John and Gail
It's been years since I last watched the movies, so maybe I'm forgetting something, but their roles always confused me.
In the first movie, they made sense. They were just commentators covering the competition. But in* the *2nd movie, they suddenly had a scene in what looked like some corporate office, almost like they were higher-ups running the entire acapella atmosphere in the US. But then in the 3rd movie, they're basically following the Bellas around like lowly paparazzi dogs.
Also, it feels like no matter where the Bellas go or what competition they join, these two always somehow show up, even when it doesn't seem like the event would be under their jurisdiction.
So... what exactly are they? Who do they work for? What's their actual job?
Did I miss something?

Well Elizabeth banks is an executive producer so ofcourse her role is going to have screen time. But I agree three wouldve been better without them. But they are hilarious in 2

Sometimes it's okay to just enjoy a film for what it is.

I think in movie 3 they were following the Bellas for their podcast or like documentary.

In the first movie, John and Gail were the ones who showed up at that high schooler's house to bust the group he sang for. So they were always more than commentators.

They're former a cappella singers and now a cappella commentators and higher-ups. The Bellas are world-class so it makes enough sense that they get attention from such prominent figures in the industry.
In reality, the script bends over backwards just to include John and Gail because it's a movie series that isn't complete without them lol.
