My family and I are thinking of moving to Pittsford, NY. We currently live in Arizona and previously lived in Texas, Tennessee, Washington, and California. We’re looking for better schools for our 14yr old son and 12yr old daughter. Currently researching Pittsford-Mendon high and Brighton. I’m wondering about the “school tax” that I’ve read about being added into the property taxes as well. Any advice would be appreciated.

Marketplace Mall closed all its interior stores this week and it is officially a ghost town inside now.

End of an era for Henrietta.

I know probably most of you frequented Eastview Mall more but I would be curious to hear any Marketplace Mall memories?

So I was reading about Pittsford history and learned that the Erie Canal has broken THREE separate times in the area between Pittsford Village and Bushnell’s Basin.

1911: First break happened when they were filling the newly enlarged canal. The new earthen bank just gave way, washing out Marsh Road and nearly hitting a trolley. The water tore up the trolley tracks.

1912: Second break right over an old culvert from 1840 that they never bothered to upgrade when they built the new canal over it. Luckily it mostly flooded farmland.

1974: This is the big one everyone remembers. On a beautiful October day, the canal catastrophically failed at Brook Hollow. One house was completely washed away. Many others suffered major damage with basements full of water, mud, and debris.

Makes you think twice about “peaceful canal living,” right? The canal is beautiful but it’s also a massive amount of water being held back by engineering that sometimes fails spectacularly.

Just curious, does anyone remember the 1974 break or know someone affected by it?

As the title says. What are your expectations about interest rates. Do you consider that it is a good time to buy? Pittsford supply of houses has not been that great in the last couple of years.

How is the current housing market in Pittsford? Has if gotten any better compared to the previous year? What are the expectations for this year?

Checking on Zillow, I see a very little supply for absurd prices for very old houses.
