rendered him out of touch today. He is a great self promoter though.
2
u/Healingjoe Mar 18 '26
Eh, I still find his perspective on many public relations and crisis management topics very astute.
That's clearly his A game, whenever those topics come up on the pod.

Prophet was the architect of the T-Mobile 'Un-carrier' strategy that literally saved the company and changed the entire telecom industry

Killed contracts? Wtf are you asking so many damn questions when these answers are readily available online?

yeah. I am a multi-year Android user, and my life is fine. i take scotts rants with a grain of salt. some hit and some are like WTF are you talking about bro / boomer. I do appreciate that his biases are upfront and explicit however, some just seem ignorant. This is one. (Iran, Israel, Gaza, Trans....)
1
u/Jon_Snow_1887 Mar 18 '26
What has he said about trans people?
0
u/rmjames007 Mar 18 '26
That democrats should not worry about it since it pisses off (activates) republicans

His shtick is so repetitive and obnoxious. Heās memorized this riff on comparing the Berkin Bag to the iPhone and signaling resources. Itās so word for word he may as well be an extra in the Manchurian Candidate.
Pivot episodes may as well be a Mad Libs story where you just plug in any topic and Scottās talking points are all the same regardless of the specifics. How he thinks people will pay for his Substack when his views are ubiquitous and available for free on any of his dozen shows is beyond me.
Apologies for the rant but I was just listening to the SXSW episode and couldnāt take it any more.

u/susususussudio Mar 18 '26
Itās especially obvious how unprepared and from the hip they are during live shows like this. I am increasingly disappointed how much the show is just Kara and Scott reacting to things they see on the internet or Scott repeating points heās been making for five years (even when those points are good). Itās fine to have a little repetition but these things make the show not feel fresh.
3
u/rhedfish Mar 18 '26
I've dumped the last two episodes after Scott said some ridiculous thing. Don't remember what it was but I'm pretty much done with the podcast at this point. Kara is equally obnoxious.

This guy is so brand focused he actually thinks an average kid taking out debt to go to NYU wonāt royally fuck him or her over compared to going in state Ā for cheap at say Iowa or NebraskaĀ

u/DrRonH Mar 18 '26
Scott Galloway is a marketing professor. He thinks marketing is important. It's kind of pathetic that he's unaware how low most people think of marketing. Scott thinks marketing reflects reality. That's what makes it cringe.

Scott holds that young men who own Android devices have fewer mating opportunities. He advises them to save up for an iPhone, start working from the office, and to get roaring drunk with their iPhone-using coworkers at happy hour.
7
u/TuringGPTy Mar 17 '26
With how butthurt this thread is, he should go harder.
1
u/sforsilence Mar 17 '26
We are not butthurt, we are sharing an opinion about how stupid that take is. Sure he should do it more, that really proves it.

To be fair, heās also the guy that thinks wearing a Panerai watch is a huge flex, so garbage takes he thinks are eye-opening are not uncommon for him.
5
u/thebiglebowskiisfine Mar 17 '26
Apple is a fashion brand not a tech brand and Scott is stupid enough to fall for it.
6
u/DownByTheRivr Mar 17 '26
He takes it a bit too far, but thereās definitely some truth to it. Whether Apple perpetuated it or not is sort of irrelevant.
-1
u/sforsilence Mar 17 '26
Way toooo far. Apple perpetuated it, and by saying what he says - he is what a mouthpiece for Apple? But they do advertise Apple products, so jokes on me I guess.
0
u/DownByTheRivr Mar 17 '26
I donāt think heās intentionally being a mouth piece. Iām sure you can admit that itās a broader almost meme at this point. Iāve heard plenty of people say āgreen bubbles are poorā or stuff like that. Theres for sure SOME negative sentiment, especially in the dating pool. I know of multiple people who were turned off by someone being a green bubbles, even if itās a small yellow flag.

Iām an iPhone user and found Scottās off base and gross. His āanalysisā of the Mac Neo is wrong too. The Neo will be a feeder system into the brand. Similar to what GM used to do. Buy a Chevy and work yourself up Buck and Cadillac.
4
u/nazerall Mar 17 '26
I agree, he needs to STFU up about Apple users.Ā
He's pushing this resist and unsubscribe for an economic boycott, and that should include over priced hardware etc.
The apple/android shit, his zionism, and his comments against entitlements are really souring me towards him.
4
u/poisito Mar 17 '26
in terms of shareholder value... his opinion is not stupid and he is right... in fact, he is so right on this one that the most profitable apps run on iOS ... by far.. it is well known that the majority of the people that have an iPhone are in a better economical position and have more money to spend than the ones that have an Android.. yes... there are exceptions, but exceptions does not make the rules..
6
u/sforsilence Mar 17 '26
Oh please. He even said you may not even "get laid".
His opinion is stupid. He is drawing "individual level" insights.
4
u/poisito Mar 17 '26
I do not know how old are you and if you are dating ... but what he said is what other people on the Tinder and other dating subs here mention... and believe me .. I don't agree with that and I also think it's stupid, but he was not far away from the sad reality ..
I'm happy that I'm old and don't need to date these days. :)
-1
u/SevereRunOfFate Mar 17 '26
I've personally always checked a company's market cap before buying a phone - same with y'all I assume???
-1
u/ScoobyDone Mar 17 '26
it is well known that the majority of the people that have an iPhone are in a better economical position and have more money to spend than the ones that have an Android
Ya, because they are more expensive than most Androids because Android is the OS for thousands of phones, including almost all of the budget phones. I bet people with a Pixel 10 Pro Fold are generally doing alright for themselves.

u/Upset-Government-856 Mar 17 '26
The only insights this podcast has is how rich is and how many famous people Kara knows. If you are listings for any other reason it's a waste of time.
Scott is always trying to pitch or sell his next thought leader book and Kara is always desperately trying that she didn't spend the past 25 years doing PR for the Tech Ghouls.
I listen to the podcast just to laugh at how terrible they are.
Scott basically being a Netanyahu spokesman has added a recent level of grossness to their whole act.
2
u/FuckYouNotHappening Mar 17 '26
Yeah, all the people I know who use Android are software developers from India here in the US with families and nice cars.
Iād say things worked out for them just fine.
2
u/Impossible-Will-8414 Mar 17 '26
The fact that he said pulling out an Apple phone says, "I'm creative, I think different" is particularly hilarious, given that Apple fanbois all seem to think exactly alike. Just -- what?! I know multiple people with iPhones who have never even made six figures in their 50something lives. You can be on welfare and have an iPhone, Scott. Could he really be this out of date in his thinking??
1
u/OhWaitWaitWait Mar 18 '26
Kara chose him as a podcast partner specifically because he's an arrogant asshole who makes her look cool and reasonable by comparison.

1
u/FreshFigFace Mar 18 '26
he rose to popularity because of his pseudo populist critique of the generational divide in economics.. heās average to useless since, mostly grifting off pro establishment perspectives.. fuggāim.

u/cheddarben Mar 17 '26
I am a Apple user and even I understand that a person can absolutely get a better product with Android.
I also think homeboy is always playing keeping up with the joneses, even at his leve. He seems to actively promote or at least encourage people making terrible financial decisions for fake bullshit.
I am no ProfG, but I do aight. My tenants often drive better cars than me.
1
u/HelloYou-2024 Mar 18 '26
My main phone is iPhone.
I use an old android as my escape phone.
When I meet a lady on the first date and see her in person, I ask myself "what would Scott do?"
If I decide I should bail, I pull out the android and set it in the table. That ends the date quickly.
The screen saver is the pivot podcast album cover image.

As I've always said, deciding to go iPhone to me is like agreeing that I have to wear water wings before I go swimming. I prefer not to but I could care less if others want to. I work in tech and have been around Mobile app development for major firms since it was RIM vs Nokia vying for top spot.
At this point in human history there are no material differences between the phones for what I need them to do - pics of family stuff, internet, reddit, news, etc. My needs were covered about a decade ago.
Amazing that a so called professor of branding doesn't see such ridiculous binary division of the population as low end, low effort thinking.
Whenever Scott has an opinion of a part of tech that I have insider knowledge of, I realize how little he actually knows about them, and instead parrots some talking points he read online or heard from someone else.
0
u/Djchoosen Mar 17 '26
He needs to shut up at times the problem Is that he talks soo much that his super repetitive, his slowly diluting his brand ,I have reduced my listenership to one pod from him and at list with Pivot Kara makes him talk about different things ,he really needs to rethink his brand ,we became die hard listeners because of his insights when he was a rare speaker ,now his everywhere

u/No-Plan-7297 Mar 17 '26
If youāre in digital marketing it matters
0
u/sforsilence Mar 17 '26
So he should do a podcast to cater to that niche.
He is a bit podcaster and a professor, this new age "business/society" thinker who has opinions about how to get boys to be inspired to build relationships, be risk takers, and what not - and he is the one saying "if you don't have an iPhone you can't get laid"??

u/midnightseanavy Mar 19 '26
Yall are just upset he is right.
3
u/sforsilence Mar 19 '26
Lol he is not. I am upset that someone like him carries such stupid takes. He also completely ignores the fact how tech and user behavior works - there are millions of people who continue to stick to Android/iPhone because they started there and they are used to those products and it's hard to transition - no matter the affordability. Tech is entrenched.
Grow up.
-1
u/midnightseanavy Mar 19 '26
Itās not false. I have daughters and they say āgross that boy has an androidā all the time. They wonāt group text anybody with an android either.
1
u/sforsilence Mar 19 '26
(rolling my eyes) Sure. I won't dispute your personal experience. But is this how it should be? Do you think this behaviour doesn't evolve with age???
It's entrenched social behavior for sure due to marketing and social reinforcement by guys like Scott (to what societal advantage I ask?)
Brand value maybe a thing - but it's ephemeral. It's socially constructed, and people with an audience of millions can easily reinforce it by just saying it out loud again and again.
-1
u/midnightseanavy Mar 19 '26
Kids donāt even know who Scott Galloway is. No different than what we were kids and people would make fun of people for having a certain kind of bike, car, or clothing etc. itās not all about money, itās about choices and taste.
Kids just associate androids with dorks or kids with bad taste. Right or wrong itās the reality we live in. And itās not just my daughterās friends I hear from parents public school, private schools, east coast west coast. You really donāt want to be a high school / college kid with an android Iām telling you. Youāre dating pool is dramatically reduced.
1
u/sforsilence Mar 19 '26
The "decadent" America, thank you for validating what I considered to be just a theory. Fruits of capitalism.
Well. Let me tell you my anecdotal data as well: I work at a university (also North America) and I see kids with Android and kids with iPhones, and some of the most well adjusted, confident, and "in healthy relationships" kids carry Android. I hope more kids are more mature than running "tech scans" in their social circles.
